Waiting for the tyre clean and prep to drop to $5

      • Probably be OOS and it won't then go to $5.

    • +1

The way I read it: the wheel cleaner is a great product and got the detailer to see how that goes

      • Yep that's right. I have used the wheel cleaner before but the detailer is new

  • Where does this rank between gyeon and bowdens for wheel cleaners.

  • Anyone know a good product to use to get limescale off a car (window and paint)?

Was on holiday and the garage at my complex was dripping on my car and now I have limescale I need to get off.

    • +3

      Clay bar, polish, sealant.

      • +1

Any recommendation for a clay bar? I have seen that recommended online but I don't even know what it means. I am picturing a clay bar of soap. Is it essentially just fine sand paper (or more like a whetstone) that is polishing off the limescale?

        • +5

It's not like sand paper but the outcome is similar. It is tacky so it attempts to pick/lift the contaminants off the paint surface. Not grinding them down like sandpaper would.

Buy a reputable, common brand like Meguiar's or whatever. Use the fluid they give you, fold the clay bar over itself periodically so you are not scratching the surface with the crud it picks up.

          • @rodericb: Cheers, I will give that a go. Not a huge area so hopefully I can do it without too much fuss. New to actually caring what my car looks like.

            • +4

@EBC: Have a little practice on a horizontal surface of your car first to get the feel for it. The narrow bit of the roof above the doors will usually have some pollen or whatever. Even after the area is clean you may feel that it's a bit rough and bumpy if you gently slide your finger across the surface. That stuff is easy pickings for a clay bar.

Spray the detailing solution onto the surface, this is the lubricant for the clay bar. Conform the clay bar to the surface and gently slide it along. You might even feel it picking up the contaminants as it slides.

Give it another test with your finger to see how well you are doing with it. Mmmmm….smooooth.

              • @rodericb: Is something like this what I would want? Would a kit like this be worthwhile?

                https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/chemical-guys-chemical-g…

Or just the bar and lubricant? The car is a 1 year old demo model so not super worn at this stage so really just wanting to do a spot fix of the limescale. Also don't really know what finish is usually on a car straight from the dealership.

                • +1

@EBC: If you have none of those products then what you have linked will do all you need with regards to addressing the limescale. If the limescale is very persistent you might need to use a very very weak acid and wash it off with lots of water. Weak as in a half/half mix of vinegar and water and dab the spots with a soaked paper towel and a bit of light agitation. The big thing with this type of paint maintenance is if the car is under cover most of the time, out in the open, how much crap is in the air to settle into your car….

The paint on your car when it's new will be smooth as glass. With paint you have three things which can happen to it- 1. build up of pollutants and crap, 2. scratches and 3. breakdown of the paint itself and/or the layer of clear usually put on cars either through chemicals or some things like bird poo. 1 happens over time, 2 happens when washing with dirty washing equipment (you are rubbing grit into the paint surface) or you scrape against something, 3 happens when it happens….

                  • @rodericb: Thanks for your advice! Would spot cleaning/polishing/waxing the one area be okay to do or should I not do that?

                    • +1

@EBC: You can do just the spots. If you can see any difference in the shine around the spots you could leave it with just the spots done.

I should also add to do any washing etcetera in the shade.

                  • @rodericb: "The paint on your car when it's new will be smooth as glass." - not all cars. My Mustang's paint wasn't like that when I bought it in 2016. I think they forgot to detail it. I had to do it myself when I got home.

Acetone works well on cleaning windows, but DO NOT use it on the paint at all. It's a great tool but use with caution.

    • +1

Vinegar will slowly dissolve the limescale by reacting with it. That’s about the only thing that will chemically remove it.

So I would do this before claybar, polish, and sealant.

      • I have looked into some sort of acid based cleaner. Are there any acid based car washes? I have seen an acid based shampoo, but I am more looking for something more concentrated for spot cleaning rather than full car.

    • happened to my car before, use CLR cleaner

      • No issue on the paint/clearcoat?

    • CLR Cleaner

    • Cuttle fish bone soaked in warm water can remove watermark and limescale. Check it out

This is a pretty random, out of left field comment.

  • seesm already out of stocks

  • What's the difference between these?

Turtle Wax x Mister Cartoon Tyre Clean & Prep 946ml - looks pretty good, Good volume too

I've picked this up but would be keen to know if anyone knows the difference? So I know if I should refund it or not

Looks like that one's for the tyres (rubber bits) and the one in OP is for the wheels (the metal inner circle bit)

  • +1

Pickup 2 bottles in Eltham Vic before they run out of stock, $10 per bottle won't go wrong, Tks OP!

    • Couldn't resist, end up buying 1 detailer as well, for $10 it can't go wrong.

Used the quick detailer tonight and it is great. Effective, concentrated and smells great too!
