Great game if you've never played it before

Would you still rec. it for someone who would only be able to play single player / I assume a campaign?

      • +2

The game is a 'live service' from what I understand. You have to be connected 'at all times' to play it.
You can play alone and the game 'scales' the difficulty, there is definitely still people around you can play with.

      • It's still fun as a solo experience. Playing through it during the height of Covid was so eerie

      • for someone who would only be able to play single player

Yes, absolutely, 100%. It's really good fun. You need an internet connection to play though.

I really enjoyed this game and for $6.74 it is a bargain. The Dystopian New York city the game developers created is amazing. There is a great book detailing all the concept art that went into its creation called The Art of Tom Clancy's The Division by Paul Davies. Most people won't notice the work that went into this game, but if you really look it is a gorgeous dystopian city landscape, which you can walk around for days and always discover something new.

Also lookout for The Division 2, which is even better, set in Washington DC from memory, you will see it pop up on steam or ubisofts site for under $15.00 now and again.

      Div2 currently $14.98 right now ;)

Division 2 is 15 bucks atm.

Remember how when this came out there was outrage due to misleading graphics… then it became kinda awesome. You look at some of the dross that comes out now.. “maybe we treated you too harshly”.

  • Which expansions should we get aswell?

Survival is ranked highly but Last Stand is rated very poorly. Underground has mixed reviews.

    • +3

Survival is awesome. Underground is ok. Last stand is meh.

  • The reveal trailer for this game was something else or what, it painted a picture of a similar reality. Is ubisoft going the route where we are forced to use thier launcher?

I'd skip this if new to division and get number 2. Which you'll sink lots of hours into

Both good. Depends if you want NY or DC setting.

Sour milk or soyboys.. Tough choice.

        • +2

Look I’m a fan of the new regime as much as the next guy, but those cities are pretty cool regardless of your political position.

          • -5

@EitherWayUp: MSM will tell you "the next guy" is probably a democrap. But I have to disagree with you.

NYC is really terrible and has been terrible since the 90's/00's. Sour milk, rats, garbage and persecution for defending self and others.

DC is just DC. Nothing much's changed in the last few decades. It's cool if you like your US history, but not cool otherwise. It does have 1 thing going for it, the walls work in DC.. but not at the border. 🙃

  • Great game, well worth a few bucks if you haven't played it before.

I found it a bit stupid. Bullet sponge is insane in the game and playing in PVP the bots spawns back quickly at exactly the same spots. Apart from this it is nice but the bullet sponge is just insane.note, played this years ago (also Division 2) so not sure if there was a change

Upvoted your neg because this is exactly the experience i had.

  • Gold edition worth getting?

  • +3

was this given away for free on epic or ubisoft before?

  • +3

The weekly “maintenance” (was our Thursday night) is a tough pill to swallow… not sure if that’s still the case. Great game otherwise.

    • Tuesday late evening now.

  • can you play single payer?

    • Yes. Worth it just for that alone. Mindful itnis just going around on the map doing things, not exactly an end to end story.

Double check your Ubisoft Connect account before buying. Ubisoft gave this out for free back in 2020: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/562765

  • This game is such a grind

  • Frigging crazy… this pre-empted the Pandemic.

    • No doubt inspired by Contagion which was right on the money back in 2011.

The Division is great, but I prefer Tom Clancy's Joy Division and their hit single, "Bombs will tear us apart again".

  • Is the game still active? It’s quite an old online service game. A bit unfair to recommend to people if the game is basically dead, and from memory you really need a squad for this game to work properly.

I played it when It first came out, was fun if people played it “properly”. But of course it devolved into griefing and speed running loot box routes. I got over it quickly.

    • I have same question. I played on PS and feel it was great game. Then when it was discounted in PC 4 years ago, I play again and feel like some of the game features has been removed.
The one that I remember was no matter what backpack you use, it will show the same. When you met rogue, you have no idea what their build and what to counter.

  • This felt dead back when i tried to play it years ago. Wouldnt recommend for $6 with the back catalogue everyone likely has.

  • This was an incredible game when it came out.

Running in the Dark Zone with a full squad was some of the best fun I've had in online gaming.
