Cheapest price I found it for was $399 on staticice. A decent laptop for what it is.
Whilst its a pentium (spell check on my iPhone kept trying to say penguin) processor, it's 2.3GHz with 2MB cache and sandy bridge architecture.
The copy of Windows 7 HP should be eligible for a Win 8 upgrade for $15 (via Microsoft) if you wanted to get a second license for free, but considering this screen isn't touch, I would avoid throwing any version of 8 on this to ensure you're not disappointed.
I'm impressed its 1600MHz RAM though, not much to help improve speed any more than what it currently is at though.

"The i3 mentioned in the recent Aldi deal is an i3 with 3MB cache and 2.4GHz processor, between each other they're both 2 Thread 2 Core." Actually the i3 is 4 thread 2 core (http://ark.intel.com/products/53438/Intel-Core-i3-2350M-Proc…), and it has better graphics. Besides, the ALDI is a 17" so they're not really comparable.
There have been plenty of other deals in the past for 15.6" i3 laptops for under $400, so they'd be my choice.
