The wheel has 1080 degrees of movement, which is pretty close to most street going real cars. Most formula cars use less rotation, and some games will limit rotation, and provide a soft stop for when it matches the simulated cars actual rotation limit.
The wheel is 300mm in diameter, which is just slightly larger than most sim wheels, but a few inches less than most street car wheel sizes. It is in the range of wheel sizes used for sports car/formula racing wheels though (on the smaller side for a sports car, and on the larger sized compared to a formula car).
ok so its the real deal one then,
This is the direct drive wheel from Logitech, not the gear driven notchy ones. Much higher fidelity and torque.
Cheaper from EM if there's at least $150 cashback
This steering wheel cost more than my 1st car
Yep
Actually, why are these things so expensive? Difficult to build, low sales numbers, targeted at luxury end, or ???
It uses a dIrect drive motor, which at the low end are around $250 cost, and at the high end, well north of 1k.
And it is the Nm of the motor, which generally decides how they are priced.
The highest end direct drive wheels can put out 40Nm (the equivalent of a real life indycar which doesn't have power steering), while low end DD wheels are around 5Nm.
This one has 11Nm, so it's classed as a mid range DD wheel.
For reference a G920 puts out around 1Nm, with its gear driven tech, and belt drive wheels do about 2-3Nm.
The price of this wheel also makes it a niche product specifically for 'sim racing' enthusiasts, rather than just 'racing game' enthusiasts. Think iracing versus gran turismo.
And while G920 is fine for gran turismo, and can be used very effectively in iracing, a DD wheel in iracing will have much more fidelity, and provide much better ffb, allowing you to drive the car just a touch more consistently, and maybe shave off a tenth of laptime.
So whether you're in the top 1% of sim racers, or you just love sim racing, DD wheels were (when they were released), the next evolution in sim racing, and so for ppl that spend 500-1000 hours sim racing a year, spending 1k on a wheel is very good bang for buck.
btw, the next evolution of pedals just came along about a year ago. $4000 for 1 direct drive pedal… (which most people just buy 1 as a brake). Yes, it is my next upgrade, lol. As I am quite sick and tired of crappy pedals that start spiking/going out of calibration (currently G29 pedals with major mods, and previously Fanatec CSP2's).

is this the one that has the full range of steering and also the exact side of a real cars steering wheel?
