** update 30mins after ordering they sent an email saying my order is delayed and estimated to be delivered within 1 month.. C'mon Gerryyy. **

I have been looking for the 85" version of this TV to be delivered to 'regional' areas (I don't own a delivery van) since all the box damaged deals wouldn't ship to me and noticed Uncle Gerry is happy to do it! He's even throwing in some gift cards, bringing the price very close to the recent 'seconds' and 'box damaged' deals. Delivery is $59 for me.

  • Do they immediately provide you with the 10% Back in Gift Card?

    • Maybe in-store? Nothing electronic in my emails yet.

    • The customer support said the gift card would be sent to your email when the order is completed and you have received the TV.

  • How does the Sony stack up againts the c855?

    • +1

      Get a c855

I have a c855. It’s awesome. But wifi does disconnect on power on sometimes (and you need to restart it). Some content, specially 4k Dolby vision, has some micro stuttering most people wouldn’t notice, but I do. Sony supposedly has better motion features but the SW is worse. At this price I think would get the Sony, but reality is you would be happy with both, in my opinion

    • The C855 is better in every way in regards to its hardware. It's brighter, has more dimming zones, has better contrast, colour and blooming control but the software experience and processing is better on the Sony. TCL's is a bit lacking. I'd personally still go with the TCL though.

    • I have seen this in store. I have the 85C855 and very happy. Don't have wifi issues, or at least very rarely

  • This or TCL C855?

    • Going through the same debate

    • C855

      • I've always had Sony TV's apart from one Hisense (which was returned for a Sony) and they have always been spot on. Keen to hear why I should go for the TCL over the Sony, thanks.

        • +2

The x90l is a generation behind, not even mini led. If it was the Bravia 7 at this price, i would go for that. Not the x90l tho, that should be $500 cheaper than the tcl

          • @bigbaddbaz: Thanks mate. Will probably just wait for the Bravia 7 to be cheaper, not in a super hurry for a new TV

            • @dreamstation: I was in same boat, but B7 was still 1.5k more than the TCL on sale. If the B7 was only $500 more i would have gone for it. See how the black friday sales go

            • @dreamstation: Sony will deliver the 75 for $3236.

        • TCL is coming on in leaps and bounds. I have the 85C855 and it's great. I don't watch much FTA though, mostly 4k streaming

  • Nice, I'm probably going to try to wait for sale on the Frame TVs - the matt screen being the main reason for the best way to view the TV in a bright room. If it wasn't for that the X90L would be my pick!

    • The Frame is on sale at JB Hi-Fi + 20% off for Perks member at the moment

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-85-the-frame-qled…

      • Yes, waiting for it to drop lower! maybe on Black Friday :|

    • HN Same deal but you get a giftcard. Crazy not to shop there.

      • +2

Except HN owner is a scum bag.

JB, better return policy too, HN have always fought it for me when I used to occasionally shop there, pre COVID.

        • -1

HN are a franchise lol they are so much better. So locals own them. They all have the same returns policy HN have never made a claim hard for me. Their staff always know soooo much more.

      • +2

It's better off gets some TCN gift cards and buy it from JB Hi-Fi.

  • TCL C855 or this one ? I am looking for 85+ inch. Can anyone advise ?

  • +2

Caution, I have, and have read of others having their orders cancelled after being told an item is delayed from Harvey Norman. Yes, they do obviously refund, but in my case it was over a month after I had placed the order, and I had also paid for it with a discounted e-gift card, so was refunded with another gift card. Which was of no use to me as the item wasn't available.

    • -3

Happens evereywhere. Items sale out when its a really good deal. I just wait its no problem.

    • They are hardly going to refund cash. Otherwise the could be a loop hole for money laundering

  • I want an 85" for our longue room TV. It's a well-lit room so I don't think I want OLED. Mostly for watching sports and PS5. Is this a good option?

    • Get the c855 instead, will be brighter

      • thanks, i'll take a look

    • I got the x90l 85 today for this exact scenario

      • let me know how it goes :D

    • I've done a bit of laptop and switch gaming in the C855 and it excels at it

    • Sports over FTA I found lacklustre on my 85C855. I imagine 4k sports would be great though. Sports mode has oversaturated colours - better off watching in movie mode.

  • This TV has been good for me. No issues with it. Had for a year. Google TV is handy.

  • Cheap without having to go through ebay.

  • $7996 for the 98" which is a bit meh. Could price match at JB Hifi and apply the 20% off perks coupon to get for around $6300 though.

    • +1

Perks coupon apparently doesnt work with price match

I used this same 10% back in gift cards promotion from Harvey Norman on the 1st of December 2023 that run for that day only to haggle back and forth between Harvey Norman and The Good Guys to secure a 77" Sony A95L QD-OLED TV for $6500 brand new down from the RRP of $9500 (The Good Guys without offering me gift cards were prepared to match Harvey Norman's 10% back in gifts cards price down to what receiving the gift cards from Harvey Norman took it down to). It helped that the guy from Harvey Norman gave me a printed quote for $7250 during Black Friday week last year when every retailer was selling it for $8500 on BF week. It was the perfect time to purchase it, the Sony A95L was only available in Australia for a short time between the end of October 2023 and January 2024 when Sony Australia decided to discontinue the model here, it's still their 2024 flagship OLED/QD-OLED TV model in other countries such as the U.S., both the Bravia 8 WOLED and Bravia 9 Mini LED are inferior to the A95L.

  • Thanks OP grabbed the 85” from HN locally as they had stock. Will be delivered on Monday

  • I have the previous X90k, and I don't love it. Android, while convenient, is not as smooth as other options. Mine feels laggy already, laggier than my 7 year old cheap Samsung. It also requires semi frequent reboots. Mine also completely shit itself at one point but was fully repaired under warranty.

  • I went to JB & have compared these two, C855 has much better picture quality than x90L. No brainer, X90L was a mid tier tv last year & C855 is near top end from TCL. Yes, TCL may not be as refined but if you remove the brand names & watch same video on both the tvs then 100% of the times you would pick TCL. TCL was closer to cheap OLEDs & other top end lcd tvs.

  • Just bought the 75”. Noticed all of the 10% promotions have disappeared from the page even though I snuck in before midnight. Hope they don’t make it difficult to receive them.

  • Got Sony Australia to price match HN deal plus 10% off (for the gift card). 85' Sony X90L for $2,700 is a really good price

  • So I got my TV delivered today, yay! Unboxed it, turned it on and there are big cracks up the middle, boo!

Off to the complaints department I go :/

The 10% gift cards were issued electronically once the TV was delivered (as mentioned above by erik999), if any were wondering how those things went.
