    1 Coin Battery

Nice. Shame you got to buy the other thing too. Kind of ruins the deal.

    • +9

You just need to purchase any $1 item to push it over $1000 to get $100 off with the code.

      • +79

But I only want the battery.

  • +23

Seems expensive for a battery but I guess the handheld is cool too.

    • +2

A new advertising psychology is born - you saw it here first!

  • +3

    So this or steam deck?

Both can run all the same games right?

    • +6

Steam Deck is Linux based while Legion Go is Windows based.
Legion can play far more games than the Steam Deck can.
In another post *on this Legion Go device, conemaskerk *stated they "Had one and returned it. The awful software ruined the experience for me and driver updates were non existent. I would avoid at all costs."
I too am struggling with the decision on which device to buy.

      • +3

Steam OS is now available on Legion.

      • +8

TBH Windows is the Achilles heel of these devices. If your game library can run on SteamOS, then you'll get a significantly better experience with it. As to whether or not it runs properly on the Legion Go, I couldn't say.

Have both a Steam Deck and an Ally Z1E. The Steam Deck is what I use to game, and the Ally is what I use to connect to a monitor and run Fusion360.

      • The software is fine, it's not great but it gets the job done. Tbh, I ignore the software and just use it when I need to change some settings, it's windows, launch steam and play games.

My friend has the steam deck, a lot harder to use Linux if your unfamiliar with it and the incompatibility problems. And the smaller screen and worst performance.

    • +3

The fact that you can run Bazzite OS on this and you basically have a much bigger steam deck make it very appealing IMO - as long as you weren't wanting an OLED SD because this isn't OLED. I have a mate who loves his.

    • +4

I have a legion, it works great and I can't fault it.

I've seen comments about awful software and such but not sure what the issue is. It runs windows, everyone knows what windows is. You open a game and it plays with no messing around with Configs because it runs windows…..

    • I was in JB and saw the Asus Ally and Legion Go. The screen is noticeably larger and a 16:10 aspect ration which helped the screen up nicely and looked really good to me. It might be heavy for extended periods.

I jumped on the Asus Ally deal from last week for $730. Hoping it's the z1 extreme otherwise I'll return it..

    • +4

What I personally did was buy a 2nd hand steam deck at a cheap price. ($400 for a 512GB LCD model about a week ago)

The main advantage with this is you'll be able to easily sell it for the same price if you feel it's not for you.

The main thing I don't like about it is that the screen isn't OLED. It's very, very noticeable in dark games.

Literally have no complaints about anything else, performance etc.

    • +3

I have both an Ally Z1E and a Steam Deck. It should be noted that Windows is like a boat anchor on these devices and has a bunch of overhead (especially RAM usage) that degrades the experience. There are a lot of games that will not run or are glitchy on the SD because of the Linux compatibility.
Ally looks and feels like a small laptop with a skin over the top of it. SD behaves much more like a Nintendo Switch.

    • The Lenovo screen is on balance worse than the Deck too. IPS @144hz vs OLED @ 90hz. Both aren't going to be reaching those refresh rates most of the time anyway, unless you are streaming.

Assuming you are buying the Deck OLED model, as the stock Deck display is pretty awful.

      • Although at last, linux drivers have caught up enough to compete (releatively) with there windows counterparts, the game developers support and extended enhancements/optimizations for windows is what still makes windows a better platform for gaming.

However having said that, the few games I buy now, are all natively supported on linux. And my retro gaming is all supported heavily on linux.

So I dual boot my pc into windows only when I am playing a game (via xbox live pass or whatever the (profanity) they call it these days).

However 90% of my boot ups are in linux.

It just comes down to people buying games for linux will increase the support for linux games been better supported.

For this reason alone, I'm looking at the steam deck. But, tbh I do like the ally x more.

EDIT: Whoops, responded to the wrong comment.

    • I would love to use Linux, but all the games are on Windows, so we need Windows.

      • +2

You can install bazzite which runs Steam Deck as an OS. You won't see some games that run EAC/Denuvo, but those are highlighted by Steam Deck compatibility.

You can use the steam store filters to show which games in your library will/won't work.

There's been great strides with Proton/Wine for game emulation on Linux, enough that most games below the AAA are fine on Steam Deck, and a lot above the AAA line too, i.e. Ubisoft/EA/Activision. Dual booting is often easy to switch with a reboot, video guides show the details on install and any loss/problems.

        • hmmm yeah I'm sure it's getting better, but most people don't want to mess around with dual booting, wine, and proton layers just to play what they want. I love Linux for the simplicity, but I still need Windows for most things arrrrrgh!!!!!

          • +3

@9hundred: Really depends on your gaming vs work balance. I can run Stremio and Steam, CEMU, etc. There is very little to configure in Steam Deck to get games to run. If you haven't seen bazzite, check a video review on the Legion Go so you can see side-by-side boot/game benchmarks.

I have a phone for most media, and other tablets for reading, scrolling, etc. I do have dual-boot. I just don't think i've switched back that often, as I don't need to. 90% of games i'd want to play are couch games or short-run / distraction games, sic.

Once Bazzite is installed, it boots right into Steam Deck. You don't see linux again until there's an update. It boots straight into games in ~20-40 seconds from power off, and resumes in about 2-10 seconds.

The advantage of Bazzite is the SteamOS and Steam Deck functionality i.e. sleep/resume and the shader preloading that helps with avoiding stutter.

I looked at the reviews and features before jumping in, but the advantages outweigh the issues i.e. losing AMD FSR3 and frame generation (sic) on a handful of games vs sleep/resume and fast boot. and having to enter in the PIN to unlock windows every time you put it down and pick it up.

I would like to agree with whoever said that the overhead of windows is a major drag of an anchor on system resources for things like these protable pc's. And that linux is waaaay better for it. Again, it comes down to specific game optimzations and unfortunately, linux isn't as well loved by developers as windows.

I bought a Steam Deck last Xmas, and it's been bloody fantastic!

You can check your library's compatibility on ProtonDB before biting the bullet. I don't play many triple-A titles, so I don't know how well supported most are. I know from using my desktop Linux machine, that most COD titles don't work on Linux.

I play Diablo 4 each season, and I haven't had any issues (except for some frame-dropping which is a common issue on all machines since the DLC launched), and I just read last week that Baldurs Gate 3 celebrated 17 cumulative hours played on Steam Decks.

The general rule I've seen is, if the game is made with Unreal 5, Godot, or even Unity, then the game should either run natively, or cooperate nicely with Proton's Wine configuration.

      • 17 cumulative hours

        Damn that’s crazy.

        • It's meant to be 17 million , but it's way more fun as it is, given the hype.

Turn-based / strategy games (pokemon, civ 6, etc) does well on a casual handheld / phone format as long as the visuals are compelling. It helped sell a ton of Nintendo Switches in the day. Mostly because you could play for 10-20 minutes on a train/bus, put it on pause, come back in 5 hours, etc.

        • +1

Haha! Woops, I forgot the million.

          Thanks for pointing that out.

  • +3

Nice, I needed a coin battery.

  • If you guys have access to 3% ebay GC from Macquarie, this brings total wallet damage down to $892.59

  • +1

Still the most versatile device out of the big three.

Great if you're experienced with Windows. Not so great if you're after a console-like experience out of the box.

Get rid of Legion Space and install Handheld Companion + Playnite.

  • How is the touch pad on this compared to the Steam Deck? It's really the only reason I would stick to Steam Deck as it helps me stream my big computer to my Steam Deck and switch from mouse to gamepad.

    • +1

maybe good enough for moving the cursor but not big enough for gaming

    • -2

one runs a custom version of linux, the other runs windows just need to keep that in mind.

      • +2

question was not about the OS, but about the touchpad.

  • Much better than Steam Deck

Zen 2 is nothing compared to Zen 4

  • -1

    sold out :(

    • Just added and went all the way to pay button…

    • ahh they won't post to Adelaide

    • Still available but delivery excludes certain areas (ie. Adelaide Metro)

  • PLUS120 and SNSM11 works for this item and is eligible for all ebay customers, not just ebay plus

    • +1

PLUS120 - T&Cs mentions all eBay Customer, but it's eBay Plus only (as per PLUS in the code)

SNSM11 - T&Cs mentions all eBay Plus Customer, but it's a targeted code (ie. I have eBay Plus and the code is not valid)

      • Nope. There is no mention of it being ebay plus customers only in the PLUS120 T&Cs. It explicitly says all eBay customers regardless of the usual norm of having PLUS* in ebay plus only codes

Eligibility. This offer is available to all eBay customers

Perhaps someone without ebay plus can confirm/deny if the code works or not?

Below is an example of an ebay plus only code like REFRB

Eligibility. This offer is available to select eBay Plus members only.

Edit SNSM11 is ebay plus only

Eligibility. This offer is available to all eBay Plus customers.

        • +1

I can confirm PLUS120 doesn't work for non eBay plus members so OP is right.
Maybe they fixed the T&Cs between your post and now but it now says "Eligibility. This offer is available to all eBay Plus members."

As for SNSM11, I was able to use it without a Plus account.

My best guess is the T&Cs are weird at the moment and we shouldn't rely on them too much for now.

  • +7

How many hours of gameplay with the coin battery?

    • +2

A few weeks in a Digimon.

  • +4

I don't get why some Australian stores wont ship something like this Australia wide..
Most major postal services like Aus post are flat rate no matter where they're going.

    • +1

      Yeah it’s a joke
Would of jumped on this instantly otherwise

      • I can buy the ninja ice cream maker from them, but not this.
        It's crazy!

  • +5

    $750 PS5: too expensive

    $900 gameboy colour: nice deal!

    • +3

the game boy comes with a screen!

  • Not sure how low this can go on the marketplace.

  • Sound tip.

Change the sound profile. The default one is terrible.

I think some reviewers didn't realise this. It's that bad.

  • so how to buy it if located in excluded zones? i.e. Australian Capital Territory?

    • as shit as it sounds, Click & Collect in a Sydney store :/

    • +1

The only way I can see you doing this is at checkout:

      • Change the delivery address in checkout to one in a permitted area (e.g. Sydney).
      • Choose Click & Collect instead of Postage, and then enter a relevant postcode (e.g. 2609).
      • Choose a Bing Lee store in your area with stock. (The Belconnen store is out of stock, but there appears to be stock at the Fyshwick store.)

I suspect the issue with this approach is that any tax invoices may use this delivery address, rather than the billing address.

      • +2

thx so helpful, saved me a trip to Sydney

  • Given the delivery exclusions include most of the country, it might be worth putting the inclusions in the title, which looks like just Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

How easy is it to play Epic and GOG store games off the Go?

As we all know epic and gog give away free games weekly and I would like to play them and wondering if the Legion Go can do this with ease?

Also, how does it go playing Fortnite? My Mrs currently plays it on her Switch and it’s a bad experience compared to my daughter who plays on the Xbox series S and me on the PS5

    • Should be the same performance spec as the RoG Ally X. As long as you open up the UMA or VRAM split to 4 GB, it should be good. There's often some performance differences between 4GB and 6GB, so it's often easier to leave it at 4GB until you have issues.

      https://legiongolife.com/fortnite-legion-go-game-settings/

      • -1

Will it run and look Fortnite good? I know better then the switch version but not as good a series S?

    • It should all depends on the games itself.

Unlike Steamdeck, Legion Go is already running windows so there are no tinkering needed to run games launched/sold through non-Steam stores.

GOG games are preferred though as they are DRM-free and you have better assurance that they will run on the Go while you are away from home with no internet.

      • -2

I’m really wanting it to be able to run Fortnite well for the Mrs that way she is happy and I get to have one

        • -2

ffs there are so many gameplay videos of Fortnite on the Legion Go already, surely a YouTube search wouldn't be too difficult?

  • i want to use this to play FC25 and MS Flight Sim…

    • Me too. Will it work well?

  • Is it better to get this (or Rog Ally) and then run Bazzite, or get Steam OS and dual-boot windows?

My use case is that I most of my windows games are outside the steam store

    • If most of your games are outside of steam then either windows handheld probably will make more sense for you.
Epic and GOG reportedly work OK through launchers such as heroic launcher, but you'd still be taking a gamble on compatibility, especially for multi-player games if you're into that.

      • -1

So the Epic and GOG launches work perfect on the LeGO as it runs windows correct?

Sorry I don’t have a PC so just making sure 👍

        • Ye that's right, forgot to mention in the last comment but I was talking about steamOS. Anything that's runs on windows will work great of the LeGO since it's just a windows PC. It's the steam deck that requires more consideration.
          Hope that helps!

  • This or ROG ally deal?

    • You want the LeGo if you want that ginormous screen but the Ally is better in every other way. IMO. Software, comfort, weight.

  • Seems to be lots of postal restrictions, will they post to Far Kew in the outer suburbs of Melbourne?

  • +1

Lenovo have dropped the price to $999 on their eBay store.

I would HODL until at least Friday.

  • Topcashback for today brings the Legion Go down to $839.16.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/877506

  • Thoughts on whether to jump on this today or wait until actual Black Friday next week?
