Philips Hue Garnea V2 White Ambience Downlight (90mm, 800lm) $41 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

230

JB have reduced the Garnea Hue lights to match Amazon. They're normally $84 RRP, currently ticketed at $64 in store when you buy 4.

These are the updated version of Garnea with increased brightness (800 lumens vs 600 lumens on the first model), so they are on par with the Akari colour down lights for brightness, at a cheaper price (sacrificing RGB colour obviously). I believe this is a historical low on Garnea, let alone the newer V2 model.

Also available on Amazon AU: https://www.amazon.com.au/Philips-Hue-Garnea-Ambiance-Downli…

Bunnings have also price matched but the listing appears to show the V1: https://www.bunnings.com.au/philips-led-650lm-white-ambient-…

I purchased two units from Amazon and paired them with home assistant via Z2M. While they are functional, but they are shown unsupported.

I use my Hue lights via the Hue Bridge to HA. Works flawlessly that way for me.

For Philips hue, I always found it better to pair it with their hub and connect that to HA. It allows you to use entertainment zones and other hue specific features while also keeping all the automation and customisation that HA has.

I have half a dozen Philips Hue lights, but this downlight is the only one showing as unsupported in Z2M, though it is functioning properly. https://imgur.com/jcjT1A1

How can you confirm the amazon ones are v2?

    • Box shape is the only obvious thing I can see.

    • I purchased two from them last week and confirmed that they are the 100-lumen version (v2).

  • Are these types of lights dimmerable?

    • +1

Yes but via the Hue dimmers or app (or any other HA control)

  • How do we know the one from Amazon is 800 lumens? It doesn't say it on the page

    • The product number is the same as the Hue site for the V2 model (929003584201), and the box is the updated box (rectangular vs cube).

I purchased a bunch of these earlier in the year, both from JB and Amazon. Both came in the rectangular box, however, at the time they were advertised as 600 lumens on the website. Does this mean I actually have the v2?

        • To be honest I'm not 100% sure the box size itself is a true confirmation. The Garnea V2 has only been on the market for <3 months as far as I know.

Best to check either the light itself or the box, both will say 800 lumens on it. The web listing would likely be outdated as I doubt every retailer would update their listing at the exact moment they receive V2s instead of V1s.

          • @Soothsayer: Bought from Amazon link above and I could confirm it's 800 lumens

I bought some from Amazon on the weekend and they match the V2 model number Soothsayer lists below

Recently replaced all my downlights in the home and lights to the HUE system.

    It's pretty good

Had an eletrician replace 11 downlights and drill 10mm holes and replaced the hardwired old downlights with the plug n play ones for the HUEs

      drill 10mm holes

Those must be some tiny downlights. Just one LED?

      • lol

  • Good deal, but hopefully cashback 10-15% home improvement will come back for amazon during black friday sales @gotyourback

  • Anyone suggest a good smart switch with dimming features? Prob run this on HA and replace the shitty switch I have now.

  • I am pretty happy with our Hue system, although if you have more than 40 devices, you'll need a second Hue bridge and the two bridges won't talk to each other.

You can get around that with some workarounds like using Samsung Smart Things (though if you change any light names, you'll need to manually rename it in ST), and have that (rather than Hue) connect to your Alexa/Google Home, but you still need to use the Hue app for some functions. It's a major PITA and the support for multiple bridges keeps being teased but never happens.

I just picked one up from Bunnings to test out. Bizzarely on the shelf were 4 boxes of the same rectangular dimension, 2 of them had "600 lumens" text on the box and 2 were this bulb V2 (identified by "800 lumens" on the box and part number 9290035842) which rang up as $40.80. Not sure what's going on there.
