Herman Miller Aeron Remastered $1900 (20% off) with Free Delivery in Sydney Metro Area @ Sit Back & Relax

160
HMFREESHIP

Another decent deal for this premium chair. It is the remastered/new version, in graphite, with arm rests and from an authorised dealer. However, I'd HIGHLY recommend trying it in a showroom first as its a significant investment.

The free Sydney metro area shipping may make it compelling to those in Sydney use code: HMFREESHIP.

I've had my current one since 2008, and although its not showing any signs of breaking, if I had to replace it I would do it in an instant.

      If my options are:
      Known quality chair for 2k
Unknown quality chair for 1.5k (or 1k)

I'm going to choose the known quantity. Each to their own though, if you have found another chair thats comfortable for you at a lower price point great, but to think that people only buy this due to "group think" is..

      • If only places existed where you could demo chairs… that's literally the kind of irrational decision making I'm describing.

Someone more than doubles the price of something, you do not say please and thankyou for still giving you the option of being able to purchase it at all.

Can you suggest an alternative instead of bagging on the deal?

I've posted lists in several deals on this website before, as have others. This is both searchable on here, and widely on the internet.

Here's a recent tier list, and here's an overall tier list for comfort (somewhat subjective, but it's a good discussion amongst 4 judges).

I've demoed these HM chairs. The Embody is great and the updated Aeron is good, but their direct and indirect competitors (Haworth, Steelcase, Ergohuman) are $750-$1200 less before considering sales prices.

In case anyone's wondering: older Aerons are not worth it unless they're $300 or less on the used market (and in good condition).

In your videos linked, they rank the aeron S tier with nothing else in that bracket above all the suggestions you give. Although the aeron is pricey, it is in a tier above the rest. So I'm not sure why you're so against it.

Otherwise personally I chairs are all subjective, people should really go into a showroom and try them all out before making assumptions and purchasing one. I found the aeron way above all the other chairs in shown in the videos and that's why I bought mine but to each their own.

@POSITIVEVIBESONLY: I don't think we have access to the updated Zody here yet, but we're talking about 95% of what these HM chairs are like for most people, for less than half the price.

I just want people to pump the brakes a bit and canvas the information… same thing happens with the Shure SM7B, which often makes zero financial sense for the person buying it (even worse once they grab an interface, mixer, and cloud lifter or fethead for it without even questioning the information provided).

            • +1

@jasswolf: That makes sense. I feel like that's with most purchases though, there's always cheaper products that get your most of the way there but there's always a premium for the original.

Comparing cushion chairs with mesh chairs is a hard one with a lot of preference coming into it.

Zody's seat cushion is way too big for my liking and nothing on the market gives me a firm mesh like the aeron. Also from Tbargin12's comment below, I've sat on steelcase chairs and their stuff is a whole tier below HM and even lower than Haworth.

A lot of people have recc the Fern and that gave me a lot of back pain too, I just couldn't get used to the sitting position.

              • @POSITIVEVIBESONLY: Yeah we're talking ergonomics and substantially varied anatomy here so it's about as subjective as it gets, but for full mesh the next option is the Ergohuman gen 2 Elite with its updated mesh.

Seems to be a pretty solid pick.

I like BTOD, but they have a thing against the Aeron, they've previously had it pretty low on their tier lists, maybe on non mesh only tier lists. Aeron is one of those chair you either love it or you don't, but to have it comparable with Karman, and recommend it as an alternative, I don't think so. It's another mesh chair sure, but it's no Aeron.

Also Haworth isn't even close to having anything comparable to HM really, completely different styles, and you can physically feel their build quality is not as good as HM as much as I dislike their pricing also.

          • @Tbargain12: The old Aeron was dated, and the only thing it still has going for it is the mesh quality.

If you want full mesh, look at the updated Ergohuman gen 2 Elite or better.

            • @jasswolf: I'm not referring to the old one, I'm referring to Remastered, I don't even talk about the old one because it's technically not sold as new anymore.

              • @Tbargain12: Ok, but they are when they're ranking it C.

                • @jasswolf: Yeah I think that was the old list, their 2024 tier list have it down as B, I think couple of their guys just don't really like it. Which is fair!

          • +1

@Tbargain12: I agree. Steelcase chairs just aren't as nice, their arm rests feel not great and back support inferior. Haworth a league above them but even the HM is a league above everything for build quality and QC from the wheels to the arm rests and back support.

            • @POSITIVEVIBESONLY: From my own experience, Steelcase's LEAP v2 whole backrest resistance ordeal along with lumbar was just… Bizzare, I mean to me that's just more of a design choice. Gesture was just off completely for me. I did like the Think v2. I rated their quality though, I personally think they're in the middle.

I thought Haworth was a little bit flimsy feeling, could've just been their demo chair, but it didn't feel as solid, and I think asking my local dealer about the warranty, and they were basically indicating not much is covered other than if something failed mechanically, got me a little sketched out.

              • +1

@Tbargain12: I agree, the LEAP v2 back support made it worst than sitting on regular wooden chairs. Maybe I'm just shunned from their lineup of chairs due to how weirdly designed some of them are.

      • second hand market

I agree somewhat. They're good chairs but crazy overpriced. The price jack that occurred over COVID was egregious. I'm not sure what the reasoning was but if they're blaming COVID for like a 50% price hike they're off their heads. Pathetic abuse of a global pandemic (they aren't the only ones).

This is coming from someone who owns a Mirra 2 also.

      • Yeah there comes a point where you either:

        a) source new parts at a fair price

        b) fire your engineers for billing you too much time for a re-design

I think HM are realising that given this pricing, but it's got to continue to come back in. In a world where people aren't exactly chained to a desk for office work, they're overvaluing how much they can claw from consumers.

  • Do you mean showroom from other stores?
All I can see is warehouse locations from them.

    • +1

Not this company specifically, just whatever shop has one for display/testing that is closest to you.

  • +1

Had one of these but always preferred the Steelcase leap v2 more so somehow sold mine for a profit thanks to the inflation on these lol

    • Yep, these chairs are quite subjective. I tried to Leap V2 and to me it was much more clunky feeling, the back rest actually hurt my back. Aeron was a way better fit for me instead.

    • I managed to get a Leap v2 (without armrests) on marketplace for a steal at $100, but i'm not a huge fan of it - lower back / lumbar area in particular is rubbish and poorly position, and the model I got doesn't come with the adjustable lumbar plastic thing.

  • +1

LOL. Remastered? What is this, some kind of video games or movies?
More like used and refurbished furniture.

    • It's a markedly updated model, but the original asking price was wild, that's for sure.

    • HM uses remastered as a "2.0" moniker. Its not a refurbished model.

  • Instead of this, I would go to a wrecking yard and grap a Mercedes front seat for 50-100 bucks or so.
