Why? What are people using this for?

    • +1

Excellent question! I have no idea honestly, one of my mates uses Metal for the crypto benefits, but I have no idea what the gains are

    • +3

I have the free version purely to have the disposable virtual cards for buying online subscription stuff.
Although I actually haven't used it in quite awhile so….

      • You can also add a <18 card with customisable design for 1 kid.
Obviously, if you need more than 1 card you'll need the metal plan…

      • +2

disposable virtual cards for buying online subscription stuff

Revolut now disallows use of disposable (one-time use) cards for subscriptions.
You will need to create a multi-use virtual card.

I use the free version and dont feel to be limited in any way….

    • Same, although for thr first time I got "stuck" when I exceeded the weekly top-up limit… but yeah, free is perfect normally

  • Have this and it’s great!

    • Nice! Do you use it for crypto?

      • +2

Nah, spread is better on Coinbase Advanced. I get the value from the included subscriptions + overseas transactions and US stock trading.

    • +2

I’ve had the free version since signing up and can’t see any differences?

Mind you I haven’t looked into it but comments above are similar.

Go to reddit and just search Revolut - you’ll find heaps and heaps of complaints. Nothing good IMO

    • +1

I’ve had my account in review, I provided bank statements and access was restored without any issues.

    • +1

Well i love mine. I use it mainly to lock in good exchange rate before i go on overseas holiday.

    • +5

Go to Reddit and search Commonwealth Bank (or Westpac or …) , heaps of complaints, so many they had a royal commission. Go to Reddit and search for Coles or Woolworths, heaps of complaints, so many they have had Senate and ASIC enquiries.

      And on and on.

    • +2

I've been using Revolut for years without any issues. They probably offer the best exchange rates, and the ability to withdraw cash for free from overseas ATMs is extremely convenient in a pinch.

    • Really? I love mine and have recommended it to several friends. The multiple credit card thing is incredibly useful for online purchases and travel. Or really anytime you want to segregate some purchases from others

  • I used Revolut over the course of a few years quite extensively as their exchange rate was almost identical to the wholesale mid market rate. Over the years the rates have become worse to the point that it’s better to just use wise or your up card.

    • +3

They have better rates than Wise/Up.

      • Are you sure? I used to rely on Revolut for foreign currency exchange but last time I checked Wise fees were generally lower so I switched.

        • I just checked and they’re cheaper in comparison (spread), I do have the Metal plan however so I’m being charged no fees.

          • @WoodYouLikeSomeCash:

I do have the Metal plan however so I’m being charged no fees.

Aside from the plan fees of course?

That said I buy US shares and while the ACH transfer to my US broker is fee free, the forex fees charged by Wise are not

            • @ruprectaus: Can you please explain it in detail?
I am interested in doing this.

              Thanks

            • @ruprectaus: Yes but I well and truly get the plan fees back after considering the unlimited fee free forex (during the week) plus subscriptions (sleep cycle) and native US stock trading.

              • @WoodYouLikeSomeCash: Which is fair enough if you do that much . I transfer maybe once a month at most. I would have given the Metal plan a go but alas its not available to me at that price.

                • @ruprectaus: I got it at the $225 price a few months ago. I still find it’s incredible value so it’s still worth running the numbers on depending on your circumstances.

You also get some other benefits

    Included

    Financial Times Standard Digital
WeWork: 1 free desk pass pm
    ClassPass: 10 credits /m
    NordVPN Plus
    Freeletics Coach subscriptions
    Sleep Cycle Premium
    Tinder Gold subscription
    Picsart Pro subscription
    The Athletic Subscription
    MasterClass Limited Membership

If you or your girlfriend does Pilates classpass might be worth it, the 7 credit plan is $19 by itself but this would be $10.4

You also have the opportunity to possibly make back your monthly fee in cashback but would probably be too much work.

      Tinder Gold subscription

      Subscribed

      • +4

I was going to say if you don't have a girlfriend that does Pilates then you have tinder gold

    • The 1% cashback on foreign transactions is handy too.

      • *UpTo your monthly fee

        • +2

Which is $24.99 meaning you can easily get $299.88 back annually.

    • +1

Isn't Tinder gold way more than $125 a year

      • +3

I tried looking it up but seems like you need to be logged into a tinder account to see pricing.

  • Did it used to provide lounge access?

    • Still available, it is discounted lounge access.

      • Can you check how much the discount is please?

        • +3

Is there a particular lounge you're interested in? If you already have an account, you can check out the cost in the app. Go to the lifestyle page from the icon on the bottom right, open the lounges page, and search for a lounge.

It'll let you buy an entry, and display the premium / metal price below. e.g. Changi lounge is $52 normally, and $37 with premium / metal. Not sure if all of them are the same price.

    • +1

I upgraded from free to premium last year for the lounge access. Paid a $10 monthly then got two passes for $37 each I think. Sat in the lounge with a meal and some drinks, a nice fruit and yoghurt, a few more drinks and then off to the plane. No brainer.

  • So how to get the metal plan ? Its asking for $24.99 a month Teh "premium" plan is offered at $9.99 a month (via the app on Android from the link shown on their site)

  • This promotion is for existing users only afaik

    https://www.revolut.com/en-AU/legal/black-friday-metal-promo…

    • An “Existing Eligible Customer” is defined as a customer that has, during the Existing Customer Promotion Period:

personally received communications from Revolut inviting you to participate in the Promotion (for example, through an email or push notification in the Revolut app); an active Standard or Premium account (not suspended or restricted), and
upgrades to a Revolut Metal subscription using the Discount Offer which is visible to them within the Revolut app.

Alas, I can only see the "Premium" one for $9.99 a month in my account

  • So let me get this right.. I can pay $125 per year.. to withdraw $1400 monthly of my own money and they won't fee me for it?

    Where do I sign up!

    • +1

It's meant to say fee-free ATM withdrawals

  • I just hate that they operate on UK time and have no local phone support. If something goes wrong, you have to chat with them and wait for their response, then wait again until they open in the UK.
