      • +1

        i ozb and drive.

    • can i get a lift?

    • In the ozbargain organge with the signatire finger and hole gesture

  • +17

    scam.

Spend your time and money elsewhere to you want to build wealth.

    • +8

      someone missed the boat

      • +17

I didnt miss the property boat though from before 2010s

you really think this event is aimed to help people?

They originally charged people to attend but now are giving tickets away.

Their aim is to get you in and get you in "invest" and charge you for fees and services.

        • +2

Jv is smarter than that. He will demand free bitcoin and negotiate a deal with Satoshi Nakamoto for 99.9% off one bitcoin per ozbargainer

        • +2

Ha, the irony. Calling crypto a scam when the housing market is a ponzi scheme heavily subsidised by the government. Property in Australia is the biggest scam in the country ever and it isn't close. Anyone with basic understanding of economics can come to this conclusion.

          • +1

@CatalystX: Anyone with a basic understanding of economics knows to almost completely disregard a lot of its principles in the real world - especially if spoken by an economist.

            • +1

@niknikniknik: Don't understand what point you're making here. Disregarding basic economic principles still doesn't deny the fact that the housing market is a ponzi. The only people who disagree with that statement are boomers/millennials who were able to buy a house at the same price as a car in 2024.

            • @niknikniknik: Of course a true economist believes that to bring down inflation people need to be sacked thereby more homeless and unemployed pn the streets

          • @CatalystX: How is it subsidised by the government.

            • +1

@cheesusme: Plenty Tax benefits, First home buyers grants, housing assistance programs, Mass immigration to put pressure on demand, billions of dollars being spent on ā€œbuilding new homesā€. Thereā€™s is way more but thatā€™s all i could think of for now.

              • @CatalystX: In a republican state like the us i would beelive they wont have any of that

                • @cheesusme: Key word i said earlier is ā€œheavilyā€. Of course itā€™s subsidised in the US as well but no country subsidies the housing market more than Australia. Think about it, if itā€™s not, then why does the government let foreigners especially from China buy property while the Australia is dealing with the worst housing crisis ever? If they cared about their citizens, they would ban Chinese millionaires/billionaires to buy stupid amounts of property to cut down demand. Why else would they allow this? Obviously to keep pressure on the demand aspect and they donā€™t wont money leaving the country. So rather let them buy property even if itā€™s at the expense of their own citizens from ever owning a house

          • +2

@CatalystX: So true. When you're buying bitcoin you're buying something real, something that inherently has some value and is made for the future.

What are you going to do with a house? That's just purely conceptual, there's no actual value there. If it all goes to zero you end up with nothing.

Anyone with basic understanding of economics can come to this conclusion. šŸ¤”

            • @DingoBilly: You can be sarcastic all you want, but buying bitcoin retired me and my family. Whether you like it or not, the returns are superior, you canā€™t deny that. But dont worry I was the same as you, talking shit about crypto in my days. And then one day I put my pride to the side and now I have time to try convince people like you to maybe put a bit of time into seeing the space. Instead of acting out of pure ignorance without knowing a single thing about how crypto operates. Maybe youā€™ll learn something :)

          • @CatalystX: lemme guess you invested in crypto instead of a house deposit?

            • -1

@Ham Dragon: Yea, the smartest decision I ever made. I made millions of dollars and retired my bloodline at 25 years old. If I ever listened to the boomers on website, I would have taken a 1.2 million dollar loan for a dogbox in west sydney and be a slave for the rest of my life working at my miserable 9 to 5 job. Similar to what most people my age do which makes me feel bad for them, but happens when youā€™re a sheep and listen to people who donā€™t know how to make money

              • +2

@CatalystX: Good for you mate. Nice to hear someone made some money out of crypto, I certainly didn't. I wonder where the roughly 5k I invested (lost) ended up?

                • @Ham Dragon: The 99 P.C. make a loss and the top of the Pyramid make the money, like Multi-Level Marketing.
A lot more money is involved though.
Yes, Trumpee may help this for a few, but don't rely on it.

                  • @marcozmitch: No of course not, I followed a few friends and had a punt and it didn't turn out, but that's all good, I did pretty good out of property purchased pre COVID so no complaints.

                • +1

@Ham Dragon: The issue is, is that you probably bought crypto when everyone was talking about in 2021. After bitcoin jumped from like 10k to 69k. Thatā€™s not how you invest. You do the opposite.

                  • @CatalystX: Yes I followed some friends into it, the ups & downs of the bull run were exciting but I'm not bitter about losing a few grand, it was fun but I'll stick to poker machines if I feel like gambling again.

              • @CatalystX: where are you now dude?

        • They originally charged people to attend but now are giving tickets away

Should've gone to Specsavers, huh? Binance are sponsoring the event, so they've obviously still got a bunch of tickets they can give out freely. Your argument would be valid if it was the Cryptocon clown show organisers.

    • all the crypto trillionaires negged you, have a +

    • +4

Some people have made significant wealth out of crypto for years despite similar warnings.

      • +15

The number of people who've gotten rich is far FAR outweighed by the number of people who've lost everything…

It's almost like the former got rich at the expense of the latter…

        • For an asset that has increased in price incrementally? That's just poor/emotional trading.

I'll acknowledge that some people have suffered with their trades and I genuinely feel bad for them.

But crypto per se hasn't been the problem. It's generally that people have invested more than they could afford to lose.

Potentially it could all go to zero tomorrow. On the flipside it could be 5x or more within a year or two. Who knows?

        • +5

You can apply that to almost any investment vehicle. The whole purpose is to buy something early and sell it later for more. Same goes for housing, stocks and commodities.

        • Got any stats on this? Because it makes no sense to me for an asset class that has grown in value exponentially.

        • Malone Lam agrees.

    • The "where" doesn't really matter imo, and pretty much everything is a scam. Once you understand the flow of money in the markets, market cycles and risk appetite, you can build wealth in any market. Crypto follows the same cycle as stocks, it just moves faster in bigger percentages.

      • +1

Investing in crypto is fine but you need to go to a dodgy ponzi scheming conference to benefit from it.

  • +3

guessing I cannot pay for this in cash…

  • SYD - 23-24 November.

  • +26

    Cryptocon

Well, got to give them props for being honest…..

The fact crypto conferences like this, still don't accept crypto payments for their attendance fees.

    chefs kiss

    • Depends on the event. International crypto events accept crypto as payment. Paid for one recently using crypto to attend token2049 in Dubai.

  • +2

Better hand these out to the homeless

  • +5

Im going for the freebies and hopefully win a prize lol

  • +3

Be careful with binance. My details got leaked through their platform. They claimed they didnt get breached but the scam call i got proves they did

    • -3

You dont have to signup to binance. The free tickets are sponsored by them

      • +8

Of course they are going to sponsor it so they can get you in the door and try to leech your money.

        Common sense mate.

        • If someone is dumb enough to let Binance leech their money, they deserve to lose it and are probably in the wrong building to begin with.

          • @KangaDrew: Harsh but fair

          • @KangaDrew: Some people are also easy marks or can be manipulated, (particularly if there is "free" alcohol)…

      • +1

So you think the sponsor wouldn't have access to your data? Bro you are too cute

  • +1

Annoying that the šŸ³ tickets are all sold out.

    • Gonna do a dodgy and try sneak in

  • +5

No harm in turning up if you want to learn more and get free stuff.

Beware of charlatans. But you can say that about any conference.

  • Where is this?

  • +1

I got 9999 peanuts to give out to yall at the event

    • +2

      Dropping them from the air?

    • +2

Can you please write up one of your glorious ISP Peanut Airdop guides for us? :-)

  • +4

    Wow, AWESOME speakers and presentations!!!

    https://auscryptocon.eventsair.com/auscryptocon2024/speakers

    • They got Alfred (Michael Caine)!

  • +2

@scotty, any chance for a suprise appearance with free ozbargain tshirts

  • +2

    Crypto Con

  • +3

What I found amusing is the price of the ticket stated in Australian dollars and not in bitcoin or another cryptocurrency.

    • +1

They tried asking for 1 Ethereum but no one was interested. Hence had to drop that idea.

  • +1

Wear some good sunnies incase you get retina damage like that NFT festival

    • As long as it's not lasers from the eyes, we good.

  • +1

Oh, the irony of the name!
Was this deliberate like the poor spelling and grammar in scam emails/texts to deter the more intelligent from wasting the scammers' time?
    OR
Was this some sort of Freudian slip?

  • Any free food or drinks provided?

    • +1

Cmon man, it's crypto. Nothing's free.

  • Crypto is gambling prove me wrong

    • +2

      People have different perspectives.

Investing if you buy and forget it for years … Like those early BTC adopters.

Someone got rich from playing games and got free BTC faucets in early days …

Someone lost a hard drive with BTC worth multiple millions $ because wife accidentally had thrown it away …

Someone bought pizza with 10k BTC in early days …

  • +2

Cryptocon organisers couldn't organise a fk in a monkey whorehouse with a fist full of bananas! These clowns don't update their website with an agenda until literally the last couple of weeks before the convention, and even now, there are still a bunch of "to be announced" sessions with nothing booked in. They copy and paste sections of the website to fill it up with nonsense and when you reach out to them on their own OZB post or on X seeking additional information… crickets.

    Amateur hour indeed.

  • Lol somewhat curious but this just… doesn't look good. At all. Heh.

  • +1
  • Binance founder is getting arrested and here we have people endorsing them lmao

Bet they had their money in FTX too

    • I didn't neg you.

He's still extremely very very rich, even later after he get out of jail in only few years …

      • +1

who cares the people who negged me thought Sam Fraudman-fried was a genius

        • End up in jail is really super awful. He should just stick with btc arbitrage.

      • -1

Billionairs dont go to jail. They get house arrest , and are able to payoff a few officers to deactivate the ankle monitor when they need to

    • Unfortunately the world has changed with the re-election of felon Trump.

Even if you have a criminal record but can show you have that passion to fight for a community, you can still make it to the top.

  • Not sure whether it still works but COINJARATH was valid at least a few days ago for free entry too.

  • Modern-day bridge sellers.

    • How about selling OZB coins for discounts and cashback :P Shopback be like ….

  • +1

I held Verge coin from $10,000 to $1.7 million then to zero. All because I didn't want to pay 44% in taxes and tried to make it to 1 year mark so I get a 50% tax discount.

    • I know the feeling …

Sell some gains like a quarter is better than late/can't sell …

      • So, you have been to Coogee Beach cliff and contemplated jumping off too. Hehehehe. Dark joke I know but it was a dark time.
