      Or QLD

      • Rip

    • I understand it's legislation that prevents it from being sold in SA.

But why? Seems silly these days.

I wonder why Mally wouldn't fix this in SA?

Oh great. Got some Paulaner Weissbeir the other day and went down a treat. Will be stocking up now.

Munchner hell is great, it's been in the local Aldi for months now its like a regular stock item not a special buy.

      Yeah same as my local

At age 16 I went to Germany on exchange, near Augsburg in Bavaria. The drinking age for beer and wine there is 16. My exchange student took me straight to the pub and I drank a 500ml Hefeweizen. Life was never the same. You can find me at Aldi, reliving my youth.

I lived in Munich for 1 year prior to Covid so it cut it short, I was introduced to Franziskaner weissbier. My god what a good beer even better would get a crate of 12x 500ml for 11 Euro! Gained to much weight but it was happy weight. :)

    • +2

Bro plus there are some absolute honeys in Bavaria, it's an amazing place

      • I didn’t think bees would thrive in that environment what a pleasant suprise

      • This line to the tune of "America", a song from the 1957 musical West Side Story.

" I want to be in Bavaria, Weissbier A1 in Bavaria, enjoy wien-er in Bavaria, drinking great bier in Bav-ari-aaaaaaaa."

It's semi-regularly in stock at my local Aldi for this price, but I endorse this post because it is a good product and several dollars cheaper than First Choice etc.

    • That's the weird thing. Often in stock but only advertised infrequently such as their Oktoberfest catalogue.

I was in Munich in September. Enjoyed Palauner a lot and it became one of my two favourites (other being Augustiner)

    • +2

Augustiner is fantastic. Shame it's so difficult to get anywhere outside of Bavaria :(

    • +2

      Augustiner was the best

      • +2

I lived in Germany (near Munich) for about 15 years). Augustiner Dunkel is my favourite beer worldwide. Very rare to get it in Australia.

Long live aldi! Bringing me good great for a decent price. Take note local industry.

  • I paid $20.80 with 20% off at FC yesterday.

Will be heading to Aldi instead.

  • I buy the 4 pack Paulaner Weissbier from Aldi fairly often. I hope they range it permanently and not just as an Oktoberfest catalogue item. Very, very nice beer. Weihenstephaner Weissbier is still a notch above though.

    • +2

I think you like the more clove-y taste, personally I love the banana-y taste, my favourite weissbier is franziskaner, the schoffer comes really close tho

  • I tried a Paulaner Weissbier on Cup Day. Great beer. I'll be buying some for myself ASAP.

Are these like the Fosters of German beer?

    • +6

No not at all, these are actually really good german beers, that would be the Öttingers and bitburgers

      • +1

I don't understand your rebuttal. Foster's is wonderful.

        • fosters is good beer, at one stage was most popular beer in australia when i was a kid, 40 years ago problem is Elders IXL bought CUB , created fosters brewing when they bough CUB and they made Fosters an export brand rather than domestic. What does Barry Mckenzie drInk in the UK in the movie the adventures of barry mckenzie… fosters, tastes a bit like crown larger, times have moved on an we have more choices in australia but if you travel over seas and look for australian beer, likely it will be fosters they have.

    • No, these are beers Germans really drink. Aldi being a German brand.

  • At least a third less in Europe. Probably cheaper in Germany. Getting ripped here

    • +2

yeah about 3 times cheaper in germany

    • +4

Considering the cost of freight and the import and local taxes that are built into this price, it's pretty good really.

      • These are all brewed in Germany according to Bavarian beer purity laws. Other imports are often brewed locally (or in a 3rd country) under license.

        • yep becks are brewed locally.

I dream of the day an imported booze deal can get posted on ozbargain without some fedora-wearing dork needing to have an indirect brag about a trip they went on once.

We're all perfectly aware that alcohol taxes are quite high in Australia, mate.

      • +2

But where else can they tell everyone about their European holiday if it's not in the deal discussion for a beer that's available on Australian supermarket shelves?

        • +1

their friends have already told them they don’t want to look at their holiday pictures or videos on their phone and find them boring, so ozbargain is the last place they can post about their trip.

    • Shrug.
