    Good move by Qantas.

Grab those Virgin travelers ticked off by VA FF changes to tempt them across by accelerating their progress.

Then disappoint them some more when they got to Qantas hahah

    • +5

Yeah I noticed how the velocity changes were all worse.

I fly every two weeks for work, wherever I get a Qantas flight, it’s delayed by at least half hour.

They have their AGM today, voting again on exec remuneration package, if it gets voted down again by the shareholders, they’ll spill the board.

    • +3

Yeah only to be disappointed with last minute flight cancellations. Seriously have not experienced as frequent cancellation with any other airline than with Qantas. Especially within the last year.

    • Been flying for years with VA, and for years I just realised how much I've been missing when I recently converted.

is there a direct link online? I can't seem to see it on my app..

  • Will the usual February/March promo still run do you think?!?

    • maybe

    • Yeah this offer came way early than expected

    • It's pretty likely there'll be some sort of promo then. After summer holidays leisure bookings are at their lowest, so the promo is timed then to boost forward bookings.

  • Just booked a flight earlier today, any way around this to get the status/points?

    • +4

      cancel and rebook

    • Cancel free within 24 hrs I think

      • +1

        for flights departing aus

  • I have $450 travel credit with AMEX, will this stack after I've activated the offer but I book through AMEX's portal?

  • Do I have to book direct?

  • Thanks registered :)

Boo! i booked flights to spain a few weeks ago

    • +1

I’ve been in that position in the past, I just rang them and told them that I didn’t want to miss out on the promo. They let me cancel and rebook on the phone so I got my double status.
If you can be bothered sitting on the phone with them that is.

      • Were you charged $99 fee for cancellation?

        • I don't remember having to pay, it was a while ago though.

      • Keen to know if this works

      • Good to hear. I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

        • No dice. They were pricks about it.

Anyone have experience of you get the double status if you book Classic Rewards/Plus AND have Points Club etc?

    • +4

Yes you get double status on rewards flights too

      • Excellent, thanks for confirming!

        • Also yes plenty of times. Beware the date of your flights and your PC/+ status year.

          • @xwx: Yea I checked and you need to be a member when the actual flight takes places so if it lapses then no soup for you!

  • Hope the Feb March promo comes around again for 2025, this offer wasn't expected.

  • oh no, i just booked last week.. :(

This also works for other passengers I am booking for right? So long as they also activate on their end before I make the booking?

  • nice

Registered! Booked my status run SYD-MEL-AKL-MEL-SYD for 2.2k which net me 500 status credit + 100 status credit rollover from PC+. Staying Gold for another year!

    • +5

Spending 2k to stay Gold? Any reason why you wouldn't just pay for lounge visits (like a lounge membership) and extra bags which would be cheaper?

      • +3

More like I want that priority boarding plus Oneworld partner travel to Japan or US. More often I don't use QF, but more on their partners so lounge membership don't really work. In addition, if I keep using my bonus on this, maybe in 15 years, I can get lifetime gold. 😅

        • +14

2.2k will buy more food and drink at airport cafes that you could possibly consume before your flights.

        • -1

Such a great long term investment.
          I’m on the same boat:)

    • +6

I’d consider a $2k status run to get to platinum but there’s no way gold is worth that. Especially if you already have lounge access on Qantas flights through PC+.

  • +3

And most of the flights won't go on sale now.

  • -1

This is such a long way away

  • if i were to buy a flight now… but need to reschedule it to a different date, would i still be able to get the double status credit?

    • yes you should be able too

  • What's the point when the points themselves have been seriously devalued and can hardly be translated to rewards? "Classic Plus" all the way to August next year.

    • I disagree. Whilst rhey have devalued if you churn enough your still coming out ontop especially if you fly often. Im flying return to LA for 81k points and $300 from melbourne.CC cost me 200 for 90k points.

      • Isn't 81k + $300 economy a terrible deal? A return ticket costs around $2,300, so 81k would only be worth $850. SQ only costs 58k + $115 to fly from Melbourne to London ($3920). 58k for $1,845.

        • Not sure how your math works, there is some next level calculation there.

But all he was trying to tell you was he spent $200 for the card, plus $300 in tax and charges. So return MEL-LAX only costs $500

One can effectively ignore the cost and any devaluation of the points, just focus on churning and you still win.

          • @b0b0: I get that, but this deal is about booking with Qantas to earn bonus points. What I'm trying to say is that QFF points have been so devalued that it takes away the appeal from this offer. And Qantas clearly knows it.

  • My status credits year turns over 1st April, when do status credits expire? Do they get rolled over?

    • they expire when your membership year ends, so march 31 for you.

no, they don't get rolled over unless have points club plus you can roll 100

  • Here is summary of deal from Pointshack

I see only get double with classic reward bookings if PC member.

    • 2x0=0 so if you're not points club you still get double
