I bought this some time ago and use it as my primary at home for both casual gaming and productivity/WFH. A very minor complaint is that it can have a bit of ghosting when moving windows around on the screen, but other than that I have no complaints. Mounted on an NB F100A. Happy with the value-for-money.

    • +2

That's the only complaint I had as well. Only during gaming though. Ended up switching to an IPS which is better but this is still a great monitor for the price.

  • +7

I bought this about 2 years ago and paid 550$ for it.

Use it for office as well as gaming. Its a decent monitor.

  • +6

    1800R for those that care

  • +1

really good monitor, been using it for 2 years now.

Occasionally when i fire up my pc u get screen flickering.

  • +1

Great monitor. Use it for WFH and gaming. Paid $600 and was happy.

  • Can vouch for this after being recommended by one of the Ozbargainer. Paid $485 last month after scrambling for expired coupons lol. This is a good price!

  • I got this 18 months ago, under $300 refurbished with a discount code, looked brand new on arrival

    Great monitor

  • bought originally for gaming but upgraded and ended up using this for our CCTV monitor. It's been running 24/7 for the past 2+ years, no issues.

  • +1

Good for whoever missed out on the Xiaomi deal

  • +1

Shame it's not 1500R, I like the extra curve

  • Bought this some two years ago for 500+ , and switched to an Alienware 38", handing down the S3422DWG to my son, who loves it.
This is well worth the money and personally I prefer a single big monitor over a dual screen.
(I loved how easily this allowed you to switch inputs from the keyboard. The Alienware needs me to press buttons on the monitor.
Only complaint was that it didn't come with a speaker but installed drivers to support an external speaker.)

    • How much was the Alienware?

  • +4

Dell (and Dell ebay) often have decent Black Friday discounts, so consider waiting a few weeks. I picked this up last Black Fri for substantially less.

    • +1

Can I ask how much you paid for? I did a quick search here and the price last November was $473.43..

      • +1

Sure. I paid $313 after using a Dell Student discount code (I think 7% off the ticket price).

There was also an Amex 10% cashback on Dell purchases at the time, so that really sweetened it.

I really have no excuse for not posting it at the time. Soz.

      • +1

Sorry, I have to apologise. I applied $150 of Dell rewards to that purchase, so $313 after the rewards were applied. Price of $463 pretty much matches what you found. Completely forgot about that. I'd checked the invoice but it has no mention of the rewards. I think they are only itemised in the cart.

  • How does this compare to the recent Xiaomi monitor deal that was posted?

  • For home studio production (eg Ableton), is it better to have two monitors or one big one like this?

I currently have a 24" on a mount and was planning to buy a second ~32" flat screen and mount that separately

    • +2

I went from 2x 27" to a single 34" Ultrawide and for me it is a great improvement (WFH + gaming). Other than saving desk space, having 2 separate screens felt disjointed to me, I would use the 2nd screen less then I should simply because it wasn't my main screen. Having a single 34" is roughly 1.5x 27" screens which was the perfect balance for me. There is more than enough real estate to have multiple windows and applications open at the same time. For example I still game in a 2560x1440 16:9 borderless window in the centre of the screen and have desktop space on the left and right of the game for emails / messages / videos etc.

I don't think i would ever go back to having 2 large separate monitors, maybe a small 15" portable on the side if i need to have something displayed on it long term.

    • +1

It's been a very long time since I have dabbled in music production…but I would imagine it would depend on your preferences/workflow, and how you like to set things up.

I'd imagine you want a larger screen for your DAW. Whether that means more wide resolution (for more overview of your tracks) or more tall resolution (to fit in more tracks), is probably personal preference. (FWIW, a 4K screen has more vertical AND more horizontal resolution than this ultrawide, even thought the 34" ultrawide will be a bit wider physically.)

And you might also want a second screen, for plug-ins and the like.

So you probably want as large a screen as you can fit/afford/matches your preferences, as well as a second screen if you want it (to shove plug-ins and stuff).

Given the above, I would say 32" 4K + 24" 1080p is probably going to be better than this 34" by itself. But if 32" 4K is too dense ppi for you (will be much higher ppi than your 24"), you may prefer 34" ultrawide + 24" 1080p.

      • I might have to check out some 4k displays as that was going to be my preference, but even with glasses my vision is far from perfect and I already struggle reading Ableton text in 1080p on the 24"

        • +2

Yeah, coincidentally, I previously was running dual monitors with the exact two types of monitors you are considering: a 34" ultrawide + 32" 4K (with 100% scaling / no scaling). The text on the 4K was certainly a lot smaller, and I found the 34" easier on the eyes to read. I used the ultrawide as my main monitor in front of me, with the 32" off to the side - but I actually had the 32" pulled in closer to me, not at the same distance as the ultrawide, to make it easier to read (due to the smaller text).

I wouldnt say I prefered either one to the other, though - I liked them both for different uses.

But, I've now replaced the 34" ultrawide with a 40" 5K2K ultrawide (which is basically a 32" 4K stretched wider) - just a "cheapie" (relative to other 40" 5K2K screens, which are crazy expensive!) Kogan one. But I must say - 40" 5K2K is pretty awesome! 😀

Honestly, I think any of the above monitors will be a nice upgrade/complement to your 24". Good luck!

          • @caprimulgus: Thanks for the comprehensive reply. That's very helpful info!

          • @caprimulgus: I was just thinking, perhaps I could go 4k which is best for movies and gaming, but switch to 1080p for the DAW

            • +1

@Pusdi: What you can do is run the 4K at full 4K resolution, but use scaling. 150% scaling is common for 32" 4K, which would give you effective desktop real estate as 2560x1440. Should be easy on the eyes at that scaling.

Most games and video should work fine at 4K, even with display scaling (otherwise you can turn off the scaling when not doing music production).

              • @caprimulgus: Ah yes I thought there must be a way. Think I will go 4k 32". Cheers!

  • It has been a long time for this price. Should I go for this or G3223Q

    • Depends on your usage I guess. The G3223Q would be better for gaming but the S3422DWG is a solid all rounder if you're wfh and casual gaming

  • +1

I've been using this for a few years now, works well as a gaming monitor, watching tv and I work on it 9 hours a day.

  • Does this have power delivery? Enough for a MacBook Pro 13”?

  • +1

Uses this as my single screen for over a year both gaming and WFH, purchased for a bit over 500. Agree with above some minor ghosting (infinitely better than Samsung in same price range which was so garbage I returned it to buy this instead), but incredibly good specs for price even at full price.

Mine had one single stuck warm dead pixel (stuck green) a few months after, Dell support shipped a new monitor out straight away and I just returned mine in same box. Very happy with the screen and after sales support, definitely recommend if looking for a low/mid range ultra wide.

  • I have two of these side by side they look great however one flickers and one does not

I wonder if anyone can tell me how to upgrade the firmware

    • is one on display port (not flickering) and the other hdmi?

      • No both dp. Both identical, varying formware
Not sure if it's a flickering or dimming

To update the firmware on a Dell S3422DWG monitor, you can do the following:
Download the firmware package to your computer
Connect the monitor to your computer using a USB upstream cable
          Double-click the downloaded file
Follow the on-screen instructions in the Firmware Update utility
The update process can take around 10 minutes. It's important not to disconnect or turn off the monitor or computer during the update, as this can damage the monitor. You should also read the Firmware Update Instructions or Readme file in the firmware package before updating.
Keeping your monitor updated with the latest firmware can help improve display performance and resolve any known issues. One firmware update for the S3422DWG monitor fixes intermittent screen corruption and image degradation during heavy graphical loads.

          • @jimmy c: of course my last chat with dell support was in NOV 23, and they werent able to provide a solution for updating my firmware. great timing.

Thanks for your help, updating now as we speak. hopefully the flicker is gone. fyi, flcikering issue was fw M3C103. M3C102 is other monitor, not flickering

  • Bought this on a deal a few years ago. If you get this monitor there are specific settings that will make it look so much better. It also does not perform well under 60fps. I used a guide similar to this one

  • Any comments / experiences on this from Kogan with 180hz refresh rate in comparison for $409?

I bought MAG 342CQR E2 recently and considering returning it

Text just not very sharp - and I haven't been able to calibrate it.
For VESA, it only supports 75x75, you will need an adaptor if you are after 100x100

      • Appreciate the response, cheers.

      • What was the ghosting/black smearing on it like?

  • Who used this monitor and can vote for it please:

  • Hey all
I have this monitor and like it (Dell S3422DWG - 34)
Now looking for another monitor as my 2nd monitor, probably a 27 or 32 to run with it.
My secondary crap monitor flickers for 10 minutes while warming up and is about to die.
Looking for suggestions for a similar price (or lower price monitor).
Would like it for music production, work and some gaming as apex legends gets stretched on the dell.

Got a 4090 but only one display port out on that along with the 2 hdmi from memory. (at work at the moment)
Anyone got any suggestions ideas or deals I could or should look at…
I was considering a 2nd Dell S3422DWG but the stretching on some games in this aspect ratio (and smaller height) makes me think I should get a standard 27 or 32 inch.

Any obvious choices i might consider???

    • If you want another VA you could try the Dell S2722DGM or Gigabyte M32UC. If you want IPS with better motion handling (less black smearing) for games and better viewing angles (but less contrast) then a Dell G2724D or a G3223Q. Both have really good sRGB preset modes for colour accuracy as well.

There are very few monitors that use newer HVA panels as well which should have less black smearing and higher contrast, most of which aren't available here. There's a KTC H27S17 available on Amazon or an AOC CQ27G4 on PB Tech, but neither have been reviewed yet.

I had this monitor & loved it… Thought I'd get another two & do a Tie-Fighter layout… Checked & on DELL website states the monitor can be inverted but when two new ones arrived this, set them up & this monitor cannot be inverted…

Rang DELL & at first they said it could be, then after more checks said it couldn't, so new monitors returned… Which was a shame as I really liked it for a WFH setup & casual gaming…

    • +1

Probably not a big loss… The empire never lets me WFH!

    • +1

When you say inverting, you mean rotation (to portrait)?

I don't think rotation would be very common on any ultrawide. It's just not going to be a popular way people use these monitors - and anyone who is doing it is probably putting it on an arm anyway.

Monitor arms would be the way to go, if you still want to do this setup.

As someone who has actually done that, rotating an ultrawide like this to portrait…it's pretty wacky, lol. I didn't keep it like that for long! :)

      I would suggest 2x 27" 2560x1440 (to match ppi) or 2x 32" 4K (for more res), personally.

      • Yes change to Portrait … Maybe not common but I liked the look until I went into settings & it wouldn't let me change it :-(

        • +1

Oh wait, you mean you could rotate them physically, but not electronically? You should have been able to do that within windows!

The setting was blocked out, or there just wasnt any setting at all? There should have been!

That's really strange…that setting shouldnt matter what the monitor is. It's a software thing!

          • @caprimulgus: Yes I had them setup in the Tie Fighter Mode but there is no way in settings to change the screen layout… As I said I checked the website but the information is confusing but stated that it could be done… Then contacted Dell themselves & was at first told it could be done then after about 5 minutes they informed me that it actually cannot be done … I would have thought with technology these days it would have been easy

How's this compared to the PRISM+ monitors? Looking at the XQ340 Pro -https://prismplus.com.au/collections/monitors/products/prism-xq340-pro

  • Dinners back on the menu boyz!!

    • haha, have you been um'ing and ah'ing about this one as well?
By the way, code still works and price is still the same.

Still hesitating… will wait for Black Friday

      • Downgraded from this one a while back for a smaller monitor, regretted it. Bought for like $600+

  • +1

Code also works for the S3423DWC if you're after USB-C and the KVM.

Brings it down from $479.60 to $431.64.

  • How is this compared to the Samsung S65VC? In Samsung shop I can trade in my 23inch 1080 lenovo to get $200 off, making it cheaper.

  • Can anyone comment on using a wide monitor for WFH - writing code specifically? Current setup is a 24" FHD and 27" QHD side by side with the 27" being my primary screen and both are setup horizontally. The latter's screen is now broken so looking to change things up.

    • +1

I cant comment on writing code specifically - but this 34" ultrawide will be pretty much just like a stretched out version of your 27". Like 1.5x wider?

If you like to splitscreen your 27", the 34" will give you more comfortable (wider) splitscreen, or let you split into 3 screens comfortably.

I used 34" ultrawide with portrait 24" to the side (was on an arm, which I rotated between landscape and portrait, but used mostly portrait), and it was great.

  • +3

For those who are interested in this monitor, the current price of $429 together with this coupon will bring it down to $386. I bought around this time last year at $473.
