get the Baratza Encore ESP over this. only get this if that special is not available and you cannot stretch your budget to get it

    • Do you have to pour the grinded coffee beans into the portafilter? I'm very new to all this lol. Just bought the dual boiler yesterday.

      • You grind it into a dosing cup and then flip it with the portafilter. Im sure you could buy a mod if you want to do direct to portafilter with out holding it.

      • You don’t have to but that’s what I do. I have a portafilter dozing ring which keeps the coffee until tamping

Daddy Hoff didn't rate this one particularly high in his recent comparison video

As he alludes to, SGP is about ten years old and is probably nearly end-of-life. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what the replacement is, since there will be a bit of Baratza in there

    • Breville own Baratza now?

      • +1

yep. They acquired Baratza in 2020, and Lelit in 2022

He also didn't say it was bad. You have to also take into consideration sale price making the baratza encore esp the winner here.

  • Not super happy with my BSG
    Lots of retention
Have to regularly (every 350 gm of coffee) unlock, clean and realign the top cog.

  • These things eat clutches… and Breville and lax in their warrantly.
Tried to make a claim on one that began failing in warranty period (was only making funny noises and didn't like my chances of making a claim on the noises alone).
    Failed completely a week later.

    Ended up fixing it myself.
Flipped the clutch over, re-built it and set it tighter.

    The clutch design is rubbish…
Basically any slippage of the clutch destroys the clutch, but may protect the motor.
A destroyed clutch is useless anyway, so why protect the motor? The motor is on a timer anyway so overheat is not any real concern.
