Absolutely love this brand of matcha. Its much better than the 'Borovela' brand that I normally buy.

Its rare to see it on sale in any capacity, so I usually stock up on a few packets when its discounted.

Hope you enjoy!

I recently bought this one which was 500g for $36 which works out to less than a quarter of this price. I think it's similar quality?

    • What expiry date did you get on your orders?

    • There are many grades out there. But premium quality match powder can go for 1-2g per dollar. You can check on its quality by looking at the colour (intensive bright green). Most of the cheap matcha I bought have this pale green.

Yeh, seems pretty pricey still for what I assume is culinary grade.

Missus got the Saikou one for around $11 or $12 which is the same as Borovela (same parent company, I assume exactly the same product too)

I like how Umami describes their product as "reasonable matcha powder"

    • it sounds funny when they claim "high quality and reasonable matcha powder"

    • This one is 'culinary grade'.

Still drinkable and good, a bit bitter.

There are many grades of matcha, and prices vary a lot. Matcha from Uji is highly regarded and currently there is a huge matcha shortage…even in Japan, one brand mostly out of stock and other brands limit one matcha product per person. Look for the vibrant green colour. The dull green tends to taste grassy.

    • I've had some ceremonial grade Matcha, which is on another level but very expensive.

deal01, which would you say is the best bang for buck in your experience?

The one I've posted here is it for me.

      • I think Ito En is a reputable brand for matcha and fine for drinking matcha lattes

Ceremonial have lots of price and grades and often less bitter and easy to drink, but yes pricey.
Culinary grades - good for baking and matcha lattes. I'm always after vibrant green as quality is better, taste is great.

I've liked Ippodo brand - but I purchased from Japan - can be as cheap as $7 for 30-40g. Marakyu is another favourite, vibrant green, and affordable but I also only get in Japan. The matcha shortage has made it difficult to even buy it…

In Au - Matcha maiden I've tried - is ok, average dull green but taste wise fine. Organic Matcha Powder – 70g is $23. I bought from Zen wonders too before a few times - I quite liked them, more vibrant green than average matcha. They've closed the online shop for now - not sure if it's due to shortage as well.

Also tip for matcha - best stored in a tin in the fridge (no sunlight and moisture). Once opened, should be consumed in a few weeks. I have kept mine way longer - but matcha doesn't keep well once opened
