Paying Council Rates

Hey everyone! I’m about to pay my council rates (around $2,000) and was wondering if anyone has tips on how to earn rewards, discounts, or points while doing it. My council just offers the basic payment options, but I’m curious if there are any creative ways or payment methods out there that could give a little extra back. Maybe certain credit cards with points, cashback apps, or other options? Appreciate any advice!

Must be for a studio apartment in Broken Hill.

    • House in seven hills around $1700.

    • Yeh, $2,000 - I wish

      • Ok, spit it out, how much are your rates?

        • $4,991.30 for this year

    • $2,000 per year or quarter? I'm on $2,000 per year / $500 per quarter.

  • Maybe buy Coles Prepaid MC when it is on special. Then you will get Coles Points, Credit Card and a few % off (for Variable Card or $250 Card)

    • just watch out for the scams. decided against buying it last time the special came round.

Zippay as per above to earn cc points

If u can get prepaid cards on sale then that's worthwhile

  • PayPal

  • If an option, paypaperbills (Australia post online), PayPal, pay in 4

  • My Council doesn't accept Amex so I use Sniip.

    • Not keen on sniips ‘processing’ fee

      • Fair enough, it does cost you extra in the end. I guess the processing fee is much more palatable if it is tax deductible (i.e. for an investment property).

    • Quite a few do accept postbillpay which is worth a try.

  • Check your benefits: hard rubbish, green waste, mattress collection and rebates/grants etc.
