Legit Q, why would someone ever choose this over a portable SSD for the same price other than portability?

    • Lifetime warranty?

CZ8x series isn't really that bad. But yes you're right, the size is the only advantage over a proper portable SSD.

    • I tend to use this for boot drive for like truenas or unraid as they don't recommend flash drive anymore. Having a SSD in this form factor over a portable ssd is better without a loose cable hanging around. However I normally get a cheaper 256gb or 512gb model as i don't need big size for the boot drive

At that price you can also buy a 2TB portable SSD that is only slightly larger in size(plus a cable) that will be faster transfer speeds or 1TB at <$130

Price + USB 3.2 kills the deal

    • In reality CZ880 doesn't actually do USB 3.2 speed (Gen 2 as what people usually refer to), unless you count its 5Gbps variation (USB 3.2 Gen 1x1 which technically speaking is a part of USB 3.2 standard).

Even this seems a better choice.

    • This or Silicon Power DS72 is NVMe interface not slow SATA interface with this SanDisk POS usb stick.

    • With devices like these, reliability will be more important than price or speed. The Sandisk Extreme Pro is a very old drive, hence the older interface. Back in the day, it was the reliable choice for fast flash thumb drives before the wide adoption of NVMe drives into USB enclosures of similar sizes. Even when SATA 2.5" SSD's became popular, the Extreme Pro still had a market due to its portability and hot swap capabilities compared to SATA.
