Normally priced at $159 seems to be plenty of stock according to https://officeworks.youinstock.com.au/search/goa05662au

It's barely better than its replacement.
Also wait till it's under $100Streamer has
32gb storage instead of 8gb
Double the RAM
22% faster processor
Ethernet port
Thread/matter capable
Still not worth >$99
And WiFi 6 I assume?
Agree $99- 120 be alright. The old ones are fine but may make things easier and faster with more memory for streamio (but that currently works quite well). Not ideal wifi signal placement in the bottom of my soundbar but may get an extension cable. The hub doesn't interest me, nothing a phone can't do (and other nest devices).
Prefer the vol buttons on side of remote.
Still can't play external storage, better off waiting for a new version of the NVIDIA shield with some decent grunt.
And WiFi 6 I assume?
No, it still has Wi-Fi 5. :(
Hmm. At least in PCs, a 22% faster processor is barely noticeable once the next generation of processors comes along (a Pentium 75 is basically the same as a Pentium 100… yes I'm showing my age).
The specs have been upgraded, but the Video support isn't upgraded. And the specs weren't an issue on the previous version. CPU, Storage, Ethernet weren't an issue. Like they're a nice bump, but without an improvement in the actual video processing systems then there's no point for the upgrade.
Personally, Ethernet and more storage make a big difference.
@jv: For most, Ethernet is a cheap USB-C adapter, and storage is irrelevant. Out of interest, what do you use local storage for?
Ethernet is a cheap USB-C adapter, and storage is irrelevant.
I prefer not to have extra cable that can be lost, and mine needs extra storage for all the apps.
Yeah I've got the ol Google tv 4K and it's a bit slow but this needs to come down cheaper before it's worth the upgrade.
Bought this and had to return, it was nothing different to my older google tv.
FireTV cube is a much better alternate and more powerful. Supports a lot more codec for directplay.
it was nothing different to my older google tv.
faster processor
more storage
ethernet port
better integration with google homeYes but still doesn't run half the direct play media. UI is better but other items are no different to fire cube.
You can pickup a cube for 100ish when on sale
Is the cube powerful enough to run 4K remux, h265, and external subtitles etc with Jellyfin?
Yes. Chromecast couldn't handle it. With subtitles, you just need to turn off the burn option and it works fine.
Wow price jump .
Damn, at this price I'd be going to an AppleTV.
Better interface, less advertising and (if it hasn't been added) ability to switch YouTube profile. Downside is losing Google integration.
I'd be going to an AppleTV.
Have fun running Kodi
You can sideload Kodi
There is an app called MrMC which is an app store port of kodi
Kodi is shit anyway
Wouldn't say that.
Alleviates ads on all the catch up apps. Easier list format, free sports add-ons.
If it ain’t plex then where the f u at
Kodi or Jellyfin
@destiper: Na
Only reason I’m considering is to be able to access RealDebrid and Stremio. Having difficulty setting up on Apple TV. Would also like to see closer to $100 and in no rush
install this for the Apple TV for Stremio RD.
Was looking into this, needs to be sideloaded right?
I’m a bit technology challenged.. is there a guide for dummies somewhere on how to install please?
free way to sideload guide.
https://www.idownloadblog.com/2018/07/17/sign-sideload-apps-…
once you’ve paired your computer with the AppleTV you can use Sideloadly to sideload the apps.
https://sideloadly.io/#download
if your tvOS is 16.6.1 or lower you could install TrollStore which would end up being easier (as you don’t have to resign every 7 days).
or use paid signing services.
https://www.koditvbox.tv/product/kodi-for-apple-devices/
for example is a subscription which gives Kodi and Streamer and MAME emulator.
@Diplomats: Thanks! Will give it a go, much appreciated
RD+PlexDebrid+Zurg+Plex
so what app do we need on a mini PC so that it can connect and stream movies from the mini PC hardrive, preferably free vs plex ….
Plex - should be free for non mobile apps. Transcoding shouldn't be an issue
Emby and JellyFin are also alternatives. VLC with shares would likely viable (assuming Android version can connect)
I bought one of these when they first came out. Runs brilliantly. Better than my 2017 NVidia Shield Pro but not the 2019 version.
One big warning though is it won't run Kayo or Binge (they aren't on the app store for the Google TV Streamer).Binge is now available.
I recently purchased the Walmart Onn 4K TV Pro, an USA exclusive through eBay US for AU $116.82 / US $75.20, delivered within 15 days. This one supports WiFi 6, has an Ethernet and USB Port, 32 gigs storage and is bundled with an HDMI cable, Bluetooth remote and Google Home as native functionality. I am glad I bought this over Google TV Streamer.
Don't update it. Apparently, the new update region locks it.
I updated it to the latest one and I'm able to access every OTT platform that we stream here in Australia.
Updates are fine, but do not reset. You will need a vpn wifi setup to reactivate.
Interested in one too, but prices are much higher now
I'm still running an old Chromecast Ultra, aside from the different format (remote, UI, apps) I don't think I'm missing anything in terms of quality?
Atmos?
Thanks, that looks like this is the answer.
I'm mainly running of Plex, but that could still be worth the upgrade.
https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/media
I'll consider a price match through The Good Guys as I have some gift cards kicking around. If not this time maybe over Black Friday / Boxing Day
The remote can also be purchased separately and was on sale very cheaply about a month ago.
The Chromecast Ultra is just a casting device though, it doesn't have an interface like the Google TV/Streamer.
Thinking of a different Chromecast model (w/GTV) - un publishing that.
Yes it would be annoying af if had to cast everything from ya phone.
Anyone else out there still rocking an ancient Vodafone TV unit that does most things well? I still love mine
the voda TV is great, wish they bought a new version, the antenna socket is great for free to air, why stream free to air TV? and it’s great for downloaded movies and streaming, makes hubble look lame.
Way too expensive and no wifi 6/e
The media streaming this thing is capable of doesn't require 6e
A mate got one and could not load Kayo. This was about a month ago. Can anyone confirm if Kayo is now available to install?
Need to wait for it under $100
