Close to ATL I think.

I've purchased a few of these for home and family friends and they've been really good, with the exception of last week when my own sensor array stopped working (installed in March 2024). Contacted seller via amazon and a new sensor array turned up 2 days later which I was happy with.

Good data, nice screen, easy to use, decent app and various integration uses.

I bought another, not sure who to give it to as an xmas gift yet!

Don't let the bus driver catch you

  • I've always been interested in one of these but am a total noob.

What do you get out of owning one of these?

    • +5

      Live and historical data.

As an aside, if you create an ecowitt account you can just log in and click weather map, then find someone with a weather station close to where you'd like to look and see what their data says… I spose that's more the ozbargain way, free is free.

      • Good to know

When I eventually set up home assistant wnr have a big display, do you know if these can hook in?

Is ecowitt a reputable brand for these?

        • +2

Ill answer that Ecowitt is a good supplier yes

Im not sure about intergrations with other systems, that would be pretty cool and they are pretty flexible

I got a different model for fathers day and love it. Both the sensor and the display that handles the data run off either 240 or battery backup so when the power goes out you continue to get your data and it gets pumped up to the internet once things come back

We've had 3 power outages in the recent month or so its and its run flawlessly

          Can recommend the brand

        • +1

There is an EcoWitt integration for Home Assistant.

          • @mathew42: Seems like a cool piece of kit

            I might jump on it

            Thanks everyone

      • Live and historical data.

        Live, yes.

Historical, no. You need to setup something to pull data for you to keep historical data or pay for a service that it sends the data too. I personally pull mine from an API into a Wordpress database every 30 seconds, but it requires a fair few server resources, so kinda outweighs itself. Better to spend some money on something else that is better for historical data.

        • +2

Ecowitt do this for free. So yes, live and historical.

          • @onlybuysdeals: My apologies, it seems it does. It has gotten better than when I first got mine, it was very crappy.

            • +1

@geekcohen: All good. Personally i think these are the best bang for buck you can get. And i like i can keep my data private rather than public. What ecowitt do with it who knows, but at least it is not publicly available if you care about that kind of thing.

My next door neighbour has his station on Wunderground, I use the data constantly.

    • +3

I'm shocked how popular that site is, there so many freakin stations out there. A new one popped up a few hundred meters from our house the other week.

  • has anyone got WS69 (sensor part) only and used it with home assistant ? it is $79 now
I got couple of WN31 sensors and I use them directly on home assistant with rtl433

also can anyone recommend me a cheap mounting pole, there is one at Bunnings but it is $32

    • Also curious. Id like to integrate with HA

  • Has anyone got the HP2561? Looking at that one for the dew point amongst others that the 2910 doesnt seem to have…

  • Do I need one of these?

    • +1

@Dimz:If you're asking this question, it likely means you don't need one. However, if you're genuinely interested in getting a personal weather station, I recommend checking out options from Ambient Weather, AcuRite, Davis Instruments, or La Crosse Technology. My parents have a farm, and they've always preferred Davis Instruments because their stations are highly accurate, easy to calibrate, and last for many years. I've had an Ambient Weather station for about 10 years, and it's still going strong. Personally, if mine broke down, I wouldn’t replace it because nowadays, there are so many online weather stations that offer more precise data than most personal ones—especially if you're living in a suburban area, where a personal station may not be necessary. However, if you're in a rural area or have a farm, I’d definitely recommend getting a personal weather station.

  • I own this for 2-3 years and using only with HA. I installed it on top of the roof. A few months later it was always showing no rain. I had to go back on the bloody roof and saw a spider somehow managed to tangle the mechanical water gauge.

Have had one for years, works great.

Main use for mine is to determine how much rain has fallen on my property and if I really do need to water the plants that day.
