Dang I paid 351.93 in July

    Great monitor
    No complaints

Also can hook directly up to iPad (but holy moly how shit is the os experience)

And also can hook up directly to steam deck and charge.

In built speakers also quite ok for inbuilt.

    • I also use mine with an iPad but quite like the OS experience. It's actually my main computer for daily (non-work) tasks. Interested to know what it is you don't like. I do have a M2 iPad Pro so the Dell is a "proper" external screen so that might be the difference?

      • i have ipad pro m1 11 inch - i do also have the official magic keyboard dock but rather keep it housed in my zugu drop proof case.
i am mid 30s , so not a boomer, relatively tech savvy, but it just feels..unintuitive, i wanted it to be a natural extension of the ipad experience (i used my ipad normally for media consumption, little bit of emails , reddit ozbargain etc)

off the top of my head:

        1. why cant i just keep my ipad folded up, and off to the side somewhere, and use a nice big monitor as my only screen?

        2. i pair it with mx mouse and keys - no matter what i do, scrolling from ipad, up to screen, when on screen the cursor just feels weirdly laggy? Have tried to turn off the smoothing, stuffed around with speeds etc but no dice, feels weird.

        3. why is there no cursor …just a circle, idk how graphic designer/artists are supposed to really work like this? I suppose unless they just use apple pencil (which i also have lol). doesnt affect my productivity potential i guess…i just thought it was weird.

        4. i can put up with 'light' versions of photoshop, lightroom, no proper office (i have a 365 subscription), but even just simple stuff like rearranging/resizing windows seems unintuitive . (i do use windows 95% of the time)

        • +1
          1. I know what you mean but I think the big screen is supposed just be an extension. It may come, one day, as we now can at least dictate where the iPad sits, in relation to the monitor.

          2. I have 4 port usb 3.0 hub connected to one of the other usb ports and use dongles for a mouse and a mechanical keyboard. Both work perfectly but I really wish my gen 1 apple trackpad was fully supported as there are times when a mouse just doesn’t work properly with iPadOS (resizing the map in realestate.com.au for example).

          3. Don’t get me started.

          4. I think the resizing hassle is a byproduct of 3. (I use Windows for work and do have a Windows “server”).

I ditched my M1 Mac mini for this setup as I’m not a heavy iPad productivity user and on the whole it does what I need it to. It’s not perfect (and I’m sorely tempted by the new Mac mini) but the usability is improving.

        • This is not an anti-Apple post - they make great products - but this is one area where Samsung Dex is fantastic.

Since I don't want to do personal tasks on the work laptop, I just plug the phone into the monitor and have a great 4k desktop experience and saves me buying a separate device.

It does frustrate me when Apple uses marketing terms like a 'desktop class' browser on ios when the experience is actually much better on Android.

            @UnrealMacaw: Nah u right fam

If I wasn’t so stuck in Apple ecosystem I’d prob look at changing back , unfortunately the only Android I want is the new fold… but still not convinced Samsung has a reliable fold mechanism yet

    • can it hook up to mac mini and provide power?

      • +3

The Mac Minis (inc M4) don’t support that.

    • +3

I hope you recover someday from overpaying by $29.2

      • +1

will keep me up at night yeah

      • impulse buying a logitech pop keyboard deal isn't doing it for me

    • -1

I'm thinking of adding USB-C 4K monitor (have 2x 69cm Dell + 81cm Samsung) for easier (2y old) Samsung S23 Ultra with DEX - it would put iPads to shame (built-in S-pen & multi-windows experience in the pocket with 12GB RAM for AI ;)

Might wait for 8K version for the 8K videos I create & would enjoy them when 8K becomes mainstream.

  • I have one of these for WFH. Great monitor

  • Don't think it's been this low for a while. Great monitor. Have used it as a secondary since 2021 no issues. If i ever separate my work/gaming setup it'll be my primary monitor for work only thanks to the usb c PD.

  • I have this monitor. Any idea how to daisy chain from this monitor to another Dell monitor (P2422HE) or vice versa? I tried it, but couldn't get it to work, even though I can daisy chain from the P2422HE to an older Dell monitor. The manual is not entirely clear.

I could get both monitors plugged into the laptop, but the laptop didn't like the extra work, and became hot, noisy and slow.

    • I don't think this monitor supports daisy chaining. Happy to be corrected though

Also, I believe your laptop would be worked just as hard with daisy chaining anyway

Maybe try using 1080p or 1440p resolution and see if your laptop is happier with that.
I know this might not be ideal, but unfortunately 4K + 1080p might be beyond what your laptop is capable of

    • Depends on you DP level that is being output from the laptop. From memory DP 1.2 can only do 4K and 1080p and the 4K is at 30hz. The most it can do is drive 4K at 60hz on a single screen.

  • +1

How is 4K on a 27” monitor? Do you need scaling and does that negate the resolution?

Was thinking 1440p would be better on a 27”.

    • +2

It works fantastic. Also, scaling does not negate resolution, it leverages it (see: any phone in the last 10 years).

      • Thanks. Might need to find one in action. I have got two 32” at 4K and that looks right in terms of space and readability. Nothing too big or small and I can’t see pixels. Just concerned with going down size but holding the resolution the same.

This would be to upgrade my 24” thats attached to my desktops. That is 1920x1200.

  • I've been using it for several years with various macbooks. I set the resolution to 2560x1440 which is a good balance of font size and screen realestate. The only issue is that it sometimes flickers badly. It seems common for this model but I don't know if it's a m1/m2 compatibility issue, as when it flickers, it continues to flicker even if I unplug the macbook pro.

I may consider an ultrasharp next but am not sure if ultrasharp also has the flickering problem.

      • Thanks I'll test if it's dark theme causing the issue. Also the contrast adjustment.

Sadly I see U2723QE on the same list :(

        • It’s the refresh rate. I had the same issue with my M1 Air and changing the refresh rate fixed it.

    • Yeah my mate had the same issue, had one from a few years ago, and didn't have a windows PC (the only way to update firmware is via windows) so they replaced it, and he still has some issues - does appear to be related to later generation MX macbook compatibility at least for his use. I've only had it as a secondary/connected to windows PC and havent had an issue yet thankfully…

      • I am looking to get a M4 Mac Mini so been playing with my S2722QC to see how it goes as a monitor.
        Had bad text and blurry.
Seems macs want to do double resolution so it only plays nice on FHD setting :(
        https://bjango.com/articles/macexternaldisplays2/
Did some more reading and downloaded this and set it to run default at 1440p works a lot better
        https://github.com/waydabber/BetterDisplay
Also with this Dell there are a few YouTube about turning off a few settings when using macs.

I prob just buy a 1440p for the mac.. The 4k works fine for Windows and PS4 pro

        • I used to use this with a M1 Mac mini and it worked perfectly. There was an option in display settings that effectively ran it at 2560 but with sharp text etc.

          • @Orrelljet: I have a 5K iMac and a Mac mini M1 with 4K Dell display. To get the same desktop space the Dell runs at 2560 x 1440, totally fine for my non-demanding use case but I get that others may have different needs

            • @sumyungguy: That 2560 is scaled/HiDPI though, correct?

              • +1

@Orrelljet: Yes, scaled from native 3840 x 2160 to make readable text sizes

                • @sumyungguy: OK I set mine the same. It's not quite 5k sharp but way better than a native QHD display.

    • +3

I have a dual monitor + M2 MacBook Pro and the flicker only happened with the USB C cable while on HDMI, it's fine. I tried different monitor settings and OS configs that seemed to only reduce the frequency/severity.

About a month ago, I found out that the permanent fix is to disable GPU dithering. The setting is supposed to be available in BetterDisplay app but I couldn't find it so I've been using StillColor instead and haven't noticed any flicker since.

      • This fix looks promising! I just installed StillColor. Thanks

    • I’m pretty sure this is the model I have. Works fine with my m1 MacBook Air the vast majority of the time but I have indeed seen the flickering issue, even after updating the firmware of the monitor via a windows machine

    • +1

Just saw this in a YouTube review about this monitor:

Those of you that own this monitor (I do), but are experiencing flickering while connected to a Mac… TURN OFF the "True Tone" setting in "Displays". It eliminated the flickering and now I'm happy.

From a review at https://www.amazon.com/DELL-27-USB-C-Monitor-0DELL-S2722QC/d… posted on September 18, 2022:

If you use a Mac (like me) you might read that many monitors suffer from “flickering”, especially with the new Apple chips. The reason for the flickering, however, is simply due to the “Variable Refresh Rate”, which can be deactivated from the operating system settings. The only catch is that every time the system goes to stand-by/you turn off the monitor, the display returns to “variable refresh”, and you will have to change the setting from the operating system again. Not a monitor problem, however, but a MacOS problem…

  • +3

Good deal. But a lot more will come as the EOY approaches..

  • +4

great, but need to be sub-300

  • I have the Dell but noticed a Philips with similar specs at $316 no USB-C, with height-adjustable stand; not needed for a 27 unless you're unusually tall

    • +1

USB-C alone makes Dell specs significantly higher. You don't know what you are missing until you try the USB-C supported monitor!

      • What do you get beyond a power source? I already have a desktop hub so no burning need to get a USB-C display; but for the small price difference I get the appeal of the Dell

        • I already have a desktop hub so no burning need to get a USB-C display

I prefer the neat setup without the hub so there is less cables around my desk. If you already have a hub and non USB-c monitor, then no real incentive to upgrade but if you are replacing the monitor then I would rather get USB-C built-in.

          • +1

@IMadeYouReadThis: The Dell stand also has much more adjustability (height, tilt, swivel) whereas Philips appears to be only height adjustable

Neglible if you put it on the ozb fav monitor mount (North Bayou)

    • i bought this one specifically for usb-c , i always thought it was overrated but it works quite well.

  • I use this for my WFH setup with monitor's USB-C port used for charging the Thinkpad laptop.

  • Just bought a third one of these - great monitors. One of my kids has one of them and I'm going to try a dual 27-inch screen setup and see how it compares with a single 32-inch screen.

    • Just curious - how are you planning on use these on a dual settup? I didn't think daisy chaining is possible?

If its possible to have 2 connected I will also look at getting a second.

      • +1

Going to try USB-C for one and HDMI for the other. Don't know if that will work. Plugging into a M4 Macbook Pro.

        • You can go two Thunderbolt or one TB and one HDMI

          • @sumyungguy: Hopefully that works - otherwise I also have a TB dock with one TB out and 1 DP out.

            • +2

@zoomjc: Can confirm MacBook Pro can drive both monitors - 1 by TB and another by HDMI out. Just set it up now.

  • This vs the Ultrasharp? Any info? Web tells me things along the line of "USB-C and better screen" without much detail…

  • Would this do 1080p at 120hz

  • Bought in Sep 2021 for $369 (Dell eBay). Great monitor. Survived Melbourne-Perth road trip in a car jam packed with all sorts of stuff.

  • Can this daisy chain for dual monitor ?
Can see there is an upstream port but doesn't say MST

    • No MST support. There's no DisplayPort on S2722QC.

      • It has Alternate Mode DP 1.4 over USB-C. Won't this support MST?

        • No.

USB-C with DP alternate mode requires either DisplayPort Out or a Thunderbolt (downstream) as listed here.

S2722QC has neither output. I wish it did.

          • @kizzaaa: Looks to me it could be used as Monitor 2 in a Windows setup

  • Thanks OP. I decided to get one now and to skip black friday as I wanted it sooner and last year I found the sales average.

    Cheers

  • hey, for a WFH screen (not design/gaming) does it matter that this is only 60Hz? it seems a lot of people instantly dismiss any screen at 60Hz, is that mainly people who game?

    • +1

I think most people can notice the difference when scrolling through material like webpages. This should be fine for you, if 60Hz has never bothered you before.

    • +2

I've got no issues! Working in the legal profession, spending a lot of time WFH. It's never missed a beat after buying it quite some time ago. Being able to just plug my Mac into the monitor is a godsend. Power goes into the Mac, video/audio go to the monitor. Soooooo convenient. I then put my Mac into clamshell mode, works like a dream.

  • Cashreward is offering 10% for Dell, around $25 for this monitor. Further bring it down to less than $300. Pulled the trigger! Thanks

    • +1

Cashrewards 10% states "Excludes monitors and accessories.", so unfortunately no cashback for this.

Topcashback and Shopback currently have 5% for Dell monitors.

  • Thanks OP. Just ordered 1.

  • Showing $359.70 today 😞

    • +1

Proceed to checkout and apply the DNCPAU10 coupon. Then the price will come down to $322.73.

      Don't forget 5% cashback.

      • My apologies @sridhar, I didn't realise the $322 was with discount code. I'm hoping I can get it for under $300 for full tax deduction.

  • +1

Couldn't resist, bought to simplify the missus' work space as it's USB-C + PD.

Will take her old ancient Ultrasharp and make it a vertical 2nd screen for myself.
