  • To the uninitiated, does this replace polish? As in I would wash my car like normal, dry it and then spray this stuff on and apply with a cloth?

    • +14

Well, no, polishing is the action that slightly sands down your clear coat for an even finish removing tiny scratches and swirls in the process.
Waxing would be the action that applies a layer of hydrophobic property and gloss and sometimes a bit of protection for your clear coat.
But yes, you would wash your car, optionally decontaminate it and when dry it and spray this stuff on and apply with cloth.

I did two coats and still have half a bottle left. You only use two or three sprays per panel.

        • Holy crap I have half a bottle left and have washed about 20 cars! :)

Personally I find less is more with this stuff. Big fan of it over paste-based waxing. It's much quicker and yields basically the same result for me.

      • +4

ahhh not true, I have a seven seater SUV and I have done the whole car 3 times & there is probably enough left for a 4th application

Awesome product, you dont need much, 2-3 sprays per panel….comes up like magic.
(aslong as your paintwork is in good condition and clean!……otherwise just polish it!!)

      It replaces wax.

It's actually really good, but it takes a bit of effort.

You need to do proper prep before applying this. If you have residual wax or any other non-ceramic coating, it won't properly bond to the clear coat, and you'll just be wasting your time. I did a full clay treatment of my car before applying it. You really need to get the car back to its clear coat.

Then you need to follow the instructions carefully. You don't need much. You just need one spray for a small panel, three sprays for the largest panels. Spread it all over evenly with a microfibre cloth or applicator, wait a few minutes for it to set (very temperature-dependent, on a hot day it's set in a minute or two, on a cool day it could take 5 mins), then buff it off until it's entirely smooth with a different microfibre cloth.

Buffing off all excess coating is critical. Any left behind will form a haze that becomes much harder to remove once fully set.

My routine is to alternate between spraying and buffing while I go around the car. While one panel is setting, the previous one is being buffed.

The directions say it's fine on windows, but I found it's more hassle than it's worth there. It's a pain to buff it off evenly, and the result if done perfectly is just a glazing over your glazing. I just keep it off the windows and clean up any over-spray on the glass as I do adjacent panels.

The above instructions sound more complex than it really is. The hard bit is really just prepping the car. Spraying and buffing is done in 30-45 minutes, and it should provide a protective coating that lasts months. There's also a ceramic "wet wax" that you can use to top it up after washing, which may extend the time between coats even further.

Also, unlike wax, it's fine on plastic trim… provided you buff it off as you would on paint.

      • I used the whole bottle on my car it did nothing and washed away in the first rain

        • Didn't you read the instructions?

      • For the glass I find just using the microfibre you've used and is a bit damp already, is enough i.e. no spray required on glass.

  • I guess this might also work to protect the glass in shower screens, instead of the pricey “treatments”.

I wonder how long it would last doing that?

    • It smells very sweet so not recommended if you are not a fan of it…

  • Maybe I do it wrong. But it does not seem to last very long, maybe a couple of weeks if not days from my experience.
I also tried it on my basin taps and it can only last 3 days .

    • +2

Might need better prep work mate, my coat usually lasts 3 months or so and I drive maybe 90mins daily parked outside. Also washing your car more regularly helps alot.

  • +12

Most people who rate this poorly, don't do prep work and waste their own time/money. You can't just not wash your car for 6 months, give it a wash with a sponge and some armour all wash and wax then apply this product. You need to decontaminate the paint, I usually do it with a clay bar but there are other options. Then rinse with plain water, then apply this product. Works great then and lasts me over 6 months easily (car is garaged and washed every other weekend).

    • this….100% correct.

    • So does the coating remain even after you wash your car?

      • It's best to use a pH-neutral wash (and not a wash and wax, which will make future coats harder). A pH-neutral wash won't affect the ceramic sealant.

If you want to be safe, you could apply a spray or two per panel of the top-up "wet wax" after washing. It also works as a drying agent.

    • Agree. I do a very light coat after each wash, and find it makes the next wash step next time round MUCH quicker. Less crap has clung to the paint.

Holy moly this stuff is $57.99 at not so super cheap

    • +1

Supercheap and Repco have gone through insane inflation in the past 2 years. I've started buying professional level products (Carpro etc.) from online distributors as it's actually cheaper than these consumer products.

      • Samesies. I enjoyed supporting Bowdens, and they're great for ph neutral products, but I need something harder hitting and longer lasting these days.

        • Yeah Bowdens is alright, I still use their Boss Gloss and Afterglow. But for shampoo, toppers and wheel cleaners I've switched to Carpro/Nv.

        • The Bead Machine scored well compared to other consumer products:

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joAfkQ53YPc

  • If you spray it on a pane of glass/your windscreen and let dry it looks like bees wax or even an old fashioned light grease or even a wood glue Or maybe a combination of all three and is near impossible to get off .
    Hope that helps?

    • Yeah, they advertise you can use it everywhere, but it's really not great for windows.

    Got 2 thanks OP

Was always keen to try this as it popped up here. Thus far been using Autoglym rapid ceramic so will be interesting how it compares.

    • +1

ill be interested to hear the results.

Never tried the AutoGlym one….big fan of their stuff

I have tried this product though and super happy with it.

  • Any tips on how to apply it? Or any helpful video tutorials.
I use Armour Wash and Wax to clean my car monthly. Should I apply this coating on top of it after cleaning?"

    • +2

Yep, there are heaps on Youtube.
Wash, dry, apply (two microfibre cloths), apply once more after 24 hours.

    • +1

Yes, this will work like magic.

Clean your car first, then apply.

It really is pretty straight forward. 2-3 sprays per panel, wipe over the panel, move on to the next panel.
Wait a few mins for the whole lot to dry then lightly buff off.

      Easy…

Lasts 6 months…(but to be fair my car is garaged every night, eg…not outside in the elements)

  • silly question i have one panel at the rear, that doesnt have paint protection, could i use this as a replacement, paint protection is a NXTZEN coating?

    • +1

Not a silly question. Yes this will be a replacement. Paint protection (ceramic coating) is effectively a long-term sealant/wax. This is a short-term sealant that will last 1/3/6/9 months depending on conditions.

  • +1

So if I apply this product 2-3 times a year, should it be good enough as the ceramic coating done in a shop?

    • it will never be as good as an actual ceramic coating, but for being a lot cheaper and easier to apply and diy-able, its super good.

    • Yes - unless you are in the top 1% of the car obsessed population, you won't notice a drastic difference between this and a ceramic coating. A proper ceramic coating will last longer if regularly maintained - this is a short-term solution that I'd argue is better for those that only wash their car once a quarter as it can be easily reapplied. A ceramic coating, if not maintained, will fail far earlier than it's advertised life.

  • I can also vouch for this as a first time user.

After a cut and polish (painful but necessary), apply it sparingly and it’ll create a silky smooth finish where you can watch those water droplets slip away every time.

Applied a single coat 2 months ago and car has stayed cleaner for longer. Tried the back window as well and less dust tends to accumulate on it.

    Love this stuff.

    • If you're going to the effort of cutting and polishing before applying this, I'd just go for a proper ceramic coating like Cquartz UK 3.0 or similar.

  • Surely a silica spray is bad for your lungs? Is it safe to apply, or do you need PPE?

    • +1

      This isn't crystalline silica.

I've not heard of any issues with ceramic coatings. SiO2 comes in many forms, and is used as an anti-caking agent in spices, in cosmetics, in pharmaceuticals tablets, in toothpaste, and in wine and beer.

  • +1

Damn, what a price! still got my second bottle from the last deal

For anyone applying, make sure you wash your car thoroughly in indirect sunlight/heat. Preferrably a cool cloudy day.

Then apply this product sparingly to avoid streaks and white residue.

I find it is particularly difficult to work with when car surface is hot.

For simple and faster application, I recommend Gyeon Wet Coat.

  • Will this work as a top up/treatment spray for my existing ceramic coat or is this too much?

    • Yep for sure.

  • Where is the coupon for the discount?
Sorry amazon n00b, cant see it.

  • Any other stores it's available from, or only Amazon?

    • Could try your luck with a Supercheap price match. I've only had them price match other Aussie retailers before, never Amazon. Generally the person behind the counter does not give a shit.
