Price looks good for a 4050 laptop.
    Tempting…

If it wasn't Acer, it would be a good buy! They offer bad service and bad quality. Their main business is offering low quality products to education sector.

      • Could you elaborate a bit more? is it to do with build quality?

      • +6

This comment shouldn't be downvoted, I bought a nitro V previous model off harvey norman and it's been a horror show.

We purchased two, had issues with them from day one, harvey's bs service is one thing, but when you have Acer after a while straight up admit that ALL of the nitro series have issues due to quality, quantity scaling resulting in issues, thats another thing.

It's a whole other thing when they straight up admit to you the entire series of nitro laptops is known to have thermal issues due to the engineering and design of it, and they've just kind of accepted it because it's the price of whacking components in as cheap as possible into the same setups.

So you'd think after admitting this and saying hey return it and get refund, only for harvey's to claim that acer's admission means nothing, they've got to ship the laptop off to be inspected and repaired.

Yeah….. so got stuck with this piece of crap because harvey just kept playing dirty until the warranty ran out and then just kept ignoring anything, the regulators went, oh you naughty boy harvey and said he SHOULD do something and when they did nothing went, well too bad i guess.

Acer just keep going "return it to the retailer".

        Don't buy this junk.

I have a 4060 based nitro and had a 3070 based on in the past.

I wont buy from HN (even though it was cheaper for the 3070) but it seems to be more an issue with HN, surely?

        • Agreed. I bought two of these Nitro Vs at HN and BOTH were DOA.

          • @jamesvdm: Wow, thats really sh|tty acer quality

          • @jamesvdm: Wow never think a brand new laptop can be doa. I mean surely they got tested and all?

        • I also have a nitro 5 from harvey norman from a few years ago. I was disappointed from day one. I've barely used it because I hate it so much. I wished I just waited and spent more for a current macbook air m3 or something nicer.

        • user name checked out what an adventure

Digidirect just had a major data leak. Recommend checking HIBP if you've purchased anything from them before

    • +11

Doesn't really matters nowadays. What can you really do, after the Optus/medibank/energy Australia/…………… data breach. All our info is there on the dark web.

      • -1

Don't worry, the $1/2 Trillion Nuked Subs will protect us, so our data is not leaking further ;)

      • true, just be aware of scam even they got you some personal info from those leaks…
        Nothing we could do

      • +2

agree i can imagine the hackers tried to sell our data the seller will be like ah sorry mate we already have most of the Australian info…..

        • LMAO I had this exact thought, data buyers just looking through what Breeches had on offer and asked if they could get a discount if they remove all the Australian datas from the selling packages!

        • so basically trying to sell solar power during the middle of a summer day

  • with TRS this will be a very yummy price….

  • Hi, how's this one compared with Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9 posted yesterday? Thanks.

    • +1

LOQ is a better option IMO, nicer build quality.

      • Hey Jarrod, what's your opinion on the LOQ dead motherboard issues? There seem to be hundreds of posts on reddit from the last six months with this problem.

        • +1

Personally, I don't think it's a big issue. I asked Lenovo about it months ago. They told me they aren't seeing an increase in RMA/warranty requests for LOQ vs any other model. I suspect it's just that they are super popular, nothing in life is perfect and everything has failure rates, only takes a small handful of people to have problems and say something on reddit for everyone else to parrot the occurrence for the next 5 years.

          • @JarrodsTech: Cheers. Maybe it's a different issue then. The LenovoLOQ subreddit makes it sound like it's a nearly official thing, affecting Intel 13/14 series LOQs specifically 2024 and mostly the batches manufactured in India.

Obligatory thanks for your videos, the website etc pp.

  • Acer Nitro V 15 15.6" Intel i7-13620H/32GB/1TB SSD/RTX4060 8GB Gaming Laptop

    $1727.20

    Not bad

    • -1

Hmm not too sure. Spec is okay but 1700 seems high remember nitro v is budget model

      • +1

Realistically though spec for spec I think only Lenovo could beat this price.

    • I paid $1497 on sale for a V16 4060 with (IMO better) AMD CPU. The above deal is still decent though.

      • Noice

  • +1

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/395380218297 worth considering, earlier gen i5 but 4060, AU $1,161.07 with coupon code (Ebay Plus)

    • +5

Not worth considering at all with other options available. GF63 4060 is power limited to like 45W and is closer in performance to a cheaper 4050.

      • Thanks for that info, did look like a good deal otherwise! I've been looking for ages on a 4060 or better laptop for my son for xmas and aiming for sub $1500, 4060, 1TB SSD and > 16GB RAM.

      • good to know, cheers

  • -2

    terrible value

    • How so? It's the lowest priced 4050 I've seen locally. And it's not low powered like worse laptops eg MSI GF63.

      • And it's not low powered like worse laptops eg MSI GF63.

I thought the Nitro V 15's only had 60W TGP?

        • What ever it has it's more than the GF63 hehe

      • Colour gamut clamped at ~68% sRGB would be the big one, and presumably the refresh rates are flaming garbage alongside.

        • Yeah goes without saying for any new gaming laptop this price, but usually you get a worse GPU to boot.

  • +2

    don't do it

used 3 Acer Nitros before and each time I eventually got the black screen of death twice just after warranty finished and once within warranty which it was fixed but then black screen of death happened again soon after

    well known issue

    • and note this is nitro V, the budget of the normal nitro

      • +1

yes nitro nitro V all bunch of crap

    • I've used 2 Nitros as desktop replacements. Both were fine.

      YMMV.

      • How long have you had them?

        • Two Nitro 5 used by kids everyday, got both in 2021. Still doing fine.

  • +1

I'm a tech. I have a Nitro 3060 that I use for occasional gaming and I've never had an issue, but I've heard of heavy gamers having problems.

My take on it is if you're going to hammer it on WoW or nightly AAA games it won't stand up to the strain, but for light users you're likely to be fine.

Also, as a tech, I don't usually recommend Acers for the reasons above although they have gotten better in the last 5 years or so after losing a lot of the education sector to Dell and Lenovo

    • +1

but please note this is nitro V, not the normal nitro

  • I wonder how much of these issue are related to the intel cpu issue, rather than the manufacturer.

I wouldnt pick up anything intel 13 or 14 gen just to be safe

  • +1

I actually had an Acer Nitro5 for quite a few years and still very well performing

    • Same, and plays games very well on 1440p, i have the 1660ti i7 9th gen. Very good laptop
