Could someone please help me understand why the 35mm is so much more expensive ($ 806.65 @jb) than this? Is that usually the case with lower focal length?

  Wide angles (like 35mm) are often more complex to produce. 50mm lenses are typically more in demand as beginner friendly leading to higher production volume and lower costs. 35mm, 85mm are usually positioned as premium, specialist lenses.
