[QLD] Upsize Your Recycling Bin for Free @ Brisbane City Council

540

It has been close to three years since the last post, so I thought this would be useful information for those who aren't aware.

By recycling cardboard, glass, firm plastics and metal, it can be easy to have a full recycling bin each fortnight. You can swap to a larger recycling bin to make recycling easier for your home.

Brisbane City Council has waived the $30 establishment fee when you order a larger recycling bin to replace your existing 240-litre recycling bin.

Tenants, owner-occupiers and property investors are all eligible to order a larger recycling bin.

If you have previously ordered a larger recycling bin, you are not able to order a second larger recycling bin for your home.

    • +4

Its not taller but its fatter. I think an extra 120L?

    • Mine is soo big, I just can't describe in words how big it is. If you can order a big one for free you should.

      • +1

        Oh yeah sounds thicc af

    • It says they are 1100 millimetres high, 680 millimetres wide and 870 millimetres deep.

          Different pig, same trough

  • +2

isnt there a higher charge for collection with a bigger bin?

    • +2

      Not usualy for recycled waste.

    • I am curious to know too

    • -4

Yes no such thing as a free lunch from anyone, councils are not your friend.

    • As far as I know, there is no extra charge for bigger recycling bin. It is to encourage more recycling ;)

  • +4

Please note not all councils accept used pizza boxes, due to all the oil, and leftovers.

    • ?

      • +2

In the recycle bin, despite being cardboard.

      • ?

    • -1

Pizza boxes aren't meant to go in the recycle bin.

      • But they all say recyclable, im confused

Depends on the council, when I lived in Vic, greasy pizza boxes went into FOGO

        • +1

          when I lived in Vic

          My condolences

@montorola: Melbourne is the true ozbargainer city. Sure, some places might have better weather, beaches, culture, roads, governments, etc, but you know what Melbourne has?

Highest levels of WFH with Sydney wages and Adelaide housing prices, and the most Amazon warehouses (well, once their new one comes online next year). What else does a person who never leaves the house need?

  • +5

I would be more interested if they offer free upgrade of the green bin.

    • +1

      100% I need this too!

    • +1

I raised this with my local councillor and was told that it is more or less not going to happen, which is unfortunate to say the least.

I was a big fan of the green bin compost trial too but that has been discontinued and does not appear to be going any further! :(

  • Do it now before the poor decision of electing the garbage lnp in ruins this

  • +2

This is available from Logan Council (QLD) also

  • +1

You can upgrade on the Gold Coast but it is a $23 fee.

  • -1

Need upgrade for the General Bin

    • +2

Need to downgrade how much rubbish you generate

  • Do you have to pay more rates because you upgrade?

    • Not for the recycling bin

  • +2

Mines 360lts up from the 240lt. There was no cost but there is a small ongoing cost on your rates.

    • An increase in rates from your smaller recycling?

    • +1

Oh what? Didn't know this… Could someone please confirm

      • You should be able to google the bin fees. Morton has a higher rate charge for a 360L bin. Hard to justify I reckon as same effort to collect. And the deposit scheme recycling is a windfall and the paper/cardboard is sold. Bigger bin, same effort more profit.

    • Is this for BCC?

  • -1

Given that 6.7% of total household waste (Including recyclable waste) is recycled it’s basically just another bin

  • The ordering page isn't loading for me, working for anyone else?

    • it works for me this morning.
