Pilot Explorer Travel Fountain Pen $22.95 + Delivery ($0 with $99 Spend) @ Pulp Addiction

90

Came across these colourful lightweight Japanese fountain pens designed for travellers. Normally $32.95 (30% off).
Colours include metallic green, metallic pink, metallic electric blue, and metallic red. Needs Pilot ink cartridges.

Saw it mentioned on "Unexpected items that Travel Editors Always Pack" on the recent Qantas email.

If you like a quality writing pen, we bought these for our passport wallet, and loved them so much we bought some for home. FINE and MEDIUM nib sizes. They are very cool

  • Whate makes it a travel pen ? I prefer GEL for travel and use my fountain pen at home, so I'm curious.

yeah I have a Schaeffer which weighs twice as much as the Explorer. Maybe that's why?

Seems like its main feature is that it's very light (11.9g with the cap). Here is a review.

  • Apparently it's called PILOT lightive at home. "Light and active, ima carry it everywhere" sales pitch with a "new" inner cap design to prevent drying out. Unfortunately it's black in the demo, great otherwise..

Could be a great safari alternative.

Maybe but the Safari can be refilled as well as use cartridges. I use a Lamy Studio at home, I don't take the Studio when i travel (I have two) mainly becase sometimes I need to write on paper that's not suited to fountain pens.
