Outdoor Parcel Box for Deliveries

We are kind of sick of the delivery guys just throwing stuff into the garden and getting wet in the rain.
We have a gate and a brick pillars, so it's impractical to take down the pillars and build in a new delivery box.

I've seen two parcel boxes at bunnings.

I am thinking about placing a free-standard delivery box and either bolting it into concrete tiles or something. We have a narrow strip on each side of the driveway where I could put it into the garden bed.

It seems like these need a lot of silicon grouting, as the seem to leak and rust.

Not sure if there other options.

We have a pole cam at the top of the driveway and we don't really get porch pirates (yet).

We are in a battle axe block, there is enough room to drive down, do a three point turn and go back out (even with 3 tradies parked). The postie rides his motorbike down, drops stuff on our porch and goes back up the drive. The DHL guy drives down and back up the driveway. Not sure if there is any way of letting Amazon to tell their drivers to drive down.

  • I just have something like this - https://www.catch.com.au/product/gardeon-outdoor-storage-box…
behind the fence where it can be seen by the video doorbell but not the street.

Once the postie got wind of it, she is very good about using it. There's a delivery instructions section in amazon. Maybe 40% of deliveries seem to read it.

So far I live too far out for porch pirates, so have been lazy about upgrading to something a bit more secure.

    • This is what you need, then get a self adhesive engraved sign made on eBay “Please place deliveries inside this box”

$500+installation for delivery people to just continue throwing the parcels across the front garden anyway.

If they can't be bothered to ring the doorbell, they're not going to be using these parcel boxes.

i give my postie a box of choclates at chistmas and answer all surveys postively for him (unsure if that helps). he walks packages down my driveway all the time, finds places to drop the package out of the rain too.

Heaps of options. That Milkcan mob, Handycan etc.

I personally went with these guys for my built in one

You want to look at price, steel/aluminium grade, manufacturing quality, support and warranty. I also wanted particular colour options etc

    • I have one of these they’re absolutely fantastic

      • +1 me too, few years old now with no dramas
        Never had any water ingress

    • I also have a Deliver-Eze parcel box. My Mum showed the postie how to use it. Very happy with it.

  • Milkcan arguably more attractive than Sandleford via Bunnings

    • My neighbor has the hamilton, always feel like it looks like a bin.

      • Oh well, I did qualify with "arguably". I have the original Austin and have been happy with it, especially now that delivery drivers see them often enough to know how to operate.

        • I saw an old microwave being used out in the bush recently.

  • If you do go with one of those, make sure you're diligent and don't let mail build up

Personally, got a parcel box and no postie nor courier uses it :(

You can lead a horse to water, but you'll never train the current crop of amoebas in the postal delivery circus.
Logistics delivery orgs employ all the people whose CVs they find in the bin at the back of fast food joints interview HQ.
Orientation involves watching Pet Detective 500 times and replicating the first scene.

  • why dont you just get it delivered to work?

  • Do they leave deliveries that require signature into those locked boxes at all? Or will they just card you and leave?

Not sure how you'll go installing one of these into a brick wall: https://www.amazon.com.au/eufy-Security-SmartDrop-Notificati… more for bolting it down on your front porch or something.

  • Our AUSPost, AliExpress and Amazon delivery person are awesome and dropped all of our parcels in our porch.

On the other hand, the Temu delivery person will just throw them randomly on the grass around the front yard. My wife didn't seem to mind and keep ordering stuff from them.

  • We have a Milkcan for about a year now with no issues so far.

Like others have said, it comes down the delivery guy. Our AusPosties (bike and van) use it for things that don't need a signature. Larger Amazon boxes end up on the porch while satchels and smaller boxes go into the Milkcan, as do Aliexpress/Temu satchels. Our porch is about 5m from the path so its not that far but it seems like if it fits, it'll go in the Milkcan.

  • I got the sandleford from Bunnings. Seams do rust and I applied a rust guard which seems to have dealt with the issue. Haven't got around to repainting.

There has been no water ingress into the parcel slot. However, a storm will get water into the letter slot. Not an issue for me as I barely get letters delivered.

Something to be mindful of is heat. In summer, whatever is in there will get cooked.
