    Chemist Warehouse is a massive company that buys products in bulk at much cheaper wholesale rates. The more they purchase, the lower the cost per item, which allows them to offer big discounts like 50% off.

    For example, when I purchase EcoStore Laundry Liquid Sensitive 1L, I pay $8.75 each and sell them for $10.99. As you can see, my profit margin on EcoStore products is very small. On top of that, when you factor in the packaging, box costs, and other expenses, it really makes me question whether it’s even worth stocking them. But I continue to offer these products because I use them myself, and many people with fragrance sensitivities benefit from them.

    Big sales at places like Chemist Warehouse are often a marketing strategy. Customers may come in for a discounted item, but they end up buying more, which helps cover the cost of the discount. While Chemist Warehouse can afford to cut prices, small businesses like mine struggle because we don’t have the same buying power. I’m not a large corporation with a warehouse—-I run my business from home. This pricing strategy, or possibly special deals with suppliers like EcoStore, makes it even harder for small businesses like mine to stay afloat.

    I started my business to help people with fragrance sensitivity and multiple chemical sensitivity. I do my best to pack every order in non-fragrant packaging to avoid triggering sensitivities, which isn’t always the case in larger stores with fragrant environments.

    Feel free to shop wherever you feel comfortable, but just know that these large discounts are part of a bigger picture making it harder for small businesses like mine to survive.

    Thanks for your feedback. Please refer to the comment above. As I mentioned, you're welcome to shop elsewhere. I am closing my business for a reason, and this is part of it. As a sole trader, I simply can't afford to purchase quantities in massive bulk like bigger companies that benefit from cheaper wholesale prices. Additionally, it could be a marketing tactic, as explained above.
