  • For those looking for an alternative, The other choice is "Magic Sarap" which you can find in any asian store too. I think it's probably unhealthier, but that thing is great. haha

  • A bit of Yum yum? Fuiyoh!!!

    • yum yum is just msg, so just buy the real thing

      • actually it's a more expensive branded msg that is cut with toasted salt and pepper, so just save your money and buy pure.

A lot of people feel excited because of this MSG.

I don’t touch the stuff. I went with four mates to a Chinese restaurant for dinner and none of us slept well that night.

    • With many happy endings

    • Same, I always feel unwell after MSG. Triggers headaches for me.

      • How do you know when you're eating MSG?

        • I find dryness of the mouth if i have eaten food with lots of msg.

But im not so weak unlike uncle rogers other nephews and nieces. Who are allergic to msg.

          • @xoom: Again, how do you know there is MSG in that food.

            • @ForkSnorter: Firstly i can taste it. And the after effects are dryness of the mouth.

This first it started when i personally saw someone put far too much msg in a dish. Then the sensation of dryness of the mouth afterwards. i kept getting the same mouth feel after other food i have tried with far too much msg there after.

              • @xoom: Yes, too much of anything will give you side effects. On the other hand, it can be difficult to be sure what specifically gave you those side effects.

I have gotten side effects from eating too much salt many times in my life, and no doubt millions of others have too. Side effects from eating too much MSG are much rarer, and I'd argue getting side effects from eating too much salt is probably 1000 times, possibly even a million times more common, seeing as too much salt is in so many different foods, and added MSG is not in that many foods, and certainly not at toxic levels like salt is.

Side effects from too much salt consumption include excessive thirst, leading to excessive water consumption, which leads to frequent urination, high blood pressure, headache, feeling of tightness and stress, difficulty relaxing, difficulty sleeping, etc.

Those blaming bad sleep on MSG were almost certainly affected by too much salt, not MSG.

Interesting that you blamed it on the MSG, when you have no idea how much MSG they used. And you didn't blame it on the tea (caffeine), the alcohol, the salt, the other food additives, the desert (chocolate contains caffeine), the fact that you maybe ate too late or stayed up too late. All these things affect sleep.

  • next up, a sack of pure gluten please.

    • Glutamate is not the same as gluten.

      • Shabaka is likely taking aim at the gluten allergic.

  • Uncle Hiphopopotamus. FUIYOH!!!

  • MSG is not a pure salt. The glutamate portion is an almino acid and contains calories. 1g of MSG contains 4 calories, similar to sugar. So not suitable for fasting.

bruh you don't consume the same quantities as sugar. little bit goes a long way. for sugar you need like 20g to really get it going.
