Got My White Hachiko Foldable Bike Stolen

Parked my white bike outside of North Sydney station yesterday afternoon, safely locked with my bike lock to the circle rack and it’s gone now..

Just in case..
it was a White Hachiko foldable bike 20inch ..
white frame and white wheels..
Model HA-04

I wonder police can ever find it… just told me to search Gumtree or Facebook.. hope any OP can help me to spot it 😱 please.

Thank you all

  • I'll keep an eye out for it in Victoria.

    white frame and white wheels..

    Reminds me of this

      I'll keep an eye out

they couldn't have got far, it has no peddles

      • +1

they couldn't have got far, it has no peddles

Yeah, I agree, the bike is definitely not worth peddling. Who would buy a bike like that?! It's missing pedals too!

    • +3

I found your bike, OP. @MS Paint stole it. Even has a picture of it!

Hi thank you first of all where did you spot it sorry? I googled but cant find it

        • It was a joke, I haven’t seen it.

      • +4

This is my drawing of it. White bike with white accessories on a white background.

        • +1

          Some of your best work.

        • +1

What a bike to steal, it screams look at me, intelligence of a thief.

    • Yes that’s the correct model thanks mate..

  • +19

Someone’s probably taking it down the “bike lane” past a prang as we speak…

  • just told me to search gumtree or facebook

    Did they mention Ozbargain?

    • OP should go to Reddit or Whirpool, they got bigger audience.

  • +3

What type of lock were you using?

  • +7

As you're posting on ozbargain I'm guessing you don't have insurance, rest assured you've come to the right place to find a good deal on a replacement.

  • +3

Probably good idea to hide a smart tag on it

  • Shoulda claimed TRS on it as loss protection

  • +6

    If you haven't already:

    • set up a watch on Gumtree, eBay, market place
    • post in community groups with a photo
    • find a lost bike groups on Facebook
    • post to property vault
    • set alerts on Ozbargain to find a new bike
    • Thank you

    • +1

he will be able to find a suitable replacement on gum-tree or Facebook, might be lucky and find an exact match.

      • +1

If he finds an exact match he should ask for a test ride and avoid leaving collateral

        • BYO peddals

safely locked with my bike lock

To quote Douglas Adams, this is clearly some new definition of "safely" I haven't previously encountered.

    • +1

Yeah I learned the same way as OP that bike locks don't safely secure a bike…. I wrote-off my car so bought a brand new bike. Locked it up at the train station the first day, when I returned in the evening it was gone.

      • Rule number one for bike locks. Its secure if there is a less secure lock next to it.

Rule noumber one for bikes that are locked unattended: dont get a nice looking one.

  • just told me to search gumtree or facebook..

They are flat out finding stolen cars worth tens of thousands of dollars, let alone a bike…

    • +4

More like flat out trying to find reasons to fine drivers of cars worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Unless by absolute accident, the only stolen cars police find are those reported as dumped or are in some other way unusual by the public.

      • +5

True story. A work colleague has his car stolen from his driveway. Reported to police. Then he logged in to service NSW or something and saw he had a fine for illegal parking. Guess where the car was?
        Cops couldn't even do that….

    • +3

Bicycle theft is not a joke, Gordon. Millions of families suffer every year.

    • +2

I'm sorry but registration plates aren't aero.

    • +8

Rego, CTP and encouraging comprehensive insurance sounds like a good idea but what we really need is a program to get cyclists off their bikes and into Ford raptors. Maybe a levy to bring the cost of bicycle ownership more in line with motor vehicles.

Vehicles taking up more space and queuing like everyone else is the only fair solution to traffic problems.

      • +3

We can't have people on their pushbikes running innocent Ranger Raptor drivers off the road. Won't somebody think of the tradies!

    • I don't think it's funny, not laughing… Just saying…

    • +2

But the flip side of the coin of not having registration or registration plates is anyone can nick one, and get away with it.

I don't get the logic. Cars have registration plates, yet get stolen all the time, never to be seen again.

      • Maybe they're thinking of VINs. Introducing BINs might make a marginal difference.

        • Most likely just a grumpy middle aged man who's angry at the world and likes to take that anger out on cyclists, electric cars, Chinese products and renewable energy. Quite sad.

    • -2

You got 16 negs for your opinions, but I agree with the facts you mention.

      • +3

        There weren't any facts mentioned.

        • -1

These are what I was referring to. I don't think they're disputed.

Bicycle riders don't want registration plates
          (and the example provided)

not having registration or registration plates is anyone can nick one, and get away with it

          • @SlickMick:

Bicycle riders don't want registration plates

But its not for the reasons outlined. Its not 'to get away with breaking the law'. Rego plates and licences dont stop motorists breaking the law do they? There is little difference between a police officer stopping a car and stopping a bicycle. 'BuT CaMErAs!'. No, cameras are laregly used for speeding, phone use and now seatbelts - not applicable cycling offences. OK, red light cameras - but these a few and far between and the cyclists have a big reason to take red lights seriously and that is personal consequence of death.

Cyclists dont want rego plates because its a waste of money for society. It provides absolutely minimal benefits and would cost a fortune to implement.

    • +2

Im sure removing a rego plate off a bike is beyond all bike thief's abilities. Lets implement it.

    • Based on this post I'm certain I'm morally superior to you (you find it amusing someone had something stolen), as well as intellectually superior too (you shot yourself in the foot with that last comment).

I also suspect I'm a superior cyclist (this one is actually because I sometimes ride a bicycle).

The problem one has as an inferior person is that almost everyone is better than them, and so they cling on to what they see as different to explain other people's "arrogance." Sadly, people aren't being arrogant if they are just able to identify you for what you are early on.

  • Is there security footage in that spot?

  • -1

I think I saw a few of those bikes at the circus.

  • -1

Theft is everywhere, just part of life, that's why there is insurance, or own nothing that is worth stealing…

  • Next time, hide an AirTag somewhere (under seat, bottom bracket). Good luck with finding it.

    • +1

      In the tyres.

  • Do a police report at a few stations with details. You never know your luck.
I had an unusual distinctive bike stolen from my garage a few years ago when I accidentally left the door open, and much to my surprise the police called me a few weeks later to say they had found it at a house a few suburbs away with some other stolen stuff, and I got it back

I have no idea how they connected it to my report but somehow a star aligned somewhere

And in future don't leave any bike locked up anywhere that you are not prepared to lose.

  • Hopefully someone will find it and hand it in. In the past 5 years ive found 6 items handed them in to the police. The local Police officer dropped it off a few months later as it wasnt claimed.

  • safely locked with my bike lock to the circle rack and it’s gone now

This is an oxymoron. There is no such thing as "safely locked" in public. Especially for hours outside a major train station, unless it's in a secured cage.

If you were using a bicycle lock that was anywhere short of what is used to secure a motorcycle, it can be broken.

The whole idea of a folding bike is that your ride it to the station, you fold it and carry it into the train, and then you store it at work or wherever the other end is. They fold exactly so you don't need to leave them sitting out on the street for hours.

  • Don't forget to also watch the police auctions, just because you reported it doesn't mean the dots will be automatically joined if they recover it in a haul of other stolen goods.

  • +1

Why didn't you take it to your meeting/date, etc., with you?
