If you have a year or so to finish a game its well worth it :)
It's sitting on my shelf begging to be played lol
Did you play the Digital version? Ton of fun and it captures about 80% of the game.
I tried but I didn't like it.. I feel it's much better as a co op game
I played it with a rotating group of 3. So much easier logistically that the board game .
@Nalar: Ahhh makes sense I played it solo lol
I really enjoyed Gloomhaven. My friends and I played it before the pandemic and continued on Tabletop from steam during the lockdown and went back to playing irl. We ended up finishing after 3 years or so. Each scenario took around 4 hours and we went through around 50+ scenarios.
I really love the world building with various races that is not the usual orc, elves archetype and it gave a bit more depth and nuances to each character.
What I also really enjoyed was the modifier deck which plays very different from a dice. Character upgrades with changing the modifier deck was really fun.
I really enjoyed building decks with various characters.
Also, I really enjoyed that you pick a card that determines your character reason to go on the journey and once you fulfil it, your character retires. Each scenario has its own cards you pick too and this was quite revolutionary at the time since coop games used to be plagued with a person telling everyone what to do. Having this allowed for non-optimal play.
Scenarios are well balanced, it's difficult and a lot of the time we would just pass the scenario. Rarely did it feel impossible and at the same time it didn't feel like cakewalk (unless your party has some crazy team composition bit this doesn't last as someone will retire soon).
We did run apps like gloomhaven helper to improve general visibility of health, turn order.
As for board games, it's my personal favourite game to play with very close friends. We have over 100+ ranging from zombiecide collection, pandemic legacy, Kingdom death monster, horizon zero dawn, monster hunter, etc. My friends might not agree since they like competitive ones but I like coop
I got Frosthaven but I got kids by then and never got around to starting it.
For this price, I think it's a steal. GH is 10kg, FH is an insane 16kg. It's packed full of contents. I just wish I have the time to play it.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk. Sorry for all the rambles, tired but I really want to say I really enjoyed GH
I'm more jealous you and your mates were able to continuously play!
I have been watching this for a while on Amazon and the price tends to sit around $295 as the standard price. Naturally it will fluctuate, but I have never seen it at $449.95!! I am waiting for it to go sub-200.
Lol my mates don't even want to play gloomhaven as we meet once a month/couple of months and one match takes several hours to days.
