TomTom Australia GPS App for iOS - $59.95

140

Special @ $59.95

Usually it's $74.95 and they will only go on sale for a week or so at this price.

Sorry for the lack if info since I'm posting this with my phone, will re-edit this with more info when I get back.

If you we're to couple this with the half price iTunes gift card from Harvey Norman it'll only cost you $30 real dollars for the app which is a steal! Good value for money and the best turn by turn GPS app I've used.

Effectively $29.98 if you use iTunes cards from the HN promotion

Google maps is back on iTunes! and its even better and faster than before!

True - but the 'advantage' of applications like TomTom, is that the maps are available for you off line, so you can use them in areas without a mobile (data) signal - and you get route planning/navigation on the device.

Google Maps on iPhone doesn't permit you to download the maps - Google Maps for Android does (in many countries). Neither Android nor iPhone implementations support route planning/navigation without a data signal.

Metroview Australia is always cheaper($13.99) and better

Each to their own, I've tried MapView and still prefer TomTom for the better interface and user experience.

    • "CityMaps2Go" is available for offline (maps need to be downloaded prior using it, all maps are free). Not sure if it's still FREE or 99c now. So handy when you're in the outback without reception (it shows dirt/gravel roads).

  • isnt apple maps any way using TomTom maps? also ur possibly better off using Google maps with free turn by turn navigation

  • Interesting timing of iTunes putting TomTom on special in the same week as it reintroduces Google Maps.
On the other hand, if you picked up a Nokia N9 for $99 at DSE 2 weeks ago (thanks to OzBargain) you know which phone has the best turn-by-turn navigation. Apple should just licence Nokia Maps and be done with it.

  • I prefer SYGIC on iphone, seems to be fastest..

  • Nokia maps is already on the iphone and it's free.

    It's kinda crap in IMO.

    • Nokia Here is so bad it's even worse than Ovimaps. Ovi maps for symbian is better than any offline maps for any smart phone I have tried and I have tried tomtom, sygic and navigon. I wish there was a way people can use Nokia drive other than buying a WP Lumia.

  • still rather get an actual gps for gps purposes rather than drain battery on a multi purpose device, same cost also

I've never got the battery argument. Regardless of whether you use a phone or a dedicated unit, you have the option of plugging them into a power source.

  • I have tried Metroview, Navigon, TomTom, Nokia and Google maps, and WAZE FOR IPHONE IS THE BEST TURN-BY-TURN APP BY AN ABSOLUTE MILE! Crowd-shared traffic you must try it! Plus it's free.

      Is waze using offline maps?

Anyway, i don't think it can beat tomtom or google maps.
      From waze's comments:
      "Useless in Adelaide
      by Matt Tyley
Many roads and sometimes whole suburbs are missing or incorrect. Nice graphics though."

lol 1 comment from some random person isn't much to go on.

and youre not one comment from some random person ?

        • i have used Tomtom in Australia, Europe(5 different countries) and USA and i never had a problem with the maps!If waze(you can try it and report back to us) doesn't have detailed maps for Adelaide, then it doesn't sound that good, especially for an online-map solution.
It's a plus that waze is free but if i'm somewhere and i have 3g coverage i wouldn't change my free google maps for anything else(yet)

        • Waze is fabulous for using in the city where 3G isn't a problem and traffic is a problem. The crowd-sourced traffic data is better than every other program i've tried.

        • I just played around with it for abit- one thing I don't like is that you cannot input the house/unit number other than that this app is pretty cool = (

It's a good deal if you still want TomTom on your iPhone. Compared to the competition now however, harder to say. Very happy with my MetroView as a back-up to Apple Maps and Google Maps. At least from A to B. TomTom may have more features like trip planning etc. For $30 (or under $8 for MetroView), it's not a bad deal.

  • tomtom is good, but last month, TOMTOM take me to a place far away from my destination. waste my 40 mins.

    • LOL! Happened on Sygic app for me too! Just around the corner but it took me to a dead end behind my destination LOL

  • So sygic or Tom Tom is better?

  • Tom Tom maps are horridly out of date and rarely updated with any accuracy.
