Shokz Openrun Pro 2 Bone Conduction Sports Headphones - Black $259 or 44660 PTS + $10 Delivery @ Qantas Marketplace

230

RRP $319 (18% off)

Alot of really positive reviews noting it's improvement over the previous gen.

The OpenRun Pro 2 rewrites the rules of open-ear audio. Superpowered by DualPitchTM, this technology is about a perfect duet between a bone conduction and air conduction speaker, of which the former handles mids and highs with total precision, while the latter releases controlled, subterranean bass. The result is an unparalleled listening experience that's as clear as it is powerful.

They don't seem to have the Pro 2 mini unfortunately.

    • +4

Yep, I've got a medium/large helmet size and the mini was the best fit when I tested them at the Sydney Marathon Expo.
I'm hoping for another Black Friday 30% off sale on the Shokz website to get the mini.

    • Damn. I have had two of the normal sized ones and was planning to get the mini version so I could more comfortably lie down in bed for this one.
For reference, JB Hi-Fi recently started stocking this but is not yet on their website. Maybe we can price match as well from there.

  • Can you wear these while swimming?
Probably not , it’s only water resistant

    • +1

I would say no. USB-C charging has replaced the external-contact system of the previous version. Plus, Bluetooth only - so unlike the Swim version (which has mp3 playback), unless you're carrying your phone while swimming not going to be very useful.

      • +2

Put your phone at the midway point of a 50m pool and I think the connection would stick.

    • +1

      no: Waterproof rate: IP55 sweat-resistant.

My aeropex are IP68, I wear them in the shower.

    • They have a different version for swimming called OpenSwim / OpenSwim Pro. I haven't tried them or looked at reviews, I'm assuming they are 100% bone conduction as opposed to the OpenRun series using a mix of both traditional speaker and bone conduction. The sound quality and range are probably significantly worse for the OpenSwim series, but given how boring swim training is its worth a look.

      • I have a pair of the older model, I mostly just listen to audiobooks when swimming and the sound is actually quite good for what it is. They work best with earplugs in though.

    • +1

      Bluetooth doesn't transmit through water.

    • No. For full the swimming experience you need the Open Swim Pro version which has the combo of BT plus an inbuilt storage for music to play. This is because BT does not transmit under water.
From past experience, wearing normal Shokz on TOP of the water is ok but NEVER duck your head under the water. I find that even a light splash is not good as quite often when I try charging it after it will give the warning buzz of water near the charging ports and refuse to charge until it is dry.
In general my recommendation is if you plan to do water sports, get the Open swim pros.

    • bought some cheap ones that are waterproof, used them while swimming

good more music but not so great for audio books

these are the ones i bought, probably cheaper ones/better deal these days

    • I got the non-pro version that has a higher waterproof rating and use it for laps in an indoor pool about thats about 20m long. Works fine over bluetooth for over an hour. Need ear plugs though to avoid outside noise

Sitting here wearing my Shokz Openrun Pro 1 which I bought for indoor cycling. But they're conveneint to use for much more. Reasons:

    • Your ear is completely open so you can hear everything while wearing them, e.g. kids, colleagues, shop staff, sounds that warn of danger.
    • They're a one-piece, sturdy, lightweight item. No losing an earbud, no breaking something.
    • They're waterproof and if you do get water in betweeen you and the sound, all you need is to whack them against the wall or table or something, and the water clears.
    • The battery life is majestic. A commute, a working day and a commute home, and then you might need to charge.
    • The sound is adequate for podcasts, working, and workout music. It's not musical, it's not noise-cancelling isolation, it just gets the job done.
    • The only problem I have is that I can't get them to work with Microsoft Teams. They just don't work there.
    • +1

The issue I had with teams was the annoying mute beeping.
Solved this by using the disabling the 'Sync device buttons' setting in Teams.
The just use the mute button on teams rather than the Shokz buttons.

The other issue you might have is in Teams some devices you need to choose the 'headset' option from teams settings. It might default to the 'headphones stereo' option for the device which doesn't work on some devices or meetings.

    • Do they show up under Audio Settings on Teams?

    • I don't have an issue with it working with teams.

I've got mine connected to my iPad, google pixel 9 pro fold most of the time and no problems.

Only one that I experienced today was that after a set time (on a teams presentation (not meeting), the shokz would go silent and the only way to get sound again is to rejoin the meeting. Annoying.

      • The beeping issue only affects Teams on Windows, so you’ll be fine.

    • I've used my Aeropex (a model that is a few generations old) on Microsoft Teams once and the vibrations caused by deeper voices actually tickle, so I don't use them on Teams!

Definitely an improvement on the v1. How do I know ? Bought a pair for $50 more at 99bikes last week, FML.

  • +4

just pm-ed for an additional 5% off at 99bikes

    • Did they give it to you?

      • +1

yes, final price 255.56, not sure why it's not 246.05.

edit 259+10=269*0.95=255.55, they've included delivery cost in it.

        • I managed to get it without the Delivery.

Just showed them the $259. Final Price: $251 ish

    • Assuming you're asking 99bikes to sell it for 259?

    • If you sign up for membership can you use the $25 voucher for a pricematch?

      • i assume not since you can only put in 1 code at a time, the pricematch is a code given to you

I've had my pair for 2 weeks. They are a major upgrade on V1.

  • Can anyone comment on how these compare to the older aeropex model? Trying to justify a shiny update ;)

    • +1

These kill the older model in terms of sound quality. I didn't think bone conduction headphones could sound so good. And the battery seems to last forever.

      • Can people beside you hear them?

Also i ride alot with wind noise, do you lose clarity of the open speaker part?

        • I read a review that said the sound leakage was bad on these V2 ones. Not surprising seeing as they now use a combination of bone and air conduction. It was enough to stop me from getting a pair, as I would want to use them in the office.

          • @TawdryPhat: I figured, since i use mine predominately for mountain biking i think I'm better off with the V1

        • +1

My daughter could hear music coming from them but the volume was up pretty loud and there was no other sound in the room.

  • V1 was fantastic for running, only issue was the awful proprietary charging cable. Nice to see V2 can be charged with USB-C!

  • am I the only one that was irrationally angry at Qantas's shitty website? Loading seems to take ages and why the hell can I not just input the amount of points I want to use? Why do I need to use a slider to dictate the amount omg

  • Keen to try the new ones but my aeropex just keep on going year after year - use them in the office, around the house and on the bike every single day
