I had a Citibank debit card, for when we went overseas on holiday. Now NAB has taken over Citibank, all of those perks have gone. Are there any banks that let me buy things overseas and pay with my debit card fee free. Use an ATM to withdraw cash and not have to pay ATM fees. Thanks in advance.

Thank you
Or Worldwide Wallet if you already bank with Westpac/St George group of banks. Or Revolut if you just need a travel card.
Travel cards (e.g. Worldwide Wallet) are scams — have hidden fees. Never use them.
Rates for today(05/11) for converting AUD to US$100
Worldwide Wallet AU$156.81
Mastercard with 0% bank fee(e.g. Macquarie) AU$152.07
Revolut AU$151.30
Wise AU$150.89@FirstWizard: Not following - Is $150.89 from Wise bad? What's the amount otherwise?
@fredblogs: It made me rethink: Wise is not a conventional travel card — but you're right, one could class that as a "travel card".
By travel cards, I meant the conventional ones that are issued by banks, etc.In this case, I think Wise is the exception.
I still have those perks from Citibank after NAB took over. NAB issued me a new card and was informed I will be retaining the Citibank perks as I am an existing Citibank customer.
I can confirm no transaction fees OS when using the card.
Didn't happen to me, thanks anyway.
Yes it did :) Contact NAB and check
Everyone who had Citibank Plus accounts (or whatever they were called) was transitioned over a NAB debit card with the same perks. Do you still have the card from NAB?
If you juat let the transfer happen without any intervention, it's 100% transferred over.
get a WISE card
Do you know if spending with wise comes with similar customer protection stuff like chargeback for fraudulent transaction etc?
It's a debit card - they can't stole more that you have in the card. I've transferred sums using Osko (PayID) and money were in the card immediately - 1-2 min max.
For example I didn't have enough to buy souvenirs in Rome and told the lady - wait. Switched app and send $500 to Wise. Money came immediately and I paid the bill.
At the end of the vacation when we came back there were $210 left in the Wise card - went to local atm and withdraw $200. Tax was $5. So now let anyone who scanned the card can try and buy something using $5 left.
Also for online purchases it asks for second authorizations - using SMS or Wise app, so it's pretty much secure.
I know it’s a debit card; but the question remains - if some scammer do somehow manage to spend the money in the card by stealing my details, do I have any sort of recourse?
@localhost: Excellent, thanks.
Get a Macquarie card, much much better than Wise.
But if your Citi account was active when the takeover happened then NAB would have absolutely rolled you into a new product. Should have got some emails about it in January.
Thanks everybody, looking at UBank, it seems to take care of my banking needs.
Ubank eftpos turned to be the fastest transactions fee free in Europe.
Wise card has the best currency exchange rates. Used it in Europe and Asia, brilliant experience.
Don't find Wise to be great - maybe if you need to take out cash? Depending on where you're going and risk profile, taking cash to exchange often yields a better rate. I recently just returned from a trip where I had to spend about $22K overseas so applied for: https://www.nab.com.au/personal/credit-cards/nab-rewards-car…. No international transaction fees.
Satisfy the minimum spend, get the bonus points and get out as it has a high monthly fee of $24/m if you don't spend over $5k per month. Transfer out the points and cancel the card. For minimal spend I recommend the Bendigo Bank one. Zero transaction fee and no monthly or annual fees, but no points either.
Macquarie Black Card now has $249 annual fee, going to cancel it now…..
Your turn to ask this same question for this week. Did you search the forums? It's been asked to death. Pick one of Macquarie, Up and UBank.
