Which PoE Switch/Injector Do I Need for a Doorbell/Security Monitoring??

I bought a reolink poe doorbell, and supposedly need a poe switch or injector. Any suggestions on which to get, or can I use it another way?

Also have a xvr5104hs-x1 (older tech) camera system that has 4 Channel, BNC and 4+2 Channel IP camera.

4 cameras are connected via BNC that show up just fine, and there are two IP cameras that aren't showing up, so I need to fix that….. I'm guessing I can't use the reolink to show up on xvr as well as the two IP cameras?

Bought the house a year ago and haven't really fiddled with anything, the 2 IP cameras have never showed on the monitor.

No, sounds like your camera system is BNC+12v only. So IP cameras and Reolink Doorbell won’t work with it.

Maybe watch out for more Reolink deals and upgrade your entire system?

I did that and don’t look back. Love my Reolink system now.

    • Can I ask how it’s laid out? I’m about to get an NVR based set up. Does each camera’s cable need to connect to the NVR individually or can I put them on a switch and then send just one cable to the NVR?

The reason I’m asking is that the NVR will be next to my TV and I’m trying to minimise cable clutter.

can I put them on a switch and then send just one cable to the NVR?

You can do this, but you need to have a POE Switch.

I have only a few cameras connected directly to the NVR and then other cameras are connected to my Network via a POE switch which then the NVR detects and adds to it. This is just because other cameras are in two out buildings.

Thanks I'll take a look into that. I've got a lot to learn!

  • Assuming you have the same POE Reolink doorbell as me it will work fine with a cheap POE injector:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/322408095795

I run mine from 12V with no problem, despite the instructions mentioning 24V min.

I use a generic NVR, so it doesn't provide POE

    • Where does the DC port plug into? Do you need a power supply for that injector?

      • Yes, just a normal 5.5mm type plug. Very likely you have a 12-48V one spare in the house from an old router.

But you mentioned that your current NVR can supply 12V, so put a plug on the end of that.

Your XVR is a hybrid one meaning it can support both IP and old Analog cameras connected with coax/BNC.

If you have no immediate plans to add any additional POE devices just get a 4-8 port POE switch like this one: https://www.amazon.com.au/TP-Link-Gigabit-Recovery-Operation…

Then connect all IP/POE devices to the POE switch similar to how it is shown in this diagram - https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/60673/117877/cams.jpg

Connect to the XVR and search for additional cameras. As long as the LAN port of the XVR and the two IP cameras are in the same IP subnet the XVR will be able to see those.

By the way the XVR you have isn't too bad or too old - Just made to work with a different technology. If all the cameras work there is no need to throw everything away but once they start to fail think about upgrading to IP cameras and a NVR

    • Thanks, where did that diagram come from?

      It's super useful!
