Note: The Black Friday Bundle (with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe) hasn't been discounted yet, so might be worth waiting a few days.

Also note that Switch 2 will most likely be released next year.

  • +1

Nearly half a grand on a console with only a few months left in its lifespan. Wild.

    • +1

You understand the Switch 1 won't just go up in smoke the second the Switch 2 releases, right?

      • +13

You understand the Switch 2 has been confirmed to be backwards compatible, right?

So there's basically no reason not to hold off and:
        1) Find out the pricing of the Switch 2 and possibly pay a bit more and have access to the Switch 1 and 2 library.
        or
        2) Wait for the Switch 1 to be on clearance.

        • +2

Yeah, backwards compatibility should be a massive indicator to anyone that buying a switch right now is pointless if you can wait.

        • +4

Try telling that to an eight-year-old who has been waiting for a switch at Christmas for six months

    • +1

this. bundle or not it's too much to pay for a 7yo tech

I mean I bought Hyrule Edition Lite a week ago for $259 and I think that's fine, came with 12m of online and expansion pack. not that it matters much since I have plenty games

      guilty as charged

but I think lite is great deal at that price for what it provides (awesome portable gaming on the go), while full size switch is a bad buy RN even at this price, IMO

if S1 OLED drops below $300 when S2 is released I might pick one up 😁

    • Wild

      Yup

Take a breath of the Wild…
Let’s all not all cry tears of the kingdom either.

    • +1

Don't look at 3DS prices then. $600 new from Japan or $300-400 used.

      • It's really insane how high the 3DS prices have spiked.
I guess retro gaming is coming in strong.

  • +2

Honestly, if you need to buy one as Christmas gift, price is not bad. If you can hold, just hold for a while.

    • -3

No one needs to buy one as a Christmas gift.

      • +8

What if kids want one. And you tell them just wait for next year, get you a switch 2. Do you think they care about that? Do you want to ruin their Christmas .That's when you NEED to buy one for THIS Christmas.

        • -2

Learning… 1) you don't always get what you want… 2) patience… 3) the value of money… are very important traits to develop.

Explain to the child that there's a new console coming out soon. We need to wait until your Birthday as there maybe a better deal by then.

This how you don't end up with a generation of self entitled turds who can't manage their finances

          • +7

@PainToad: Lol, for a switch, that's not how you deal with your kids. Don't make it looks like you are going to buy a Ferrari as gift. Every family has different situations, there is no solution for all. You need to learn that too.

            • -4

              @ce5himm:

that's not how you deal with your kids

And that's exactly what's wrong with millennial parents.

Scary to think how usless the Gen Alpha are going to be at managing money.

              • @PainToad: You know people with higher net worth exist that thinking about saving 200 bucks is not worth it?

Like if I just want to buy a $1 apple today I'll just buy it even if you tell me it's gonna be 50% off tomorrow.

                • -2

                  @dodoli:

You know people with higher net worth exist that thinking about saving 200 bucks is not worth it?

No matter how much money I have, I will still value money and will do everything I can to pass that on to my childreen.

Wasting money simply to play video games a few months earlier (after already waiting years at this point) is financially irresponsible and not a trait I would want to bestow upon my child.

Also, your financial position is no guarantee they'll end up being in the same financial position, so it's import they don't see $200 as nothing (unless you plan on rasing kids who are going to leech off trust funds for life).

Like if I just want to buy a $1 apple today I'll just buy it even if you tell me it's gonna be 50% off tomorrow.

The fact you equate buying a video game console to essentials like food is crazy.

                • +1

@dodoli: But almost all things are cheaper in the future… fact is this is a good saving on a switch. My parents might get me an Atari 2600+ on sale for $110 ….. only waited 45 years for it lol

              • +2

@PainToad: lol, pretending that previous generations didnt buy shit for their kids to shut them up, as if they were perfect parents, sure.

Least millenials aren't hitting their kids

          • -1

@PainToad: Learning experience: don’t buy kids any Xmas presents….result a disastrous holiday season. Important skill to learn is to avoid unecessary conflicts which cost a lot more in stress and damage…

        • +1

Yep. I have one at home waiting patiently to finally get to play Mario Kart (pity this is not the right bundle) on her own console this summer break and she doesn't really care what switch 2 will bring. (we are very strict on video gaming anyway).

      • +1

Some parents NEED to get kids presents or it’s bedlam. Sure they could not do it but at a massive cost. You don’t need to eat for a week…but at a cost. There are needs and wants.

      • I do, I hyped my nephew up already for it so I need to get one or im bad uncle.

Thanks to uncle Don for paying for it from my bet winnings this month i dont really care how much it costs i just wanna get a good deal

        • +1

dont really care how much it costs i just wanna get a good deal

So bipolar of a sentence haha

I’ve been in this ‘uncle’ situation as well
Maybe hyped them up for switch 2 and get them a cheap used switch lite in the interim?

  • HODL for switch 2

  • Didn't switch get a very recent price drop?

  • +4

$360 with eBay plus in 2 days time

    • Any chance it won't all be snapped up within like 30sec like the other ebay limited deals?

      • Doubtful only 400 available

      • 5000 views on that product page in the last 24 hours. I'll do my part and I'm not even gonna try.

  • Part of me wants the switch 2 to suffer initially (so Nintendo can stop with the BS pricing they had this generation, and to innovate more)

If the switch 2 is incremental in graphical jump and in form factor (plus released with a stupid asking price and or name + uncompelling lineup of games) I think that would be enough of a big mistake and would be a cause for concern.

Nintendo has sucked and been there before - before turning things around. Remember the ambulance on fire that was the Wii U? loved it though.

    • +1

Eb games will have a decent trade in deal for old switches. My tip is buy a switch in the sales and enjoy over Xmas. There’s always something new coming out next year etc.

  • I dont think I can wait 2 days for the $360 deal. Gonna buy one now.

    • Those eBay deals get snapped up in 2 mins with ozbargainers whining they couldn’t pay for their cart etc etc. happens every year..

  • +2

Switch 1 = "easily" modded with free games
Switch 2 = coming soon-ish but who knows how long it will take to crack it

At this price if you plan on modding it, I would say it's a great price.

Otherwise go RP5 or Odin 2

    • RP5 worth it if one has a SD for emulation you reckon?

      • Sure, Better form factor if you want to carry it but won't play switch games very well.

        • You have an RP5?

          • @YoursTruly: No I'm just an enthusiast and watch a lot of retrogamecorps video https://youtube.com/@retrogamecorps

I prefer the odin 2 portal but it's more expensive and not as portable. Though you already have the SD so for you form factor should be important.

    • is it easily moddable though? I thought the soldering job required was on the difficult end

      • It is but with a bit of patience I don't see why we couldn't do it. Otherwise check Facebook for someone around you who cna do it for cheap. The mod costs perhaps $15.
