Turns out making coffee hasn't changed that much! I think if things are going to go wrong with these machines, it's usually in the first year.
any of the newer technology
which has nothing to do with the coffee. The touch screens, buttons and electronics are just going to mean more things to break more easily.

From the reviews I've read, some of the differences do affect the coffee:
Thermojet vs Thermocoil: Faster heat up, and more consistent temperature control (more consistent extraction).
Lower pressure extraction on the Barista pro (10 Bar) vs Barista express (14-15 bar) apparently "results in smoother and more balanced taste".
4-hole steam wand vs 1-hole steam wand makes frothing faster and easier.
Also, apparently on Barista Pro, you can adjust the pre-infusion time, which may affect the taste.
Keep in mind, I don't know if all this is true, as I'm not an expert.
I have this machine and it is not good. Just keeps pouring and won't stop unless you hit the button. The internal grinder pales in comparison to my breville smart grinder. I'm hoping a deal comes up on a Bambino plus in the next couple of days
It sounds like you're using the program button every time.
I use either the 1 or 2 cup button
Then there's something wrong with your machine. I've had mine for 6 years and it hasn't missed a beat. All I've done is replace a seal and do a backwash/descale when it tells me to, I've never used the water filters either.

Or just use the programming button & set it to how much you want.
@WatchNerd: Thx all fixed
That's not right, perhaps you've re-programmed the machine extraction time by mistake..
Try this:
- Press and hold the PROGRAM button until the machine beeps three times..Try pulling a shot again, the above should hopefully reset to the default extraction times and hopefully fix the issue you are having… good luck!
@Jonc: Thankyou all fixed
Sounds like the flow meter issue. If you're lucky the meter itself might be OK, and you're just seeing the effects of a bad connection on the plug attachment, have a look at this if you fancy trying to fix it yourself:
https://share.nuclino.site/Sage-Barista-Express---Flow-meter…How long have you had it?
I have this exact model too and don't have that issue. You sure it's not in programming mode?
Thankyou all , descaled twice, flushed, reset program . Now makes a wondetful 60ml doubleshot pour
Thanks. 1000 upvotes. Just in time.
Still the best value for money espresso machine you can buy. Ive had mine for 9 years, and have only had to change a couple group head seals and solenoids once which cost me $120 for the part. I fixed it myself which wasn't too hard.
We bought an Impress recently as it makes it easier for other members of the family to use it. Very happy with it. Would have bought the Pro instead otherwise. This is an excellent price though for the Express.
Thinking about this, but the 1-year warranty turns me off buying it, when other Breville models have 2-year warranty. Also the fact that it's a 15-year-old model without any of the newer technology included in Express Impress, Barista Pro, Bambino Plus, etc.
