Nice. I always thought they were overrated, but they work quite well.

      Why? What’s the alternative?

        Enjoy the sun.

This is a great way for people to stay skin safe, why are you against it?

These are awesome - easy to setup and very sturdy. Love em!

Does it provide decent coverage even without sides?

      • Yep. Never had an issue.

@Robot16 my experience is a bit different. I like it, but it doesn’t provide good coverage early or late in the day. Positioning is important, yes, this means if you’re at the beach all day you’ll be moving everything from one side across to the other chasing the shade. If the sun is low in the sky, this does mean you’ll be sitting outside the cabana.

It is well made and sturdy, winds don’t seem to bother it which is great.

        • Thanks both for the feedback!

I never knew these were so expensive, surprised another brand hasn't made a cheaper copy

They have, and they are not as good

    • Some have tried. I remember K-mart had a knock-off for $50-60 a couple of years back, but somehow they don't last a single, slightly windy day at the beach. I've used my CC regularly for 3 summers now (will start my 4th year this summer) and it's been great. And I've put it through some really windy days on Melbourne beaches.

    • Kmart has a $55 knock-off but note it is much smaller (1.7 x 1.7m) vs the large CoolCabana 5 (2.4 x 2.4m) which means it only covers about half the area. No idea about the quality either.

I will forever hold a grudge against cool cabanas for screwing me over on that $50 wine promotion.

    • +2

      Sorry to hear that mate.

That deal was great for me, as I was looking for one of these cool cabanas and I would've bought some red wine anyway.

I got my $50 one and now I’m one of the knobs on the beach with one.

Saw a few beaches in NSW littered with these things over Christmas season last year. Absolute eyesores. Funniest thing was, they were providing (profanity) all sun protection unless the sun was directly above. Mornings or later into the afternoon you have to sit outside of them to take advantage of the shade. Yet another silly TikTok trend.

Not really, if you want some shade at the beach they work quite well. If it's not around midday just position it appropriately. That's how umbrellas work too for the most part, unless you lay them down.

I'm not sure I'd buy one for $250 or $200, but the $50 one I got after buying some bottles of wine has been well used, enjoyed, and still in great condition. We use it in addition to a 3-sided beach tent and works absolutely fantastic as an extension of the shaded area, but with more airflow.
Only shame about it is mine is yellow.

Dig the pole in a bit further into the ground if you want closer shade.

Why does it matter if you're sitting outside of it when the sun is low? Shade is still shade?

How did you not get downvoted to oblivion like I did good sir! Criticism of these is not taken well by the mob!

  • Got a kmart knock off and swear by it. Great design.

    • Yeah I agree. They are a fraction of the price and have lasted us 3 or 4 years now

  • Any suggestions how to meet $400 spend, gotta buy two and the cart is $398? Nothing else is cheaper

    • +1

You could either buy the grass kit for $49 if you think you'll need it, or choose one of the designs that cost $209.
