  • If converting to Qantas points then this makes a lot of sense. normal conversation rate is 1.3-1.5 c, so you are looking at 13% discount in this case.

    • Only if you fly qantas

I had bought 10 gift cards today one was tampered. The woolworths rep was more than happy to refund for me.that being said I had opened I all straight after buying it and checked they wouldn’t let me open it prior. And then I went straight back

  • "hey wouldn’t let me open it prior."
hmm why you have to ask? can we open it at the back not infront of the staff/checkout counter?

    • +1

The staff brought me to the front to redeem it they check it hasn’t been opened before selling it

      • +1

from what i've heard, its hard to tell just by looking that it's been opened and resealed. hence why people get caught up with tampered cards. the only way is to open them up and compare serials

        • +1

The Woolworths I got from was really nice I bought them all then I opened them after I showed them it was tampered as it was 5 minutes after and they happily refunded. they saw it was refunded called out the manager to check too and told me to come back tomorrow to get another card

          • @StarPlatinum: happy result for everyone i agree, you need to comeback tomorrow thats an extra time spent lucky you are free, other may not.

that can be avoided if you open BEFORE you pay and just chuck the card away AT THE BACK not infront of the staff of course.

after you open them again at the back and they are good just bring to the checkout and pay. if they ask why this ones open just said i opened them 1 min ago to check, i aware they are now open, i am happy with the condition as it is, i know i cannot return them after i pay and leave the store, i am going to pay right now and go home to buy new macbook today (not tomorrow)

            • @CyberMurning: They made me go to the front counter to pay and individually checked if each one was opened . They told me they were aware of such an issue and were happy to give me a refund I can stop by on the way so nothing lost entirely

          • @StarPlatinum: "hen I opened them after I showed them it was tampered as it was 5 minutes after"
you are lucky. other staffs may say
well in 5 mins you could have loaded the balance to your apple account and now you are saying the card is empty?, yeah mate nice try. double dipping eh

I picked up a few more cards today (already got some from the Coles Deal earlier). The store manager at Tarneit Garden was incredibly good. She hid all the cards before the sale to prevent anyone from grabbing or swapping them early. She also double-checked all the serial numbers on my cards to ensure they matched the activation receipts.

Got home and put them all on my Apple Account without an issue.

I went to Carlingford Court shop at 7am this morning, and found the whole shelf area where Apple Gift cards are kept to be empty. Asked one team member and was told they had Apple Gift Card activation issues and are not selling Apple Gift Cards at the moment. I was told they were pretty sure all other Woolworths Shops would be same.

Of course I would try another shop……. West Ryde Wollies has plenty of stock for all card values. No issues activating at check out, and 20x reward points were confirmed on the spot too.

Don't know what was going on at Carlingford Court. May be their manager has good intention like the one at Tarneit Garden that Hayden met and mentioned above? .. but that was not what the staff there at CC told me…..

Brisbane CBD - had quite a few variable and $100 cards, bought 4 x variable in the end and all activated successfully.

Staff member was a bit confused when I asked about the tampering, he asked his manager and they gave the all clear for me to open and check the serial numbers matched inside and outside.

Mac Mini now coming my way from AOC store. :)

Bought 6 variable load from Chermside, got the last variable load. All worked flawlessly, uploaded to Apple account. And instantly tracked the 20x rewards points. M4 Pro macbook here I come. I’m also trying to stack cashrewards on aoc anyone did stack with Cashrewards as well?

    • Also anyone know if you can claim a MacBook as self employed business expense if you paid with gift cards.

If I buy 8 gifts cards worth of $8000 does that hit the limit per day? Or is okay to buy?

    • How are u going to get 8 gift cards worth 1000 when the max card is 500. The limit is 10 per day so the most you’ll get is 5000 a day

      • I meant to type $4000

    • +1

You can just load it onto your Apple account to pay instead of using Gift Cards at check out. Also there is a limit on how much you can load on your account so better check with Apple on that. Also max amount per GC is $500.

  • Picked up a few GCs at lunch to buy a new iPhone, guy said the previous customer had bought $7k worth. Nuts

    • It is possible if they want to buy multiple devices or max out a Mac. Some even buy that simply to recharge for their mobile game.

    I’m still waiting on approval…

    …from the wife

  • once we load into our apple account, can we use it in the apple store app when we buy a new product? I have never done it before so want to confirm

    • +2

      yes you can

  • +1

Thanks Ozbargain! Bought today in Chatswood, the rewards points were on my app when I checked 30 minutes later. New Iphone coming on Friday to replace my perfectly fine 4g android that is blocked due to the bungled 3g closure. A happy silver lining thanks to the Ozbargain community

  • Bought 3x $100 cards yesterday.
    1 wouldn't activate and had a $20 card in there :(

Quite annoying. I asked at self checkout if I need to pay at the counter or self checkout and they told me self checkout is fine.

Note for all - PLEASE PLEASE check out at the counter and get them to open it before you pay.
I checked all 3 cards I bought quite carefully and couldn't even tell it was tampered however upon opening, you could tell as the card didn't just slide out.

I had to call up a number to Woolworths and they're working on getting me a refund. They didn't allow a refund on the spot unfortunately.

    • I would also call Apple - there has been some comments earlier where they were able to invalidate the other card, also I think you can get a new card there instead as well.

      Stop the scammers getting money.

For anyone else, never listen to staff saying self checkout - my advise is to err on the side of caution (especially when Apple products are expensive and you usually are buying a decent amount of gift cards) and do it at the register with a staff member with you. I was able to explain the situation politely and they allowed me to open the gift card to check the serial numbers matched prior to actually making the purchase.

    • Same thing happened to myself and my brother!

In my brother's case, the manager got the cards out for him, and they checked together that the packs didn't look tampered with.
      They looked perfect.

He bought them, and opened them immediately. One of the $50 packs had a $20 card in it which wouldn't load onto his account.
He's getting a refund, but has to go back for it.

In my case, I bought my variable cards the day before and only just tried to add them to my account. 2 of 10 were invalid. The outside packaging looked perfect. Both had variable cards inside, but the serial numbers don't match.

I've raised a case with apple and my sent details. (support.apple.com/giftcard)

If you go via the chat with apple, they'll give you a case number and then send you a secure link to upload your proofs of purchase.
You need to fill out some details then attach photos.

For EACH card, You need to take a photo, preferably with ALL the below on the one photo:
      1) The Purchase receipt, with your case ID written at the top
      2) The activation receipt
      3) The Outside of the package showing the Serial Number
      4) The Gift Card from inside showing the Code number and the Serial Number

Took me a few goes to get it right.
because if not all the info is on the photo they send a new upload request.
And that requires filling our all the information on the form again from scratch.

      Waiting to see what happens.
Hope this helps someone save some time.

    • Which Woolies were they purchased from?

  • +1

Struggling to find any (other than a smattering of $20/$50) in 3-4 stores in upper north shore Sydney… all gone from around 11am on day 1, and no new stock today :(

    • Wetherill park Stockland has heaps I managed to snag it all there

    • Was really lucky to find 10x $100 worth on day 1. Main display was empty but there was another one on the side that had exactly 10 left. Can’t find any since. Thankfully all were valid.

  • +1

Got few today.. but the first woolies I went to had all their cards at the front desk and didn't have anything over $100 gift cards. Was told best time is to come back on Saturday AM to pick a variable value card. The next woolies I went to had them all hanging on the shelf in full glory.. I took the cards to the front desk asked them to open and check the numbers match before adding value and buying them.

The checkout guy told me woolies had gotten rid of all the dodgy cards and if there was an activation issue I will have to reach out to apple for a new digital/physical card as every single card they hang is checked and the previous issue was because of an Apple employee (+ few others) working together to replace the cards before they arrived at Woolies. Well, I didn't pay much attention to the story and walked out with the cards and saw the $ off next shop on my woolies rewards!

Good luck to anyone planning to pick some up.

Just got a damaged/scammed card, so they're still out there. (Forrest Chase WW.)
$200 GC inside a pristine $100 sleeve. The last few characters of the code were obliterated.
I should have read the comments in this thread thoroughly first!
Definite suggest opening the card before purchasing.

    Negging for visibility.

    • Contact Apple immediately they might be able to get you a new card

    • +1

Sucks that happened to you and I hope you get it resolved.

However, this concern is pretty visible. Not sure your neg is fair.

      • I agree - the main post has the warning in clear big bold text and also quite a few comments discussing the entire topic.

  • I saw a few comments that the fake card inside a tampered package has some characters of the code obliterated or scratched.

Could someone tell me why did the scammers do that please? It seems they do not need to.

    • +1

No idea, but in my case, and my brothers case, the card inside was intact.
No code scratched at all. But the serial numbers didn't match.
So I'm assuming they definitely don't need to.

    • Maybe fear of being tracked? Idk if that’s a thing.

  • -1

I am wondering if I take advantage of this or wait for Black Friday.

    I am after a 13” iPad Pro M4 and M4 Mac Mini 512GB… using Apple Education Store it’s about $3093 with a trade-in of an iPad 6.

    • Buy the apple GC , then wait for black friday

      • Yeah I think that’s the way to go - that way I can add on accessories like a folio and pencil pro.

  • I don't understand how there is no evidence of tampering.

I really would like to see pics of a tampered gift card before it is opened by the genuine purchaser.

    • Is it difficuilt to tell as the serial is still intact

    • +2

They carefully cut the outer envelope open along the seam at the end so they can open it without leaving a visible cut on the surface, then they swap the card out with a fake one (or an already redeemed card), then glue it back together. Because the cut is between where the two sides are glued together, it's very difficult to see that it's been cut open at all.

      • +1

        At the bottom end?

        • +1

That's my understanding, yes. Where the flap is folded up at the bottom edge, you'll notice that the cardboard is scored to create a clean fold for the flap, and it's along that seam/score that the scammers do their cut.

Everyone please check your cards immediately after purchasing and if you do have a tampered one, request a refund straight away.

I bought 9 x $200 cards and 3 of them were tampered with. The Woolies staff did not offer me any refund and asked me to stay back for an hour to escalate the issue with customer service. I only just received an email reply 48 hours later asking to me return to the store to get replacement cards. Complete waste of time and was extremely disrespected by the staff throughout the entire process.

    • was extremely disrespected by the staff throughout the entire process

Recommend you make a complaint about the staff.

    • +4

My advice to anyone reading this prior to your purchase is to:
      1. Always buy them at a counter in front of staff
      2. Make sure politely advise them of the situation
      3. Ask to open them prior to actually paying for the cards (the cards are worthless until the payment goes through and card activated)
      4. Double check the serial number on the inside matches the outside (again, prior to payment!)
      5. Serial numbers match? Cool, scan ER card and make payment.

Optional, but in my opinion worth it:
      6. Add to Apple account immediately.

Where is the info for rewards points on the woolies site? Sorry, noob here. Checked https://giftcards.woolworths.com.au/apple/p/apple-egift and don't see it there. The Go to deal link takes me to the catalogue.

    • The reason the link for the deal description takes you to the catalogue is that this deal is advertised in the current Woolworths weekly specials catalogue.

This deal would not be advertised on the Woolworths Group gift card portal (i.e. the page you linked to), because this deal is not available on the Woolworths Group gift card portal.

  • Can I buy 4k dollars in 1 single variable GC? or I must have 8 variable cards with 500$ for each?

    • +1

$500 max each card. so you need 8 in total

      • Thank you. a lovely lady at woolworth helped me to get 4k smoothly without any issue. picking up macbook pro..

  • Does apple price match Costco? officeworks? others?

    • +1

Not Costco as it’s a member only store but Officeworks and other retailers yes

  • as someone else mentioned, make sure you check each card and add to your Apple balance before you leave the store. I bought 10x cards, but 2x were dodgy, the staff were very helpful and replaced them for me (they already knew about the issue).

  • I bought Apple gift card on 19th Nov, but didn't get the reward point
