    Tell them the price, son!

  • How much was it before ?

  • Anyone know how long this goes for?

I see it says Black Friday sale but that doesn't mean much as it's only November and Christmas seems like it's everywhere.

    • +1

i sent an email to officeworks to ask them

      • Did they get back to you on that?

        • Nah not yet, I just got sent an auto reply telling me they've got a high volume of requests, but I need to know cause I'm trying to save up enough which is pretty hard at minimum wage at 16, I would have barely enough by the 3rd, so hopefully they don't end it too soon

          • @emptywallet92: This might be a bit stingy and a long shot, but you could try asking if the guy at the behind the counter can give u a staff discount haha

            • @Blitzfx: Haha, worth a shot, I'm working at JB hifi tho so I'll see, our discount is cost price so I'm planning on checking how cheap they get

  • +1

    This is 12th gen cpu

    • +5

less problematic than 13 or 14?

      • Cooler

      • Apparently the issues are only with desktop CPUs.

        • +3

If you checkout reddit, millions of post about LOQ dead mobo there.

          • @kaikor: Ok I was talking about Intel 13th and 14th Gen issues.

            • @paulaus: There are reports of users having issues. Many posts where people state this someone chimes in with a report of instability on their gaming laptop. Who knows if this is paranoia/hysteria or if the numbers are being exaggerated. Perhaps if Intel had handled the situation properly we would have more confidence in their assurances. I have a Legion 7 Pro with i9-13900HX and I'm almost afraid to use it.

              https://www.reddit.com/r/LenovoLegion/comments/1emsccy/conce…

        • Its not about desktop or mobile but its the TDP.

Any 13th/14th gen with a TDP higher than 65W. So a lot of gaming laptop processors are also affected.

  • The photos there showing kind of a new exterior design? The LOQ logo is right in the middle of the lid now.

    • +1

Yes, this is new Model. Only released in Sept, 2024. https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/LOQ_15IAX9E?M=83LK0010AU

      • Stock check showing none of the stores actually stocking this, and seems only can buy online with NSW exclusive only, a bit funny for such a new model …

      • Interesting they're using 12th gen in late 2024 model

  • I heard there are issues with dead MOBOs with the Intel variants of the LOQ. Not sure if it's this Intel generation though.

  • looks like the square lenovo power plug, not usb-c ? also the graphics chip says 65w that what will drain battery and kick in the fan.

  • Noob question, what is the key difference between this and non gaming lenovo laptop?
If you are planning to get a new laptop for occasion gaming 30% of time and 70% surfing which is better?

    • +1

The dedicated graphics card (the 3050) is usually the difference, especially at this price. But it's about to be 2 generations old, better than Intel ARC and most AMD graphics though, but it will suck power on battery as well, so it's a bit of a tradeoff

    • +1

Biggest cons for gaming laptops are usually form factor(bigger and heavier), battery life (shorter due to components used), and sometimes the screen (focus on fast refresh rates, over resolution or contrast at the price point).

There are some really good options with integrated graphics being released right now and after Xmas which provide a balance of basic gaming, but without the cons above (to a certain extent regarding battery life while gaming).

    • +1

What games do you plan to play? If you're thinking modern AAA games, you'd want a gaming one. If you're playing things like Fortnite, a modern regular one with decent specs would be alright.

I just bought a LOQ a few months back. Barely use it for gaming. I should have saved my cash and bought a Steam Deck or something. Turns out I only play games on the train theses days.

  • 3050 is gross tbf.

    • +2

Yeah so even at this price is not quite a bargain, maybe $697 will be a good buy

    • +2

Got a better gaming laptop for this price or cheaper?

  • +2

It's hit this price before for this spec, but still a good price for the 3050 6GB relative to other models that are generally worse (eg lower power limit, so worse performance, lower quality chassis etc).

    • Hey Jarrod, is there any chance you're going to review this ? Love Ur channel btw

      • +1

Yes it arrived today, but the video won't be up til December sometime as I need to finish the end of year pre-Black Friday stuff first, and it'll take some time to test.

        • Let's gooo thanks Jarrod, :) Ur the best

        • Would you be able to give a quick comment about the chassis? It looks different to other LOQ 15 especially at the back + exhaust vents

          • +1

@Blitzfx: It's essentially a completely different machine, just with LOQ slapped onto it. Reminds me of a cheaper ideapad from a few years ago, I guess it's easy for them to produce them cheaper now. Definitely feels cheaper compared to original LOQ, but not terrible.

            • @JarrodsTech: Just went in store to compare, and it's more similar to the lenovo slim than any other model.

IMO the cutting corners is way too much for LOQ Essentials, and trying to market it as a gaming laptop is a bit dodgy.
The keyboard is also impacted, so the shrunken arrow keys are completely inappropriate for games which need the arrow keys, e.g. Hell Divers 2 (if you re-map it) or a rhythm game.
With this kind of cost cutting measure, I would expect to see the difference reflected in the price, but it isn't

              • @Blitzfx: It sort of is reflected in the price though, $897 AUD for an RTX 4050 regardless of power limit is basically as low as I've ever seen.

                • @JarrodsTech: You mean 3050? Also, would the previous deal have been better? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/850111
Does closing the lid and using this in docked mode block the heat exhaust in your opinion?
I feel like I probably wouldn't have been so on the fence if I wasn't suffering through 35C temps right now lol

                  • @Blitzfx: Yeah 3050, the one you linked is a better model for sure.

I haven't tested it enough to answer the rest.

Is this one of best laptop for playing triple AAA tittles on high resolution with 60fps? Will this run better than any LG gram?

    • +1

Depends on the game, settings, and resolution.

Ultimately the RTX 3050 is around entry level, but it can still run modern games fairly well at low-med settings 1080p. Again depends on the game, lighter weight titles go ok with higher settings too. Best bet is to check some benchmarks/gameplay on the hardware you're thinking of getting and seeing how it does.

      • Can play like cyber punk with no issues with lower settings?

        • Yes.

      • Most games these days are still designed to run on 11-year-old PS4 (Geforce 700 era) hardware. I think a 3050 from 2022 is going to cope fine lol.

        • +5

Just setting expectations, but idk I only test gaming laptops full time for the last few years so I probably don't know hehe

  • How much VRAM? I thought the 3050 is only 4GB?

    • Nah, this models 6gb

      • Hmm, according to Wikipedia, the 6GB version has a lower 96-bit bus width compared with 128-bit for the 4GB version. This would indicate lesser performance? See:

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_30_series#Laptop

        • Think it has an extra 512 CUDA cores, higher core boost clock and some extra Texture Mapping Units compared to the 4gb on e.

          3050 6GB - 96bit memory bus, 168gb/s memory bandwidth, 2560 CUDA Cores, 80 TMU's, 32 ROPS. 65w

          3050 4GB - 128bit memory bus, 192gb/s memory bandwidth, 2048 CUDA Cores, 64 TMU's, 32 ROPS. 45w - 55w

          Something like that.

  • 83LK0010AU

    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6GB GDDR6, Boost Clock 1432MHz, TGP 65W, 142 AI TOPS
    15.6" FHD (1920x1080) IPS 300nits Anti-glare, 100% sRGB, 144Hz
    1x 16GB SO-DIMM DDR5-4800
    One DDR5 SO-DIMM slot
    Up to 32GB DDR5-4800
135W Slim Tip (3-pin) Power Adapter

    Good:
Display does not suck and is the best you could expect at this price point

    Borderline:
65W TGP means you lose 10% FPS compared to a full 95W model
135W power adapter means Lenovo have cut every single corner right to the edge

    Bad:
Single RAM slot, you need to chuck out the old stick if you decide to go 32GB
Could be related to 12th Gen's weak memory controller

    • +1

I've never come across a LOQ that is single RAM slot, source on this?

      • +2

        See for yourself:

        https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/LOQ_15IAX9E?M=83LK0010AU

        Memory: 1x 16GB SO-DIMM DDR5-4800
Memory Slots: One DDR5 SO-DIMM slot
Max Memory: Up to 32GB DDR5-4800

This is actually the new "LOQ Essential" chassis LOQ 15IAX9E

        Memory
        8GB (1 x 8GB) / 12GB (1 x 12 GB) / 16GB (1 x 16GB )
        4800MHz DDR5
        1 x SO-DIMM

(Great channel BTW, best in the world)

        • +1

So new design not just for external even internal they gave single RAM only. That's not nice …

        • +1

Yikes, that's an instant deal breaker imo

        • +1

Maybe they mean 1 free ddr5 slot

          • @paulaus: It's single slot only

The Lenovo builder always lets you switch between 1x16GB and 2x8GB for dual SODIMM models

This deal config is now cheaper with cashback on the Lenovo store and the specs state "16 GB DDR5-4800MHz (SODIMM)"

        • +1

Interesting, this is a different chassis to the other LOQ options out there (the power button is on the far right, keyboard/touchpad look different).

I heard there was a new "LOQ Essentials" model for their entry level, maybe this is it.

          • +4

@JarrodsTech: Just bought one to review/test. Seems a bit dodgy they sneak out this lower end version after people like me have been talking about how good the LOQ is for the last 2 years.

            • @JarrodsTech: Looking forward to the review

Seems a bit dodgy they sneak out this lower end version…

For this deal, it's more an Officeworks issue dropping the "Essential" from the product name

It is clearly labelled on the Lenovo store along with the single 16GB SODIMM

            • @JarrodsTech: 2nd this, please let us know how good or bad this 'updated' model is. THX!

        • If you compare the platform specs (linked off from that page you linked here) to the other RTX LOQs its the only one that doesnt say 'Advanced Optimus'. Is it an omission or typo? Do we assume its doesnt have it? Does it matter for a lower powered machine?

        • i like the old chassis, where the back/butt is slightly extends. kind of sexy.

  • -1

Cause I got 17 LG gram and can't run almost anything including dead space! Cost $1300, and this low end cheap laptop can.

guest wasted my money's worth before, even with integrated graphics. Isn't this Lenovo graphics card also integrated?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/868727

    • +2

      guest wasted my money's worth…

Depends, the LG is an ultrabook for travel and work, not gaming

The dedicated 3050 6GB GPU is anywhere from 50-300% faster than the integrated Arc 7 in the LG - check the benchmarks at the bottom here

Double check your game resolution as well - if you are trying to play at the native 2560x1600 with an Arc 7, that's not happening

      • I can't run anything except asphalt 9 legends which is a high demanding 3d game on my laptop, weird right so really considering this one since under $1000.

    • $5,000 specced-out MacBooks won't game as well as gaming laptops a quarter of the price.

Did you buy the LG Gram with gaming in mind?

Isn't this Lenovo graphics card also integrated?

      No

    • You should have got this laptop instead (its smaller size 14"), really surprise intel 258V arc 140V igpu catching up fast with AMD and perform quite well
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWati8uuyG4

  • Is it touch screen? Can't find on the spec.

  • I bought this with 13th gen processor last year directly from Lenovo at this price using 20% ShopBack cashback + bank specific cashback.
This year that model is back with an older gen processor and ShopBack doesn’t have cashback so they’re selling it directly at this price.
Hopefully we see similar cashback offers from Lenovo for the 4050 that’s at $1299 full price now.

Edit: well the deal last year was even better since it has dual upgradable memory slot

  • +2

$839 from the Lenovo store after 16% cashback

    • Oh no.. I'm 10 days too late

      • +1

This laptop is trash tier tbh, or at least you gey what you're paying for at the discounted price, you didn't miss out much. Check Jarrods review of this model on YT

        • But now its 1200 so i feel under 900 is a bargain and i dont game AAA titles

          • @CyberMurning: If you are around Sydney I can sell the one I bought for 900 lol, it's still inside the box it came with (bought it for a friend abroad where laptops are way more expensive)

Edit: Oh forgot to mention it has a $120 1TB SSD upgrade, bought directly from Lenovo

            • @tjoy: Sorry the review isnt that good. I think you better return it quickly, otherwise need to resell at loss.

              • @CyberMurning: That’s exactly what I said originally lol. I don’t have to sell it at a loss though I’ll just send it over to the person it was intended for
