Liked Stellar Blade but it’s not without its flaws, saying that, when it’s good it’s really good!

but it’s not without its flaws, saying that, when it’s good it’s really good!

All games / most games have flaws, and they are still really good.

      • Good jiggles?

        • The best, no expense spared.

          • @SuperGreen: Man that game really need to go on sale. I need some juggle physics in my ps5 pro.

  • +2

Absolutely brilliant game. Not without it's flaws, but going to be a front runner for this year's Game of the Year.

That would go to Gran Turismo 7.

Blew me away. I like Remake but obviously the quest quality and limited levels were hit and miss. Rebirth for me improved in all aspects.

    • If I have minimal nostalgia for the original, and haven't played Remake, is there a good chance I'll enjoy this?

      • +2

You should play Remake since this is Part 2 of a trilogy, with Remake being Part 1.

Ironically enough though not having played the 1997 original might make you actually enjoy these more potentially - coming from someone who is a fan of classics and kind of thought these remakes were… average.

      • What Stoibs said. Play remake first, then this.

I own the original, but never got into it, still sitting almost perfect in it's PS1 box lol.

        I 100% plat Remake, though didn't 100% intermission/intergrade. I very much enjoyed Remake.

I've been aiming to 100% Rebirth, and so far are up to date on all challenges, just got to Chapter 10 first playthrough (14 total I believe), and as I understand trying to plat is extremely hard.. So we'll see if I give up heh. I enjoy Rebirth for a lot of improved aspects, but as someone trying to 100% as I go, it's kinda rough/tedious. If I wasn't trying to 100%, I'd probably enjoy it more.

Be warned, there's a LOT of mini games, so if you enjoy side quests, and all different various types of mini games, you should enjoy it! (The mini games are really only hard if you try to top rank them/max them, required for 100%. If you're just playing to play the game/enjoy the game, they're relatively easy).

PS; if you're on Base PS5, just use graphics mode, Performance mode is actual trash. Only the PS5 Pros 60fps graphics enhanced mode is worth for the 60fps. And this is coming from someone who also 100%'d FF16 using performance mode (also known to dip resolution, but just isn't nearly as bad as Rebirth)

I'll struggle to be unbiased, sorry, I have a lot of nostalgia for the original and many parts of the game put a big stupid grin on my face because of how they adapted things.

I think not playing the original is fine, but not playing Remake will make a lot of things confusing because it happens directly after.

Gameplay-wise I think it has a good combat system, if you played Kingdom Hearts imagine you could slow down time to access the combat menu instead of having to do it in real time. Combat is real-time action, but doing damage builds up action bars that let you use special moves or cast magic etc. Dodging has no i-frames so dodge timing is important. You can swap between 3 characters in combat (and swap out between like 9 characters out of combat). Most of the characters have different styles and the synergy attacks are cool. Some fights are actually quite challenging if you aren't a regular consumer of things like Souls-likes, or maybe I'm just bad.

Open-world exploration I think is decent, not amazing, wouldn't write home about it. Especially the jungle area. Maps look nice though. Side-quests mostly tell interesting stories.

Main story is very good, but again a lot won't make sense if you didn't play remake. Main cast of characters is an absolute strength of the game but I think you'd need to play Remake to appreciate the character development and the relationships between the characters. I'd go as far as to say it has the best cast of characters in any game I can think of.

If you don't care about story whatsoever you might like it without remake, don't expect combat as tight as Souls games but I think it has a good system and the bosses are often very cinematic.

    Come on Amazon!

    • First thing i checked when i saw this deal haha pretty much bought my PS5 pro to play this.

      • Still trying to get the disk drive lol

        • +1

Only reason I haven't looked at doing a trade in. I need a disc drive to make the PS5 Pro work since my games are all physical. Until it's easy to get a drive there's no point.

  • +1

You should play REMAKE first, right?

    • +1

      Yes.

    • +1

      Definitely

    • +1

      Yup

    • 100% play Remake first. Enjoy the ride!!!

  • -1

FF 16 still holding on to its price for some reason. And it's older than this game

  • +1

    Awesome game

  • Hopefully Digital goes on sale soon as I painfully wait for my PS5 Pro Disc Drive……..

  • Excellent timing. Told myself I'll only buy Rebirth after I've 100% all the KH games and FF Intergrade. Just about to finish FF Intergrade.

    GOTY

  • +2

GOTY for me. Story and game play 10/10.

  • +1

This is bound to be an unpopular opinion but I am not a huge fan of Rebirth. Square have gone with a very Ubisoft-esque level design where each new area is cluttered with POI icons for a bunch of repetitive quests to busy yourself with. Finish a zone, go through a 1 hour story driven gameplay sequence and then rinse and repeat when a new part of the map opens up. To me it started getting boring once I reached the 3rd or 4th zone.

I preferred Remake’s game design to this. Definitely not my GOTY.

    • +1

      I agree completely…

FF7 just becomes another open world games with checkpoints to unlock the maps.

First 10 hours or so i get too distracted by the open world quests and it destroys the pacing of the story so now i just focus on the main quests.

      • Many reviews out there praise everything about the game but the open world aspect of this game.

Some reviews even suggeted to skip the exploring and focus on the main story line.

  • -2

hoping for 1-2 more years and it'll be under 30.

  • +3

Remake is one of those rare games that made the PS4 for me. (I had a smile and nostalgia trip experiencing the OG FFVII in an adapted form)

Will be playing Rebirth over the holidays.
Really hope it continues to better it.

    • +1

You're in for a treat mate

  • GOTY for sure
