  • No free shipping this time around…

    • $30 to me, saves me worrying about fitting it in the car, I imagine the bike box isn't small

  • +5

    Very good deal.

Lots of people pay 500+ for an old roadbike on gumtree where likely hubs, tyres etc might need replacement within some months. Better go for this one and nothing to fix for a couple of 1000 kms

  • says it's 1100 to me

    • +1

Add it to cart and price changes at checkout

$230 delivery to WA. Better be sure you have the right size!

    • They’re treating you like you’ve already federated as an independent country!

      • +1

They should give a GST revenue share rebate!

  • Bought 2 of these in the last deal. For some reason it gives me an error this time in the checkout when I try to load delivery options.

    • Happy with the first two?

      • One of them has an issue with the thread for the stem bolts which means it hasn't been able to be ridden. I've been waiting on a call from decathlon for the whole week, but need to follow up again since they were supposed to call on Wednesday. Haven't had a chance to ride the other one other than just a small test ride around the block. All seems good with it

        • Good feedback.
So that was discovered on assembly and the handlebars wouldn’t attach to the stem?
Seems relatively minor, hopefully all else is well constructed - haven’t personally ever spent this much on a bike before

          • +1

@Hoju: Correct. Definitely a minor issue and absolute worst case I could buy a new stem, but I'm hoping it gets resolved relatively easily. From the correspondence I've had with them so far it's looking likely that I'll just have to send back the stem piece rather than the whole bike which would be a pain to get to the post office.

    FYI OP,

Probably add this to the main post as there were a lot discussions in the previous deal post:

  • No shipping option appears for SA metro, only Click & Collect.

  • Any stand out deals on mountain bikes?

    • +1

I’m wondering the same. This is on special but no idea if it’s any good https://www.decathlon.com.au/p/rockrider-st-530-mountain-bik…

      $799 down to $450… subtract 20% = $360 if my maths right

      • Surprisingly good - for the money - decent hydraulic brakes and drivetrain. With a 42 tooth first gear, you're not going to climb super steep hills, Or pull up nicely going down them if you're fast or heavy with 2-pot brake callipers. The 80mm coil forks are pretty ordinary for soaking up trail chatter. But for the price, it's great value for rail trails, bike paths or fire roads, and it will cope with a little light cross country service - looks like it has a 'narrow-wide' chainring to help with chain retention when your route gets a bit rough. It's not going to win XC races, unlike Rockrider's pro racing team has been doing on their top-end carbon machines, but for $450 it'll get you to most places you'd expect to ride.

        • +1

Thanks for taking the time to review that! How does it compare to the next model up for an extra $80? https://www.decathlon.com.au/p/rockrider-st-540-mountain-bik…

          • @CloudB: No problem, CB! It's a toss-up - pros & cons with bikes built to a budget.

While the 540 has a slightly better 100mm coil fork with 20mm more travel than the the 530, it compromises with a 'two-by' drivetrain - that is, a front derailleur switching between two front chainrings to get a wider gear range out of the smaller range 11-36 tooth cassette. The 540 has gone for a downmarket Altus rear derailleur, from a line of components Shimano has killed off to be replaced with the Cues product line that will be largely 'one-by' drivetrains with just the one chainring up front (like the excellent entry-level Microshift Advent 9-speed kit on the 530).

Just comparing the component specs now, I read that the 530 specifies Hayes m-x5 brakes, which are mechanical cable disc brakes, even though the pictures show Tektro hydraulic brakes (a set that look better than those on the 540). If you live near a Decathlon, you might want to check out what brake actually comes with the 530 - a phone call to the bike section might do the trick. If the 530 comes with the hydraulic brakes shown in the pics, I'd lean towards the 530 as the 'one-by' Microshift is a nice bit of kit for the money. If the 2cm travel premium of the 540 knocks the 530 out for you, FB marketplace has many decent air forks sold by people who have upgraded their suspension, often without riding their new MTB! That upgrade would be cheaper than buying the 540 and upgrading the drivetrain to a wide-range 'one-by' setup. Good luck with your quest!

  • That's a real deal. Wonder if this bike or road bike is fine to put a toddler seat behind? Or should I get a hybrid?

    • +1

Go to a local bike shop and get them to help. Lots of bike deals going everywhere at the moment and getting local support, particularly in relation to your kids comfort and safety is priceless

  • Would this be good to get into cycling for an entry-level rider?

    • +1

      They have a similar style bike (components aren't as good as the posted bike though) with flat handlebars and 1x7 gears for $399.20 when it's in the cart;

    • I've ridden one of these and they're a great bike for most people. Depending on what sort of distances you intend on going the price might be a bit steep but if you're going any more than 10km rides I think this is excellent. The one concern I did have was I found the reach was a bit too far but it could be I'm not a super cyclist or my body not suited to it.

  • Only small and xs left.

Any of the Decathlon e-bikes any good?

    • +1

Battery sizes all seems very small to me.. check you can find replacement batteries before buying.

  • So tempted by N+1 (as I was last time) but I've already got too many bikes! I need to stop hoarding and let my fellow cyclists have a chance hehe…

Last time was a bargain, even more so this time (if C&C)!

You can't go wrong with Shimano 105 components, which are arguably better than the higher tiers (Ultegra and Dura-Ace due to QC issues related to the pedal cranks), and electronic shifting might seem cool but it's totally unnecessary and actually annoying that you need to charge your bike as well! (I have the SRAM-branded electronic groupset and it's annoying if/when it dies mid-ride because I forgot to charge the batteries…)

  • Does this come with flatbar as well? Can a Thule baby seat be mounted to this?

    • I had an argon 18 road bike, dropped bars like these with multiple baby seats attached over the years. No flat bar with this one and I don’t see a need for it personally, once you’re used to the drop bars it feels odd to go flat

  • small is oos :( just after i finished contemplating whether i should go for it or not

    • +1

      Looks like only XS left…

  • anyone know the weight of the bike?

    • ignore 10.5kg

  • Finger slipped and $910 spent… oops
