  • Shame no e-MTBs in the 2 to 3k range

    • +2

      Hi @Murpha
If you happen to find a brand new eMTB in that price range, please double-check the specs.
It costs more than that to make one.

Reid has some, but I wouldn't take one on the kind of trails I ride.

      • Looking for something more suitable for XC for use on fire/logging tracks, rail trails, and occasionally something a bit rougher, not a full boar downhill mountain bike. Merida eBig.NINE 300 SE had decent specs for this use and was often found around $3k. Many of the Reid cycles would be similarly suitable.

  • Whats the best value mountain bike for a 9 year old for riding around the streets and parks?

      Hi @noise36
From BikesOnline, I'd suggest one of the Polygoin Premiers
      - Polygon Premier 24 XC @ $419
      - Polygon Premier 24 Ultralight @ $369
      - Marin Coast Trail 24 @ $449
      https://bikesonline.com.au/collections/bike-kids-ages-7-12

Reid Cycles also has a good selection of kids bikes in a variety of colours
      https://www.reidcycles.com.au/collections/24-inch-kids-bikes

      • Any chance of price matching shipping? Reid cycles are charging $35.54 for shipping a 24" kids bike, helmet and toolkit. Where as BikesOnline are charging $189 for just the 24" bike.

        • But we're in Tas, so that's gotta be part of it.

Locally, it's either Kmart rubbish or nearly a grand from LBS. Where's the middle ground?

          • @Speckled Jim: Yeah it's a bit hard. Reid seem to be able to do shipping for $35. BikesOnline is nowhere near that.

        • $108 to Perth Metro as well, ouch!

      • How was the Marin a $699 RRP bike with no front shock or disc brakes? Hesitant to buy a bike without disc brakes these days.

        • +1

I do prefer disc brakes myself, but just for a casual kids bike its an extra cost that probably isn't worth it.
If your kid is really getting into cycling, then I'd get disc brakes without any hesitation, they will feel more confident riding more technical trails and it will help their progression.

  • How does this compare to the Siskiu T8 that you also posted?

    • Quick answer: This is more of an XC bike, while the T8 is a Trail bike.

      Superior XF 929 TR
      - lighter, very slightly less front travel, better shocks and other components

      Polygon Siskiu T8
      - An ultimate mean machine for the price.
It's a bike you just can't go wrong with for that price point - and it's at the lowest price ever for $2499

I'd reach out to the Sales and Support team, they would be the best to help you work through all the options, pro's and cons for your riding style. They are very helpful and are not he type to force you into a sale.

      • Thanks for that. Was just after general advice for now, i understand it would differ depending on requirements. Sounds like the T8 is a better buy though "generally".
