Paid $99 last week. Damn. Ah well, at least its not a huge loss. Great speaker.

Yeah, I literrally have a pair I bought for same price from Centre.com en route.

    • $118 shipped to WA the other week. Still worth it.

    • I have them & really like them plus bought another pair from the Centrecom deal last week… Not a huge loss but a Loss is a Loss :-(

Have some older edifier S330D with a subwoofer, any benefit to the MR4's over these?

    • +3

S330D is better for movies, games and bass heavy music.

MR4 for more accurate and clear sounds. It looks much better too.

      • Which is better for gaming and movies in your opinion, the MR4s or the R1280DB?

        • +2

          I got MR4's to replace some R1280DB's.

Only catch is I haven't opened the MR4's in over like 3 - 4 years. Paid $99, did my research at the time. They're just sitting in storage though.

  • Which amp to go with these to connect to computer

    • +4

These are active speakers - amp (42W Class-D power) is builtin.

    • +5

These are powered monitors. No separate amp is needed. Amp is built in

Would personally wait for a deal and pay a small amount more on the R1700BTs - example deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/825187

    • Thanks, i was about to ask exactly this.
      How do they compare?

      • +1

I cant personally compare sorry to say, I just know the bluetooth is nice to have. Ive bought 3 R1700's after I was so happy with my own I gave others as gifts but im sure there are advantages in quality

      • mr4 has better directivity (easier to eq), but the r1700 has more bass extension

Thanks OP. Got these for my Mac Mini. Will be perfect for my WFH setup.

  • Do speakers like these work better than a soundbar for a TV or are the purely for a desktop setup?

    • Better than a cheap lone soundbar, probably not better than a 2.1 soundbar that comes with a subwoofer, or a pricier chunky soundbar

    • I wouldn't use these for a TV unless you're sitting quite close to it since they're near field speakers.

  • Love this brand ! I have the D12 and the 1280DB's. Both great for the price!! Highly recommend

  • Would these work with a turntable ?

  • I don't pretend to have good audio knowledge, but from what I have gleamed, for what they are, Audio Science Review and Erins Audio Corner both commend these. These outlets seem to be two of the heavy hitters in the field and not glorified surface level peddlers. Though in this hobby I know everyone get's attacked at some point. From memory they still need equalisation to shine though. Easily one of the smaller monitors worth a damn too. Nothing that I'm aware of punches as hard as these for the price, particularly in our market. Can be had for slightly more at Centrecom on a regular basis.

    • i think its more in the context of what else is there for $93 that's better given then you need an amp and two speakers

granted if you spend $300 youre going to better these but you've spend 3x the price

as always there's a limit to what a 4" driver can do… ie. there's going to be a lack of bass but again, everything else at $93 is worse

  • Thanks OP. I hear good things about this brand and it’s now the time to try 😀

  • Got these for $50 on marketplace from a backpacker. Great set of smaller studio monitors. Recommend setting up an EQ with Peace (if on Windows). Can't remember where I found the eq I'm using (I recall the username was moonlanding something) but probably from here: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/e…

  • Any recommendations for speakers < 20cm (maybe closer to 16cm) to replace Sonos One? Any taller and they're going to be blocked by my monitors (the screen type)… preferably active, wired, for PC, and with optional bluetooth.
