Wltoys 12427 1/12 Remote Control Desert Buggy Differential Replacement, Worth It?

So my Wltoys 12427 which I bought for a whopping A$61.97 from this deal has a few issues:
An issue with the wheels going really slowly, almost no power going to them but still turning, I researched a bit and think it could be the differential. Original part should be plastic, replacements are metal but cost around $20. 1/3rd of the cost of the buggy seems a bit much to me.
Another issue was that the nuts on the wheels would tighten themselves to the point where the wheel couldn't turn any more, which resulted in the buggy suddenly being able only to do donuts…

I also bought a larger battery for $30, so my expense on this toy is at $90 so far, my question is this:
Is it worth it to spend more time and money fixing it, or is there a better option to replace it (the buggy)?
If you think a replacement is the way to go, then what would you recommend considering that I'm not looking to spend big, just want something that's fun, hopefully with metal moving parts to extend the time before the next expense.

I would buy a used quality brand buggy/truggy.

Depends what your primary purchasing factor is? Sounds like it’s value? Perhaps it’s low cost at the expense of all? Perhaps its durability?

What’s your budget for a new car or replacement parts? $100? $300? $1000? Have you considered how much you want to spend in ongoing maintenance?

What sort of driving do you do? Off-road? On-road? Skateparks?

I’m only new to the RC world too, but it seems like HBX/MJX have taken the prime value position from the likes of WLToys.

ARRMA/Traxxas etc have a cult following, but the cost of entry - wooooo!!!

If you want to repair it, start by looking up videos on disassembly/maintenance & check if you have the correct tools already before buying parts.

If you want to buy another, look at the 16th (or 10th if you have more $$ to spend) scale cars from MJX/HBX & buy from AliExpress for max bang for buck.

There’s lots of YouTube channels and Facebook groups to look to for help too.

Suffice to say you won’t find anything in the realm of your $60 category readily.

    • Thanks! I am now looking at MJX/HBX and have actually found a decent replacement in the form of HBX 16889, now just to find a good price

Good choice, it’s an oldie but a goodie. There’s also the more expensive 16889a pro which is brushless.

For the same money you could look at an MJX 16208 as well. About $120 on AliExpress & newer/brushless etc.
Can’t link it here cos my post gets flagged as spam apparently..

I’d also recommend looking up DerbyCity RC on YouTube. He did a great video on good cheap cars just this week:
        https://youtu.be/1jFR_6A6W-Q?si=bxW1MOrZPc_5y2FX

If you want to spend more and go 1:10 scale, the Rlaarlo Omni Terminator ($300-$350) and the MJX 10208 v2 ($240-$300) both get good reviews

        • Appreciate the recommendations, thank you. Good video by DerbyCity RC, I was only familiar with PERTH WEST OZ RC, will be definitely be getting a second opinion from him from now on. I'll be on the lookout for a bargain, quite a few sale days coming up :)

@fat queenslander: QuadifyRC has a really great website with a giant amount of information and Facebook group too. As exists various Facebook groups for MJX/HBX/WLToys etc too.

I’m personally looking forward to seeing the MJX 10208 closer to the $220/$200 mark for singles day…
