Commenter on this post mentioned Canada as an option. I was able to create a new Canadian Amazon account via Audible, using a VPN and it did not ask for any SMS verification (unlike US site) - It just asked for payment details, and I put in all my Australian authentic credit card details including country "Australia" and it worked.

The only downside is the $20 credit is Canadian dollars and not US dollars. But if you stay a member, I guess the monthly plan is more affordable too.

  I've updated to the deal to include the new Canada info that works.

  Unfortunately the one book that I wanted is not available in that store.

  I can't find this book on my normal places I download audiobooks so if anyone has a way to find this book as m4b or similar please help me out:
