Buying Laptop - Budget $1000

Hi, I’ve been out of the game for a while (bought my last personal laptop more than 10 years ago) and looking at buying a new one.

Lots has changed (specs) since that time so wondering if anyone can recommend a laptop for general use (no gaming, video editing, etc) at about a $1000. Or advise on what's too old for these days (processor, storage, RAM, etc)

I’m after a fast and thin/light laptop for general use (mainly for photos, storage, watching movies, etc).
Many thanks in advance.

  • Hey mate, I bought a ThinkPad refurbished Ryzen 5 8gb RAM for 300 bucks!!! I highly recommend the ThinkPad range refurbished (Look for a good display on it). Easy to upgrade too. Nothing wrong with refurbished! Sus eBay and other sites.

  • would definitely recommend a snapdragon processor laptop, efficiency can be better than a macbook and can easily find some for under $1000 for BF sales, just double check their compatibility with what you need.

  • Looking for the same thing too, pretty overwhelmed with the range of options out there!
I assume an i7 core is superior to an Ultra 5 core?
There's a few HP ones which seems to be on special on JB HiFi and HN for just under $900, but not sure if I am just getting sucked into the discount off the RRP! haha

  • Sorry OP, hope you don't mind hijacking your thread for same question.

Looking for 16" laptop on BF special with good screen spec. Just thought good screen typically means good spec these days. Thanks
