Half-Life Alyx

Half-Life: Alyx is Valve’s VR return to the Half-Life series. It’s the story of an impossible fight against a vicious alien race known as the Combine, set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Playing as Alyx Vance, you are humanity’s only chance for survival.

Half-Life

Named Game of the Year by over 50 publications, Valve's debut title blends action and adventure with award-winning technology to create a frighteningly realistic world where players must think to survive. Also includes an exciting multiplayer mode that allows you to play against friends and enemies around the world.

Half-Life: Opposing Force

Return to the Black Mesa Research Facility as one of the military specialists assigned to eliminate Gordon Freeman. Experience an entirely new episode of single player action. Meet fierce alien opponents, and experiment with new weaponry. Named 'Game of the Year' by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.

Half-Life: Blue Shift

Made by Gearbox Software and originally released in 2001 as an add-on to Half-Life, Blue Shift is a return to the Black Mesa Research Facility in which you play as Barney Calhoun, the security guard sidekick who helped Gordon out of so many sticky situations.

  • Wasn't the original Half Life free earlier today?

      Thanks! Almost finished watching this.
I can’t remember most of the game now but this has given me flashbacks of a lot of it.
What I do recall was that it blew my mind from early on and then at the end I recall thinking I’ve just finished the most amazing game I’d ever played!

Shall I wait for Steam Autumn Sale (major seasonal sale): November 27 - December 4?

Nah, these seem to be about all-time lows anyway so might as well grab them now if you don't have them already

For those who can't be bothered with VR (like me), I can personally recommend the Half-Life Alyx No VR mod - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-qhAKlIxtM

I mean at that point just watch the youtube completion videos for the story. The game was made for VR and will feel slow and boring on flatscreen.

"The game was made for VR"

Doesn't mean it won't be fun not on VR.

  • Still lobbying to celebrate 20th anniversary of 'Counter Strike: Source' this month - why has valve / steam given no love for this child?!
Rated 10/10 on steam and 95% on Google and arguably one of the best lan games of its time… and turned 20 in the shadows this month.

Perhaps they will wait until the 25th Anniversary of Counter Strike itself next year then put the whole CS family on a celebration promo.
Can't believe it is this old - a 25 year old shooter game back on Counter Strike's release would have been on an arcade machine like 'Gun Fighter' - the first game to use a CPU and one of few at the time with music:

I am halfway through alyx (VR)

Word of warning, it is a strong horror game, and not just a shooter. Think zombies in the dark with a torch light and flesh spiders. VR is truely incredible and worthwhile just for the experience and detail but i wouldnt play it without VR, as story is somewhat lacklustre.

  • Apparently Half-Life Alyx sets the bar in terms of vr experiences.

    • The vindication of the ending alone is worth the price
