This averages out to be $49/month for 2 years minus gift card bonus.

Not bad for 300GB but after 2 years, just change to another telco?

    • +1

Yes! Or sign up and pay early termination ($759 approximately). So you make $341, $441 if they refund the $98

      • Been seeing these deals. Can I pay early termination fee with gift card or is it through Telstra and use my credit card?
So 1. Get the $99 plan. And use any of my current numbers to transfer (got a few amaysim 365 day ones for gps) Get my $1200 jb voucher.
        2. Cancel plan and pay $759 termination fee.
        3. Keep the $1200 and if lucky refund for first month?

        • Yes, but no need to transfer number. Just sign up to new service

          • @fozzie: Thank you. Might head to jb today. :)

            • +1

@Mikael: No worries at all. Bring id as they do credit check.

              • @fozzie: Thanks. Still not sure if gonna do it or not. Got most things I need from JB. I know it's a profit but only profit if using for jb.

                • @Mikael: First step done. Got signed up. Paid $99. Got my gift card. Now just to go to Telstra and cancel and ask if I can get the $99 back.

                  • @Mikael: Done, went on Telstra chat. Cancelled. This one couldn't refund the $99. Early termination fee was $766.59. +99. Not bad for getting a $1200 jb voucher

Are we really doing this again after the last 100 similar posts?

      • -7

Just going off what I heard instore since last post I asked and the staff seem to think that it's the value of the voucher, not $800 in the CIS.
If you've managed to get $400 free and can confirm that it's the $800 paid pack then cool.
It's a solid ozbargain loop hole for $400 free jb credit if true. Then too good to be true rules apply.

        • +9

It doesn't matter what the staff think. The wording has not changed. It is still $800 as per all the previous deals.
Not too good to be true, it is just $400 and requires a bit of effort including buying a phone and going on a plan temporarily — similar to churning cards.

          • -4

            @xsacha: Have you done it?
What'd you get with your free $400?

            • @xdivino: Most of us have now done it several times - get whatever you like, best way to get Apple stuff - will be holding out for 10% off new MacBook Pro M4

            • @xdivino: PS5 Pro.

            • @xdivino: Yes, have done it a few times including yesterday. I got a cheaper phone.

        • +1

I can strongly confirm that repayment still 800$ as CIS said.
I’ve just received the bill for 799.92$
It’s not 766.67$ because I’ve already have 1 working connection with them

          • @endyking: Me too

          • @endyking: Weird $800 assumes the full amount, ie day 0.

I opened and closed 3 on the last deal that was $1600. This time the system only let me open 2. I've cancelled both and billed for $766

            • @krisspy: $800 is on CIS
I’ve received the bill for $799.92 because they don’t take $99 when I signed up and I still keep 1 to use on my account.
If they take $99, I will get bill for $766 only

              • @endyking: Yep just as I commented it's basically day 0. Meaning the plan wasn't active

    • +7

      I genuinely can't believe we're doing this again…

Wording hasn't changed. Deal hasn't changed.

You will profit $334.41 if you cancel the plan in the first month.

Staff might be saying otherwise, but words in the contract are all that matter and haven't changed.

      …and yes, I've done it: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/137916/117021/screensh…

      • +1

Hi mate, so you’re saying we pay $99 for first month to get the $1,200 gc, so how’s it worked out to be $334.41?

        • +5

          $1200 gift card - $99 first month - $766.59 pro-rated cancelation fee = $334.41 profit.

          • @BradH13: And we can use the gc to any products incl. apple products, if I’m correct?

            • @ginger-gin: It's just a JB Hi-Fi gift card. Nothing special about it, so I assume so.

          • @BradH13: Many people got a refund of $99, including myself.

          • @BradH13: Why are some people reporting $800 pro-rata cancellation and some are $766.59 cancellation? Which is correct?

            • @Homr: $800 pro-rated against the one month of the 24 month plan is $766.59.

              800 ÷ 24 months = $33.33
              $800 - $33.33 = $766.67

Why there's an 8 cent discrepancy, I can't answer, but that's the math.

This fee applies if you pay the first month.
Others are claiming a refund of the $99 first month if they get lucky with chat and will pay the full $800.

        • +2

          So Math is
          +$1200 GC
          -$99 First Month
          -$766.59 Repayment
          = $334.41

          • @xdivino: So telstra only charged $33.33/month for this plan… interesting

        • I did it a couple of months ago. Twice

      • Not everyone's going back through previous posts so it's prob worth noting or clarifying anyway.

I'm keener to know if anyone has actually done it.

Also is the payback to Telstra just a bill? Cause i'm thinking min spend on a points credit card now to boot.

Two sim's worth net $668.82 based on your numbers above so free PS5 basically

        • +4

Brother, I literally just attached proof to the comment you're replying to.

Payback is to Telstra Limited ABN 64 086 174 781 and comes in the form of a JB Hi-Fi branded invoice with a due date, and you will earn Telstra Plus points on it, even though JB contracts, if you pay them as usual, do not accrue them.

        • Or do x6 (bring your partner) and get a ps5 pro + games

          • @fadzsolz: Limit 3 plans (and gift cards) per customer.

Edit: Oh, I didn't see bring a partner.

That being said, I'm not sure you'll find a rep to process 3 plans each back to back in the same session for you as it will be clear you're gaming the system, even though it's allowed.

            • @BradH13: Why would the staff care? Doesn't impact them at all.

              • +1

@Aureus: It took the rep 25 minutes to process my one service, and that was on an account with accurate pre-filled information from being a previous Telstra customer.

I'm not saying they won't. I'm saying I'm not sure you'll find someone willing to play ball for 6 services simply because if I was the staff member, I'd certainly be peeved and/or uncooperative, even without knowing about the workaround.

              • +1

@Aureus: Yeah guy who did my two was literally explaining the loophole to me and saying how good it.

            • @BradH13: they dont care, when i did one he said go do x3

            • @BradH13: They all will

      • +1

The first month $99 can also be refund as I got my $89 refund from previous $1200 deal

        • I didn't know that, but I'd assume YMMV applies to this.

          • @BradH13: Yes, 100%. My profit from the previous deal was $1200 - $766.59 = $433.41. As far as I know, most people successfully received a refund for the first month. Just keep trying different agents if one doesn’t agree.

            • @hnxhyz: Do u have a script? How do you ask the agent?

        • +1

i got first month refund 1st time. second time no cigar

          • @fadzsolz: thanks good to know

          • @fadzsolz: why didn't the 2nd time work? did you try different agents?

            • @Homr: the Jbhifi agent said it would get charged for first month when i cancelled. Went to Telstra to refund the charges but they cant track it. Not sure if JBHIFI removed it so fast that telstra cant track it. nothing shows up in my telstra account and my jbhifi account is also cleared. I dont even know the number or details of the order to try and chase up Telstra

      • Just crossed check the deal. This or should we be waiting for $89/month deal?

  • Harvey norman pixel 9 pro deal seems better… Free on a $69 plan (assuming you want that phone)

  • I am with Boost.
How many days I have to out of it to be eligible to take this offer?

    • Just port out and port in straight away. I did that last year and didn’t have any issue. Just don’t tell the staff that you just ported.
Alternately, if you are planning to cancel the plan after subscribing, then simply get a new number.

      • I’ve never been able to do that. Always had to wait the 30 days :(

Luck of the draw I guess

  • +1

isn't it always cheaper to go with one of those 365 day pre paid plan?

    • Often yes, unless you need a crazy amount of data which then makes this a good deal.

    • +1

If you use this plan for work, the gift card is 'free'.

  • can I add apple watch esim on top of these?

    • +1

Previous threads stated that you can.

      • -1

What if you cancel your plan. Would the esim plan continue?

    • +1

You’re lucky. I just crossed check and yes with extra $5/month

    • Yes, I’ve added one. You do it after sign up through the app, extra $5 a month and cancel anytime.

      • What if you cancel yr original plan. Would the $5 plan be void as well?

        • Number sharing has to always be linked to a plan, it’s not a separate eSIM.

          • @Fancydancer: You can't request a new number to use on the Apple Watch all on it's own?

            • +1

@nightelves: That's not how Apple Watch works, it piggy backs from the phone plan and can only be done in Oz through Telstra, Voda, Optus afaik. JB is the only other option as they are pretty much just lipstick on a Telstra pig.

              • @Fancydancer: It actually is how Apple watch works in the US. Just Australia and its silly rules prevent you from doing it

                • @John: How come samsung galaxy watches can just use any esim at all?

                  • @xsacha: I don’t have Samsung watch so I don’t exactly know. But looking at Boost page it doesn’t say that it supports it. But maybe there’s a hack for it..

In store signing up right now, will report back later

    • +1

Deal said tmr babie, let’s us know if you can

      • +1

No babe, the deal expires tomorrow~~

    • +4

Update, got the $1200 giftcard. Now i am cancelling the plan via JB mobile chat and they note that i will need to repay $766.59 for the gift card.

Next step is to get on Telstra Chat to get the first month fee ($99) back.

      • are u able to cancel the plan in store with a rep instead of using JB mobile chat?

      • I guess, but would be pretty awkward if you just got the plan and cancel it straight away through the same salesperson

        • +1

Believe it or not, the JB HI FI salesperson advised us to do that and he also mentioned ozbargain aswell

      • Is the JB Mobile Chat just through the JB Hifi website and clicking the help?

or via the Jb mobile App?

        • JB mobile App

          • @Section2: Thanks, I cancelled the plan through JB Mobile App no problems.

I tried asking for the refund of $99 as well. They said its still pending status and to ask again after 3 business days as it might take that long for the first months payment to no longer show pending.

Not sure if you got the same message?

      • What happens to the number if you cancel right away? Do you have to find another plan first?

        • I opened a new number, so no attachment with it

          • @Section2: Oh I thought people kept their numbers for these deals, silly me.

    • +3

Final update, spoke to Telstra Rep via online chat and they will process the refund of $99 for me when the initial payment of $99 has moved from pending status

      • So does that mean the profit is now $433.41

        • yep, i would say so

      • Did you terminate the plan immediately to get the refund $99?

        • Within 2 hours

      • Hi @Section2 thanks for your step by step process, just for this particular step I want to ask where did you contact a Telstra Rep from? Is it the exact same conversation via the JB app?
I ask because the person helping me cancel preemptively told me before helping me cancel the plan this:

“Successfully authenticated! Upon checking here I can see that your 3 mobile services was under to JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront Plan Premium with $99 per month. Once we cancel this you need to pay the early termination charge for $766.59 each mobile service.

Also, whether you use the service or not, refund is not possible. Because in order for you to get a plan, you really have to pay in upfront and that's not refundable. This is being explained in the store and state don the terms and conditions on our website that you can find here:
        https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

Do I contact a different JB rep until they can help me with refunding the $99 or live chat via Telstra?

        • +1

No, you go to Telstra Chat on the Telstra website to get the $99 refunded

          • @Section2: Tyvm for that. I bet that person helping me was asked multiple times already re: refunding $99 lol.

Edit: have contacted Telstra live chat also and confirmed once it’s cleared in 3-5days they will refund the $99 initial payment

            • @noelhoi: I actually went to telstra to ask for the refund and they refunded the wrong account/service as I have my broadband on my telstra account. I got an $85 refund for my payment of my telstra broadband face palm.

I went back to JB Hifi mobile and they were the ones who said they can refund the $99 and I will need to wait until it has moved from Pending to confirmed before they can refund it.

I could be wrong but I feel like JB Hifi mobile goes to a Telstra customer service person anyway? so its no difference on which platform you go to for the $99 refund.

  • Is trading in Iphone 12 for $270 credit good deal?

Trading in a phone is only worthwhile if there is a bonus.
