Digidirect was recently hacked and their customer database was dumped on the dark web. They have not been transparent and did not inform impacted members.

I only found out mine was comprised when I received an email from Have I Been Pwned?.

      • +1

Same. I found out through google one dark web report

    • +1

Yup, received a spam email to the address I only used with them. Knew something was up. Received a notification from equifax about the address compromised on the dark web.
      Still no notification from digi.

      • Has anyone reported the lack of notification? What is the best authority?

    • do they get fined for this?

      • +1

Yes they can get a fine up to $50 million

        • +1

holy. thats heaps! i guess it pays to do the right thing and be transparent

      • +1

Changes to the Privacy Act in late 2022 set the maximum fine a company could receive at $50 million or 30 per cent of its turnover during the period of the breach, whichever was greater.

    • +2

      Aww but the savings!

      • +8

Well, they can't leak your details twice.

    • +1

They're dishonest about their stock levels so not a huge shock to see them fail here too

    • +1

This might explain why I've been getting 4/5 spam calls every morning recently.

      More info from the forums

digiDirect gas-lighting customers that DOB is "non-sensitive personal information"

Watch this space - the combined digiDirect and Booktopia group may end up with a longer ACCC rap sheet then MSY:

Booktopia to pay $6m for misleading statements about consumer guarantee rights
digiDirect pays penalties for misleading consumers about 'storewide' sales

    • +1

Yup got a notification a few days ago. Surprise there was no notification email. Terrible. Concerning as it was a lot of info leaked. Not just name and email. It was all of the above.

    • Also if you are using hotmail. Check your login attempts as hacker are brute force your password due to Microsoft terrible security measure. I was forced to change my login alias becasue of this terrible issue

  • +1

Sad no restock on the griii / iiix

    • -1

This. Stock seems somewhat constrained in general. GR IV around the corner?

      • +1

Hope so but nah I don’t reckon

They seem to be happy with artificial limit of stock and selling on hype like Fujifilm, the bastards.

      • more likely to be a new SKU :|

        • i still dont know which i prefer between nd or hdr filter…

i havent used an nd/vnd for literally decades when i used to do lots of strobist stuff…
though i guess it IS handy on a bright sunny day…

Thanks OP. Been looking to buy a couple of LaCie d2 Professional 10TB drives to replace my existing backup drives. They were $50 off last month with a coupon but I was overseas so didn't buy. Saw this just now and bought two (saving $207.60). There was no price jacking on this item. I'm now a very happy chappie.

    • +1

What do you like about those drives? I’m intrigued but they seem expensive for what they are.

      • I already have two that I am replacing and they have been very fast and reliable. Also, the aluminium case is much better at heat disapation than the plastic cases DAS drives usually feature. I use them for offsite backups (getting 20TB to the cloud is expensive and time consuming so I prefer offsite drives, but that's just me).

There's a couple of really good deals on some refurbed cameras from Fujifilm:
    - Fujifilm X-H2 for $2060
    - Fujifilm X-T4 for $1479.20

Hope someone finds some use in this!

    • X-T4 is tempting…seeing

Condition: The box is opened and unsealed, REFURB Fujifilm X-T4 Body Silver is in as new condition it has been check and tested and adjusted by Fujifilm Australia
      1 Year Fujifilm New Warranty

    • have they deliberately nerfed stock levels of non-refurb current models for the sale? none come up… who knows

digiDirect leaked my DOB, home address, full name, and email address a few weeks ago. I emailed the group GM, Sina Clayton, with a formal request for information about the hack, but haven't heard back. I would encourage others affected to do the same - [email protected]

I'll be filing a complaint with the OAIC.

    Buyer beware.

    • +1

I'd thought it's common sense not to register your true DOB online unless where legally required like banks and government agencies.

      • Yeah I usually don't - not sure what I was thinking on the day. Might have been due to my browser's autofill. I remember being distracted on the day though.

        • +2

Not victim blaming but yeah I can understand one can't be on guard 100%. I also used different email alias for different stores to identify where the leak came from if I get a scam email. Some leaks came from big name stores and service providers, even a financial institution! For all the rants about Kogan, their system is robust, there's no leak with my email registered there.

          • +1

@Buy2Much: I usually generate a 33mail email alias too, but didn't this time either. Definitely was distracted that day! 🥲

I have been shocked by some of the leaks I've discovered too.

            • +1

@itsfree: Mind you, my DOB and more personal details are all over dark web after the Optus and Medibank breaches, don't think they are getting anymore value out of me…LOL

              • @Buy2Much: Haha. Good point! I had the Optus one too. 🤪

    • You gave your DOB to buy a camera?

      • Yes, it's not clear why they collect the DOB! Like I said above, i remember being distracted - might have been in hospital that day. I couldn't let that get in the way of scoring a bargain though! 😂

    • I never put in my DOB on my online shopping. Luckily I checked my acc and it wasn't there. Not sure why retailers would want that, unless its for Birthday coupons?

      • That's what I thought too - never received any coupon from them though!

    • +1

      same here…

They always bump the prices on eBay to then offer a fake 20% discount. I have been tracking the price of a Canon RF 70-200 F4L and it has been around $2200 everywhere for almost a year, they are even selling it for $2289 on their page right now, but on eBay they are selling for $2699 then with the discount $2159.20, the real discount is less than 6%!

    • +1

Welcome to eBay "sales" since 2011. Sorta surprised the ACCC has never bothered to clamp down the price jacking as it seems to blatant, but whatever.

      • Gotta remember that the ACCC only initiated the enquiry into Woolies and Coles after some social media posts pointing the issue out. Useless.

  • Thanks OP, ordered 2 Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens and saved $2000!

  • +1

Sony 85 GM2 is 2399.20, lowest price I have seen so far.

    • And how much is it on their normal website??

      • It was $2549.15 at its lowest before today, though the price is currently higher at $2888.

    • Actually scratch that, Digital Camera Warehouse updated their price to 2166 AUD which is now the new ATL I have seen.

  • +3

Negging as companies that leak you personal information and aren't transparent about it, don't deserve your business.

  • Nikon Z5 ebay $2,449 and their own website $1,988 so with the 20% discount it's roughly the same price. And so on and so forth with other examples.

  • +1

Decent deal on some of the Godox flash gear e.g. Godox V1 for Sony at $276 is equal ATL from them. However I don't think I can support a company that leaks your data and ignores the complaints when caught.

  • How much are you affected if you bought something from them via eBay?

    • Interesting question, because private sellers can't see buyers' actual email addresses nowadays, don't think store sellers have access either. I think all they have are your names, phones and delivery addresses. On occasions when I asked for store invoice if an Ebay store did not include in parcel, they asked for my email address to send to.

  • +1

Company that had breach and your data got leaked, however no notification from them to customers to inform. Only got to know via news and via alerts through Equifax.

  • Company not only has inaccurate stock and doesn't tell you there is no stock after you pay (and thus need to chase them up), it also doesn't inform you of a data breach that affected them

  • I jusr bought a lens from them two weeks ago for $420-ish, now it’s $340-ish. 😓
