Mycar Discount - Suggestions Needed

My 2018 Passat got coolant leak and was quoted around $2000 to fix the same.

They don’t accept any gift card, is there any discount which I can use to minimize the repair amount.

Uber 12.5% discount is already expired.

I always log into auto guru . com .au and compare quotes for repairs and servicing I need on there - when I then leave it and take no action for a few days I almost always get emailed a $100 voucher of something similar if I go ahead and book through their system. Mycar is on there and I have used this process to score $100 off multiple times.

Sounds like a great system. Gerting theblowest bidder to repair your car. What could possibly go wrong.

No - whether you choose the lowest quote is up to you. Each repairer has a star rating like Ebay which shows the numbers of reviews and overall score etc (which you can then back up by checking google or elsewhere - not perfect or fool-proof I know but it is something). You can also see quotes ranked by how far away each is from you instead of by price (etc).

I've been using it for 10 years or so and never had an issue, even used it to get other service yards and even the dealer to price match or knock hundreds off when there was a low price on there from a provider that I was iffy about (and so wasn't going to use - they didn't know that). Brands like Mycar are on there so it isn't like it is a collection of dodgy no names either. I figure we need all the tools we can to help get us a fair shake on servicing and repair costs so I use it to get an idea of the price range out there before booking somewhere even if I don't end up going with their quotes.

Thanks for the tip. Interesting site, saves me from calling them — might still call though.

  • Go to WM Euro Automotive to get a second opinion. Specialises in VW and can get cheaper parts (both new and used) and has reasonable labour rates.

  • I don't have an opinion on WM Euro Automotive but I do recommend you seek out a VW specialist.

Sometimes they can pinpoint and repair quicker/cheaper than a mechanic that works on a large range of vehicles.

  • If you are in Brisbane, PM me for a recommended VW mechanic.

      • You should message Hengs Garage in Cabramatta on facebook messenger for a quote - they're very transparent and usually one of the cheapest

They accepted Flybuys dollars last time I went, they weren't aware of it as an option but the card reader accepted it.

  • I would go to a local mechanic. Find out exactly what needed to be replaced. It can be cheaper if you sourced the parts instead of the mechanic, and you might be able to use gift cards towards the parts, depending on the supplier.

Only 6 years old and leaking coolant. Time to move it onto the next sucker. Should be able to get 20+ years out of a cooling system.
